Don't you just love Apple introduction videos? I know I do. It's thanks to one of them that I bought my first MacBook Pro in 2008, and I'm sure it's the main reason many of you do the same.
Thing is the iPhone 13 Pro was a pretty complicated launch because it took quite a few software updates for a lot of these features to reach your phone. Pro Res took a month, you couldn't switch Macro Mode off until December, and the same happened with all the iCloud improvements. Point is, it's become a common practice for this phone to ship incomplete, and even if you'll hear a lot at WWDC, all those improvements won't reach your phone officially until the fall.
I guess the biggest question is if it's really worth for anyone to pay extra and go pro, and after 9 months of using one, I think I have a pretty good idea. I'm Jaime Rivera with Pocketnow and let's dive in.

Am enjoying my 13 Pro. Have no qualms with the cameras, day and night. I do notice the difference between the 120 Hz refresh rate compared to the 13's 60. For me, it was worth the extra $$$.

Pro motion alone is reason enough to get the pro over the regular 13, makes a massive difference in smoothness. Pros are also 25% brighter at 1000 nits vs 800 nits for the regular 13. Also better battery life on the pros.

Apple has really mastered the art of upselling. It's sad how "pro motion" is too aggressive with "downclocking" the refresh rate, so in real life, it feels only as smooth as a 90hz screen found on $200 budget Android phones. But obviously the Apple logo on the back of the phone is priceless for many...

@@alcylon yeah price is a major deciding factor. Best Buy had an amazing deal where they gave me $800 for my iPhone 12, so the 13 pro was only $400 out of pocket. Not cheap, but great for a pro.

The Sierra blue is such a pretty color and I do not care if my sister calls it a hospital gown. I’m down for alpine green and gold if I get pro. Maybe Sierra blue but lately it’s been selling out in my area! But for regular 13 I love the product red, it’s gorgeous.

I love my 13 Pro Max, the refresh rate is insane. I would be fine paying extra for the 120Hz + bigger phone.. A lot of people hate on bigger phones cause they have to use 2 hands… they make a mini for you type of people.

I do agree that the 13 would serve most people fine. I only got the 13 Pro as a way of futureproofing. The additional RAM (6 GB), ProMotion (feels silly spending hundreds and not getting the high refresh rate), and the added versatility in the cameras mean I will keep my phone for at least 4 years.

@@nawarakhatib275 yes there was a notable difference but i got used to it in a matter of time. it honestly feels the same after a couple days. and the space beside the notch is greater than the space beside it on the Xr so i feel like that made up for the smaller footprint.

I just bought a 13pro sierra blue. Very happy with this phone. 120hz and cameras are great. Sometimes i wish i would have bought the max, but the wight and size was a bit much.

Quite pleased with my 13 Pro. I really like the cameras and the battery life is quite good. Yes, it's a bit heavy but I can live with it. The 6.1" screen is just about right though, I think 5.8 would have been perfect. The race to make the best cameras on phones has, IMO, gotten ridiculous. There's only so much you can do with the limited space. The longevity of support is what sets apple apart. Should I choose, this phone will last me for the next 5 years or more. That's pretty sweet.

@@ulalaFrugilega The Pro does quite well in low light as well as almost no light. I'm rather impressed with how far night photo's have progressed on Apple as well as some Android phones. I have a few shots I took while out on a walk at 0330 where there were no streetlights, only starlight. I took some shots of a few big tress and they're pretty good.

Only reason i got the 13 pro was the telephoto, better screen and battery life. In a perfect world, i wish the 13 pro was available in the 13’s deeper blue, but sierra blue is nice too

Coming from Android for like all my life, got the 13 Pro Max. It’s impressive so far, I miss certain features from my Samsung but apps seems to be better optimized for iPhones which is annoying for android users. Either way it’s a good phone for what I need it for.

@@vivek_v Android apps are not optimized for any Android phone specifically but for screen sizes. Where as on iPhones, iOS apps are specifically made to run on different models of iPhones. So yes, iOS apps are much better optimized for their specific devices. Also I really hate Android phones force feeding you bloatware, disgusts me really.

The main reason for me to go Pro is it lasts longer than the normal 13. I always swap phones after 3+ years, and I can be sure with iPhones that the pro model will be pretty smooth experience even then. That can’t be necessarily said for the non-pro model.

I bought a used 13 pro max a month ago in alpine green 256gb for $750. Best deal ever! Oh and it still has a 100% battery health and it only had 12 battery cycles. Oh and it came with Apple Care + Theft and loss which is $279. The guy said he only had it close to 2 months but didn’t like it and decided to go back to Samsung and got an s22 ultra. Battery life is insane! Love this phone.

I take all phones with a grain of salt at the end of the day. The last phone I had was the 12 that I got for free through a T-Mobile trade in and switch deal but then the phone ended up dying recently. I went with the 13 pro mainly because I don't plan on getting another for as long as I can make it. I got the pro so all 3 lenses will give the most versatility throughout time, hopefully more processing will help it last longer, and hopefully a larger battery will help it last a bit more over more time. With applecare, I plan on replacing the battery when it slows, if the screen breaks I've never gotten a whole new device instead of replacing the screen (the last screen I broke was my XS 2 years ago and I replaced the screen myself) but I say everyone should just get what they get for them. Get what you like the most, can afford the most and will be most useful for yourself cuz one great aspect of technology is the versatility and personalisation options

This was my first iPhone and with this purchase I've sealed myself completely into the amazing walled gardens of Apple. It all started with the M1 mac due to its amazing battery life and overall performance. Compact phones are the need of the hours and 13 pro DELIVERS- My one plus 8 pro literally gave me hand fatigue and I've large hands, mind you. Android truly sucks overall- the convenience/freedom/flexibility it offers is rather superficial. Apple may be limited in certain ways but the note worthy features it offers actually make a difference in the quality of your life. It's remarkably reliable overall.

I’m enjoying my iPhone 13 Pro Max 256 GB Pine Green (still have the regular 1Phone 13 Pro 256 GB in white/silver as well). I also carry the Galaxy S 22 Ultra as a spare. I don’t regret switching my primary functions to iPhone. I may also be alone in this, but I’ve recently started using Apple Maps the last few months and I’m honestly surprised that I’m enjoying it more than google maps. Both iOS and Android have their strengths and weaknesses, but for me iOS fits better into my workflow and lifestyle overall.

I sold my 12 Pro Max last year for the Pixel 6 Pro, as I was disappointed with the 12 Pro Max camera. The 6 Pro camera is good, but a buggy phone since the May update, so I'm upgrading to the iPhone 14 Pro Max this September, I miss ios & face unlock, this years Pro Max with the 48mp camera, will hopefully finally catch up with androids offerings. I feel a deeper/greater divide between the standard and pro smartphones would lead to people accusing Apple of paywalling their best features to force you into buying a pro. It almost needs to be same-same but different like vehicle trim levels.

I hope the 14 pro is as good as the 13 pro that Jaime described. I love my iPhone XS and it has been a trooper. I did try the iPhone 13 for a few days and the changes to me were apparent but I wasn’t ready to give up the XS. We will see what the 14 brings this fall :)

I briefly had an s22 ultra & loved it’s fabulous 10x optical zoom & superb 6.8 inch display but it suffered badly from bad call quality so it was back to iPhone for me and switched to 13 pro max. Superb crystal clear call quality, good display (but not in s22 ultra league) and battery life that ls much much better than the S22 ultra. But how I miss the 10x optical zoom. Hopefully iPhone 15 🤞

If the 13 Mini had the same 6 GB of RAM that the Pro models have, I would have upgraded to that over my 12 Pro (yes I know, it seems like it would have been a waste) because it would have made one-handed use much easier for me as I have to shift my right hand around every so often to reach my thumb across the screen from top to bottom. The camera and screen specs I could care less about, but the Mini only getting 4 GB was just a sign for me to stick with my 12 Pro for longevity sake. Larger phones make for great viewing and interactive experiences, but somewhat difficult ease of use, at least for my smallish hands.

Compared to non Apple phones I’ve had I can honestly say this phone uses thermal throttling more than any other piece of tech I’ve ever used. Granted I may have gotten a bad one (wouldn’t be my first experience with a faulty iPhone * iPhone X with an unglued battery*) apple products were ahead of their time in 2007. Now they’ve finally made it to 2018 in features.

Is this for real? 90% of your content isn’t more than 60hz. Video usually streams at 30fps, games unless the graphics are super simple run at 60fps, 30 if the graphics are intense. The only time your screen does 120hz is when you scroll through icons and maybe your Twitter feed? The refresh rate is way low on my priority.

I've had the regular iphones in the past and the 13 pro is the first time I've bumped up to the pro. have had it since launch. I can say that I don't feel it is worth the extra money over the regular models. If I decide to go with iphone again I'll just get the base model and call it a day.

Will it improve photography because a 50 quid second hand pixel 3 produces better daytime shots?

Just because u can't afford it, it doesn't mean u prop ur budget phone against a flagship one. 😂 There is a reason why the iPhone 13 Pro has the best camera and the Pixel doesn't. The Pixel is neat, but inconsistent and unreliable.

@@rcbmulder And daytime shots alone don't make a phone's camera good. If u take only daytime shots, then u are in the minority. Night photography is what makes a phone's camera standout. And the one which most people value these days. A 50 quid Pixel 3's night photos are like flashing a torch on the subject! 😂 Says everything......

@@happyhuman247 the problem with fanboys is they're only restricting themselves. The pixel 3 comparison is totally relevant. However, if you'd prefer something more relevant, compare the pixel 6 pro to the iphone 13 pro/max ,(which still costs over a grand btw) . Daytime AND night time shots are better on the pixel, there is more detail, better HDR and less crushed blacks from the pixel 6 pro. I had both phones so did my own tests rather than accepting everything the adverts claim.

As an S22 Ultra user, I plan on keeping this for a while UNLESS Samsung does something incredible that we don't see coming with the next phones.

@Carl Gunderson I upgraded from the S20 Plus to the S22 Ultra. I noticed quite a bit of difference, especially in terms of speed and a bigger, and brighter display. I'd hang on to your S20 until the S23 comes out. Perhaps it'll be a whole new design with a new chip with a lightning fast processor?

Same here..... I am an S22 Ultra user who almost got an iPhone 13 Pro because of out of this world ADs from Apple. But I am very happy with the Samsung S22U.

@@NetITGeeks My ONLY issue with the S22 Ultra is the battery. I wish it was a tiny bit better, but there's a lot of power in this phone, and I have it on 120 Hz. So it's fine.

6:59 I noticed an error. This video incorrectly stated the iPhone 13 Pro has a 2 megapixel telephoto camera. Actually, all three cameras on the 13 Pro are 12 megapixels.

I've had trouble with my iPhone 13 pro camera and I don't know if its "normal" or not--I'll set up a shot of say a butterfly on a flower, focus, get ready to take the shot ; then it seems it switches lenses and all of a sudden I'm look at something at a completely. different angle and frame. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I reframe again, and it flips again. Meanwhile butterfly has flown away. Is this normal or is something wrong with my phone? My "Notes" also periodically disappear... I have a horrible time taking photos now that I didn't have with my iPhone 10. Thanks for any opinions.

The real reason I won't be able to adapt to anything except for the 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max is the fact that I'm coming from a series of Android phones with native 120hz displays , my MacBook Pro 16 M1 being 120hz and my main gaming rig running multiple 144hz monitors , you literally can't use a 60hz phone screen without getting a headache.

considering I moved from s21 ultra to 13pro, I loved s21 ultra in every way but the processor on it sucked( pocket heater ). i will easily consider switching back to galaxy when processor becomes stable in them. and the only reason I picked pro over 13 is because of that smooth 120hz display, absolute deal breaker for me.

I'm making the jump here from Android also, with the same reasons probably, more or less. I've heard and read a lot of bad reviews about 8 gen1 processor.. and to be honest here, the iPhone 11 pro would be more than enough for me.. but man.. the 120hz and better processor architecture, plus the improved battery life.. all these reasons "forced" me to go all the way up to iPhone 13 pro!!

I am a two phone guy as well. currently I am using an S20 FE and an iphone X. They are fine for my uses, but I am not a mobile reviewer by trade. My next phone will probably be a second hand iphone 12 or 13. But for now I am pretty happy with where I am.

@@vp9926 pretty much. Ios allows teams and Outlook to have their own security protocol, Android asks for overall device control. I also just like to have a device in both ecosystems. My sim plan includes unlimited 5g tethering, so it doesn't really matter

I love my iPhone 13 Pro. Was on Android for 10 years from 2011 to 2021 but having an iPad Air 2 that lasted as long as it did, it sold me on iOS as an operating system due to its longevity and I'm unlikely to go back, especially not now that I also own Airpods Pro and an Apple TV to go alongside it. I went with the Pro more for the 120hz screen than the cameras TBH.

iOS is the reason why I can't fully go to iphone, I'm using Xperia and iPhone now, I like the android better since I use alot of UKposts and Google assistant, they are better on Android but iphone social media is nice .. ..

Just got the pro, great device, and several years of updates still. Ibise apple maps in preference to Google maps. Where I live it's Apple's TomTom based app is a lot better than the directions from Google. And on my android devices, Waze with its community updates is streets ahead of Google's own mapping app (and for public transport wherever I live still no one who can touch City Mapper!)
