I would definitely go with the Apple Vision Pro over this based on what I've heard so far. Odds are that the Amazon one won't have half of the features or the horsepower of this one, plus full integration with other devices. The odds that it will have Apple's amazing 360 capture technology are next to zero, and that makes this well worth the price I'd say alongside the workflow applications here.

I have a Quest 2 with a Home environment that is the Enterprise-D bridge, comfortable space. On any long flight with seat power, it's wonderful way to not feel cramped while enjoying movies on a large floating screen. And it was only $299. Productivity, not so much.

I feel the exact same way. I'm a video editor and being able to edit a timeline anywhere on as big as a screen I want is insane... but will it really be that productive without a mouse and keyboard shortcuts? I guess I could use a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard or my mac paired with it... but idk I feel like I should do more with this than edit or watch movies. Would love to actually replace a quest 3 with this, but doesn't seem like that's the angle.

@@henrymussemann3253 nowhere near it. To be fair, Apple will probably put a lot of effort into making this thing easier to wear. The one I had for a long time was the Oculus Quest and I never got used to it, the Apple one costs 10x as much though. Something resting on your head is just just different to something being strapped onto your face. It has to be kinda tight too. Headphones can move a tiny bit while a VR should not move at all. Also I can't imagine the VR being as light as headphones.

I would definitely use vr/ar for productivity. Games are cool but I'm in the studio 12 hours a day working on A/V. I guess I'm that nobody, but you are wrong. I would definitely buy a different headset for productivity. Just not an Apple one. I'd get a hololens before this one and that's overpriced. My motorcycle, brand new costs less than this headset.

Lots of occupations require wearing something on your head. I’d love to have multiple virtual displays for productivity.

Well, they did cut any sort of controllers out of the tech. Really zero focus on actual VR games here, the only gaming they teased was PlayStation flat screen gaming on a virtual 2d display.

@@chillinJohnny If done right, it’s essentially a personal TV and MacBook in one, along with perhaps other things. In the future, with better manufacturing and therefore hopefully cheaper cost, along with an I’m guessing non pro version that’ll probably be called Apple Vision. All of that, and a smaller form factor that looks more like glasses, and a much better energy storage technology could turn this into a replacement for the iPhone. The first of its kind in roughly 15 years (maybe 20-25 years by then, and that’s probably being optimistic). I was probably 6, close to 7, when the first iPhone came out so I don’t fully remember how long that took to become mainstream (wasn’t really paying full attention lol), but I’m guessing this may take a bit longer, just based on the complexity of the hardware and science and engineering challenges

I cannot sit through a movie with a band around my head. I would rather watch it on my TV. The playback time they said is only 2 hours which again is a barrier for watching a full movie.

@@wintercat2605 1. There already are some "sunglasses" that can record people way more descreetly, and they are much cheaper than this. So I'm not sure why anyone with that intention will go with Apple vision pro. 2. I can see that Apple has made sure that it's difficult to record people without their knowledge, as the outside screen of the device shows a flashing animation to let other people know when they are being recorded. Also, in order to record, you need to press the only button on the device, so if a person wearing this device is pressing that button, people around will know that that person is recording.

1. You can definitely go outside but the problem is that you'll have to carry a battery which will power for only two hours. So if you want to stay outside for longer, you gotta carry multiple batteries :( 2. I'm not sure if you will get the low light advantage, the IR (invisible) lights are supposed to help the detection of your hand gestures and eyes in low light, they have nothing to do with what you see on the screen in low light. Low light performance will be as good as the cameras they use but they have not said anything about it. Though you will get advantages like blocking glare etc.

@Aishwary Shukla thanks for the thoughts...for example when I use my standard galaxy s23 camera at low light it does a tremendous job compared to my own eyes so if this is something on par with that that'd be a huge bonus...the 2 hour battery is kinda a concern but I don't go on long 2 hour night walks...just could be nice walking to a car, finding an uber etc

@Winter Cat not likely as you can still see your surroundings...so I guess as likely as someone stealing my phone or watch..plus the level of security of something like this probably wouldn't be worth it to the thief with apples privacy and security measures.
