going from a vintage hitec lynx 27mhz radio to a flysky gt6 that is my improvment. well something more pricy might be better during a race but that lynx radio got me to 9th in scandinavia cup 1:10ic 200mm as a rookie with at that point old mugen mtx2 that got a broken front drive during practice two days before race day (only rwd car in that race). as i saw it i rather race a broken car and take a last place before doing a dnf.

The flysky gt5 was my first purchased transmitter and I loved it and still think that it's great in comparison to any transmitter feel, response, and features. On the other hand I picked up a (orange) edition DX5C smart transmitter and its been just as good with slightly better range. Both are hundreds cheaper, but gives the same results it comes down to ones thing. What's your preference and how freely do you spend money.

The DX5 actually has a little screw under the wheel to adjust spring tension!!! So you can fix that issue that yall were talking about, I also feel if you dove deep into the dx5 to mess with all the settings ypu could get it to your liking!! I love mine and definitely respect the sanwa radios! Just can't justify that price tag just yet!! 😁😁😁
@DirtSailor5
@DirtSailor5 2 роки тому
The only difference are that the few things that can't easily change: you can add weight but you can't really take it away, the dropped wheel position and back-lit screen. Frame rate, wheel tension, and sensitivity can all that can be changed. If you actually change the settings you might find the 2 have damn near identical functionality. At 16:14 Kenny's avg was better and 19:48 Ryan was all around better with the DX. Just shows that the most expensive isnt always the clear cut best. Peer pressure and the wants are bigger reasons to upgrade over necessity. These guys unscientificly showed improvement with a "lesser" transmitter that wasn't dialed in.

There’s maybe a .1 second per lap difference, it’s very marginal. But if you race at highest level that 0.1 matters. Not sure if it’s worth making an entire video over. Motor analyzers will show you with numbers what the difference is. Reality is you might see 1-3% more power from a $200 motor.

As a racer that last week finally upgraded to a proper Santa m12rs, I should be able to chime in on this. I had a fly sky fsgt3b that I bought 5 years ago. I lipo converted it and at one point, had 9 running models on the remote. I was always made fun of, until other racers realized I was faster with my remote that costs less than a receiver for a high end remote. No, it does not have all the bells and whistles, but it got the job done. To me, the sanwa feels like it has more sensitive inputs. The servos move exactly how your wheel does, versus the fly sky where it “numbs” the inputs. I think the remote is definitely important in high end racing, but if you club race or just want to run on a budget, you don’t need to spend 400 dollars.

I guess it comes down to how far you want to take your race skills...I'm a pipe welder, so from a different perspective I can only achieve my best welds that keep expanding with better gear and greater options to push my limits...not to say I cant achieve greatness with bare minimal basics, but the new gear pushes you to achieve a much higher level and discover out of the box levels never thought possible. Ingenuity isn't a bad thing. That's what made these cars evolve thru ghost ed years.

I would have liked to see you both on the track with the same spectrum radio after you did the test just to see if the competition factor would quicken your lap times but that would me buying to of those test radio's. Thanks for sharing

I have and have used a dx5c for years in my crawlers, and I love it. When I started drifting I bought a Futaba 4pm, and I love it as well. Now, I’m looking at the idea of starting racing for the first time in about 30 years, and this gave me a bit of assurance that I needed. Now I know I’ve already got a decent radio to use if/when I start racing, so thanks for that! I fully expected a big difference in lap times right out of the gate when switching radios. Not because I think the dx5c is an inferior product, but because both of you have a lot of experience with your current setups, and likely have the settings tweaked to perfection. What I think would be an interesting comparison would look something like this: take a box-stock RTR of your choice and run the same comparison. 10 laps with the RTR radio, then 10 laps with the dx5c, then 10 laps with your preferred radio. My personal opinion is that there will be a noticeable improvement from RTR to dx5c, and then a marginal difference between the dx5c and your preferred radio. And that reflects the lifecycle of a novice to a pro racer. As a novice, you’re just out having fun and learning the ins and outs. As an amateur, you make a few upgrades to your vehicle and your skill level. Once you go pro, you search everywhere and try anything looking for that last little bit of speed, that next fraction of a second. Just my 2 cents

I'm a little late, but this a pretty good comparison video. I was using a DX5pro for the last year or so, and won an M17 at the Roar Carpet Nats, so I switched over to that. I didn't feel like the DX5pro was keeping me back, but "feel" is a hard thing to quantify, and feel was the biggest difference in changing radios for me. With the DX5pro, I could turn fast laps, but if there was a crash, I never could definitively tell if it was me or the car. My wife also races, and she doesn't notice anything with the radio, but I'm also only watching her car to tune the car, so she keeps getting quicker. For me, I have to watch my own cars, nobody else is doing it, and with the M17, I have no doubts which car behavior is because of me, and which is because of setup, so overall I've gotten faster. Equal setup, the more expensive radio hasn't made me faster, but eliminating that question mark has made me faster overall. At the end of the day, a radio is only going to make you faster in the right situations, otherwise, radios today are really good, regardless of brand.

I use Futaba 7pxr because i drive lefty so it's the only reason i'll spend that much. All the setting option are great but the only thing that really help me is the fact that can hold my remote correctly.

When he said it feels different, of course it does! As far as I’ve ever learned, the only difference in the radio is what features you want/need to have. The rest is on you. I’ve actually never considered any radio truly “better” in terms of performance over another. Signal strength, sure. But actually driving, no. Great video and thanks for it!!

really great vid! goes to prove that money doesn't necessarily buy performance! As a relative noob I'd be interested to see how you guys tune or use your radio's features (though this vid would say its not needed), ie what's useful and whats not, and how it should be used

I'm still running my old Radiopost TS-401 lol. Still works and have like 12 receivers for it. Its not the cost of the radio preventing me from replacing it, its the cost of all those receivers I would also need.

Im no major pro - but ive won quite a few A-Mains, plus end of year championships at our club with Futaba 3GR sticks driving Yokomo BMAXs! It all to do with how comfortable you are with whatever you use. I bought a Futaba 4PK wheel just to see if i was missing out on things - i had it 3 months, and just didnt feel comfortable with it. Maybe i needed to give it a bit more time.

The answer is you might be or could be. It’s all a personal preference thing. It’s comfort, ease of use, etc. I have a 7PX. And a Noble. (Was super sketched out about buying but found a used one for $100) so I bought it just to try. If I bought this before the 7PX I never would have bought it. Consider selling it but I have 20 something receivers so it’s not that practical to switch everything over.

@@mcleanrc1751 yeah I love the 7PX don’t get me wrong. It’s the best Transmitter on the market by far. But it’s 3 times the price of the Noble. And I can do basically everything the 7PX can do. The 7PX is just fancy. As for the Sanwa. They make great stuff. But I highly recommend you borrow one and mess with it first. I know many they hate the Interface. I had the Spektrum DX6R before the 7PX and I wanted to like the radio so much but the UI was just a deal breaker for me. And I got rid of it in 3 days

As a newer driver I actually started with a radio from my ProSC10 RTR. Definitely felt cheap but you have to start somewhere. The limited adjustments helped me focus on actually driving instead of tinkering with settings. I moved up to the DX5C and it gave me more as understanding of what each function did and the value of making those adjustments especially for off-road racing. I ended up starting to race on road and found for me that the spektrum didn’t fit as well for the change in discipline. I now use the futaba 4pm and it’s my go to radio. It’s a little more expensive than the spektrum but has a better overall feel and it shows in my lap times not because it’s more expensive but because I have better car control because I can feel how the car responds to the inputs from my hands. In my opinion comfort equals better performance in this aspect.

Good comparison! I just switched from an old 4Pk to 7pxr. I love the new radio and my driving improved but I'm going to say it's a placebo effect lol. I was told I needed a new radio to be competitive and this clearly debunks that. Thanks!

I find consistency is way more important than lap times. I've raced with an m17 and a dx5c and felt more comfortable and more consistent with a m17. Now I have also used the mt44 and it was just as nice as the m17. Feel is definitely way important.

I started by flying RC delta wing airplanes as a target for the Army back in 76 with crystal on a simple transmitter with very few adjustments. Since then, I have tried many name brands and many Japanese knock-offs transmitters with helicopters, planes, boats, cars, and drones, and believe that this issue depends on many factors, how much stick time you get, how much $$ can you afford, and how much dexterity the driver or pilot has, (not everyone is blessed with a good hand to eye coordination). If we take all these things under consideration, there is no right or wrong transmitter, like beauty, it's in the eye of the beholder, the only correct answer to me is, whatever transmitter you feel comfortable with and understand its limitations, adjustment, reliability, and hand comfort, will bring as much satisfaction and joy. If it's high price or a knockoff, practice as often as you can, always seek advice from season pilots, and above all, have fun whichever the outcome is, crash, sink or destroy, you're having fun doing something many wish they could be doing instead of working 40hrs a week.

I have the 4PM currently and I'm happy with it. I question if the $600 7PXR would actually provide any noticeable performance advantages? I also use the DX5C on some of my other RC's that don't get as much wheel time and that transmitter seems sufficient for those vehicles.

I like the DX5C. Using it going on 2 years. My dislikes are minimal. 1: can't move the wheel up or down, but if you are used to it it's fine. 2: the foam comes off the wheel. Had to glue it so it wouldn't just spin. 3: Can't see screen on the stand. No back lighting. Knowing not what a fancy radio has. I'm pretty happy with it. Oh lastly have to use AA batteries. I think there is battery pack upgrade to that radio, but I'd save the money for another radio at some point. Thanks that's my 2 cents.

I have a Spektrum DX4C and I feel great with it. I've tried also a Sanwa MT-44 and a MT-S from two friends and I couldn't get the feel of what the car was doing. I've also let them try the DX4C and they both said they had difficulties with the trigger being too small and that braking was harder compared to the Sanwa's because of the longer range. I guess it's a subjective thing. The only way you can determine what's best for you is trying as many radios as possible.
