The biggest reason why the Mavs were bottom 8 was health. Luka and Kyrie has barely played together. Lively, Maxi, Green, Exum, all missed/missing a bunch of games. The Mavs were starting Powell(bless his heart but he is not even a solid backup let alone a starter), Hardy(a 2nd year Gleaguer), Exum(a lottery afterthought), DJones(was barely a role player) in too many games, with Williams underperforming. And now that they are all practically healthy and by adding more defense and length and solid bench lineup, things are turning around.

I feel like OKC are the new Grizzlies. Memphis had that regular season swagger but were just too young to do anything in the playoffs. But Dallas is legit. Their team might not look that great on paper like the Twolves, Nuggets, Clippers. But they've got the Luka cheat code. And now the Mavs finally have a roster around Luka. In that WCF run they were MAAAAAAYBE 6 deep. Luka, Jalen, Reggie Bullock, Dorian Finney-Smith, Maxi & Dinwiddie. And the Warriors took advantage of their lack of size & how their best defenders (Reggie & Dorian) were just gassed having to play like 46 minutes a playoff game. But now the Mavs have some size with Lively & Gafford with Maxi able to play a big lineup or play small with him as the 5. And they've got several good wing defenders. Maxi & PJ can match up with the big wings. Josh Green, Derek Jones Jr, Dante Exum can run with the smaller wings. They've got good scorers off the bench with THJ and Hardy.

Goodluck guarding Luka, only way to prevent him from getting a hyper efficient 35-40 pt triple double is to double team him, which means Kyrie will get free a lot, and we all know that guy can score 30-50 pt easily. PJail Washington, Maxi Klockdown, Daniel Blockford, and Derrick Switchly can switch and guard multiple positions and defend the rim very well. Josh Green, DJJ, and Exum are very good 3D players, filling up what this team was lacking from last season. And we also have streaky scorers in THJ and Hardy. Luka and Kyrie are also showing up in defense, with Luka being top 1 to 10 in 3 important iso defense categories. With an unstoppable offense that now has multiple rim threats in Lively, Gafford, and PJ. With Maxi healthy making our small ball lineup super deadly defensively (PJ. can also fill up this role very well). And with Luka and Kyrie being the most unstoppable duo in the NBA. I'd say Mavs is very capable of winning the championship this year. Only reason why we are in 6th place is because many of our starting lineup were injured the first half of the year. Our starting lineup has the lowest played minutes together, but now that we are healthy: watch out NBA! Luka the boogeyman is here, and he will haunt all your teams even in their dreams.

ESPN showed a graphic about the Warriors being 5 games back from the 5 seed, yet if they did 5 games above the 5 seed, the Pelicans are .5 off the top in the West. Why is there such an assumption that the top 4 is a lock yet there is a supposed free-for-all between 5 and 10. If the Nuggets/Clippers lose two in a row, the Mavs/Pelicans/Suns can be within 1-2 game of them.

There are nine teams in the West thst i would not be surprised to see in the Finals, basically the top ten in the standings minus the Lakers. One won't make the playoffs, four going home first round. Can you count out the Sins? The Warriors? Dallas looks great, are they beating the Clippers, OKC, Nuggets, or Minnesota? Basically four number one seeds. But Dallas has seven wins in a row, Warriors are 10-2 last twelve, Suns have KD and Booker... Not going to be many four or five game playoff series out West, lots of six and seven game struggles.
