Though the 1974-75 nighttime series would go until September, on January 3rd 1975, the gong sounded for the original Jeopardy! series. In this episode are challengers Debby and Robin and 3 time champion John competing for the very last original daytime championship.
I understand NBC and Sony own the rights to this piece of media, and that this may get removed. However, do enjoy this finding my viewers for as long as you can, thank you!

Alex Trebek is a legend, and made Jeopardy! the hit it is today, but Art Fleming was such an excellent host. Just such a kind, intelligent, classy man. NBC's game show block in the 60s-70s was full of classics. Concentration, Hollywood Squares, this, and of course Wheel of Fortune, which took the place of this show. All of them lasted 10+ years, which was frankly unheard of for a daytime game show back then. This version of Jeopardy! was less about money and more about celebrating intelligence. Kind of like how many forget that Bill Cullen was the original host of The Price is Right because of how great of a host Bob Barker was, many shouldn't forget that Art Fleming was the original host of Jeopardy!, even with how great Alex was.

@@KiddBloo86 Merv Griffin and his wife was responsible for Jeopardy. They had a discussion on a flight from New York to Deluth, MN. They discussed the fact that there were no quiz shows since the scandals of the 1950’s where the contestants were given the answers, his wife said “Lets give them the answers, but they have to come up with the questions!” Merv pitched the idea to NBC and the bought the show without a pilot. The reasons for the name Jeopardy was when a prospective sponsor told him, there were not enough jeopardies in the show.

As a 59 yr old, my childhood television memories did include, among the very few, Art Fleming hosting 'Jeopardy'. Our basic lineup was ABC, CBS, NBC, and PBS, if the weather was mild. Otherwise, one of us, usually the youngest, had to go outside and turn the aerial (antenna) until the signal came back to clarity), who was also the one to have to jump up and change the channel (no remote controls in that day) . Some of the most popular programs in our era, in no particular order (don't recall the shows to networks) : The Ed Sullivan Show, The Carol Burnett Show, The Flip Wilson Show, The Galloping Gourmet (Julia Child), Sesame Street, The Electric Company, The Price Is Right (with Bob Barker with brown hair and Chevy Vega prizes worth $3800), The Dean Martin Roast, Laugh In, etc. etc. etc. Those were the days....never to return.

Wow, that’s a remarkable memory. We lived in the suburbs of our stations’ city - in sight of the transmitters a couple of miles away in nearby hills, so reception was not an issue (through high winds still gave us those ghost images.) … One clarification - Julia Child was the French Chef. It was Graham Kerr who was the Galloping Gourmet.

January 3, 1975: The final episode of the Art Fleming version of Jeopardy! airs on NBC during NBC Daytime, as John, Robin, and Debby compete. Instead of introducing the contestants, announcer Don Pardo appears on camera introducing host Art Fleming. After introducing Art Fleming, he welcomes the show before the game begins. After the Jeopardy! round and before Double Jeopardy!, Fleming shows the greatest moments in the daytime run on NBC, such as the 2,000th Jeopardy! episode in 1972, and the final game of the National College Scholarship contest. After the Final Jeopardy! round and before the closing credits, host Art Fleming gives a message as he signs off for the last time. After the host signs off, "Smile" by Frank Chaksfield and His Orchestra plays as the closing credits rolled over a shot of the darkened empty Jeopardy! set.👍

I remember the very first Jeopardy in 1964. I was five old, but I vividly recall it. The biggest problem they had was explaining to the viewers how it worked. One of the things I like about the old Jeopardy! is that it's not a game of "push the buzzer at the precise time to win" like the modern day version has become. It was about speed and risk. Do you push the button right away, and how fast can you know the answer? That first season with Alex, when it still went by the old rules, was FAST. Now so many of these "super champions" are masters not just because of knowledge, but because they know when to hit the buzzer at the right time. As great as Ken and James are, I wonder if the buzzer part was taken out of the equation would it even the playing field. It's just not as fun (and I know the reason it was done was due to a suggestion by Alex to make it easier for people at home to play along with, but that didn't seem to hurt the Art Fleming version, so...)
