London-based, American-born rapper and singer Ashnikko makes genre-bending hip-hop and electronic pop, marked by her hyper-stylized, anime- and video game-influenced persona. Ashnikko said that The Weedkiller represents so many evil things in the world, including her rapist. I love seeing her fight against it and watching the emotion in her face as she finally takes it out at the end. Even if justice isn't given in real life, if they ever saw this, they'd know it was about them, that's it's own form of justice. Just knowing you have the power in your creative outlets is such a strength. Keep going Ashnikko! Massive fan here

Oh my gosh that's so cool! I always was a little confused if Ashnikko was speaking from the perspective of the Weedkiller (as in she's the one killing weeds) or if she was fighting against it. This makes so much more sense. Also, I wonder if this connects to Daisy since many people consider daises to be weeds?

As someone who has survived horrifying abuse this song feels like an anthem. like it hurts, it will forever hurt, but I turned my pain into armor and knives so no one can hurt me the same way again. like rising from the ashen as something more fearsome than the abuser could ever be

They definitely did put in a lot of hard work and were able to make something really cool!. Ashnikko is so expressive and is a master of creating unique characters and creative story lines. I really like the Aesthetics of this video and for Ash; it really suits her. I am just concerned that Die hard Grimes fans will try to claim that Ashnikko "copied " Grimes' style and look ( Which is not the case). They can both have similar likes and tastes; but creatively and individually employ them in uniquely different ways.

@@friv_0881 I agree with you! Something I’ve noticed lately with a lot of alternative artists is this fairy, dystopian, machine, warrior, is pretty popular right now. That’s completely fine and I am so here for it! I have listened to grimes longer than I have listened to Ash, and while I do think that Grimes has held this type of style for a while now, we also have to remember that artists get inspired by other artists! Some styles of music and music videos are unique and something you might not see very often, but I think it’s very wrong to say that Ash copied Grimes. Nobody can sit here and say “only Grimes can have this style” because that’s not true at all. Ash is allowed to be inspired and make music (and make music videos) that can be inspired by another artist. I can tell they are very in to it, I can feel their emotion and that they had fun writing this song. It’s probably one of my favorite songs, it’s catchy, I sing it all the time, I’m obsessed with this little world that they have going on. It’s chefs kiss. 👌🏼😩

I do not know what this song is about, but for me it seems about killing a part of yourself that doesn't serve you anymore. The weak, scared, pessimist and self conscious version of yourself, who keeps bringing you down and not allowing you to move forward. I love that metaphor, separating yourself from your mental disease can help you overcome it.

Ashnikko is perfection, this needs an anime made based off her and especially this album. Imagine an anime with insect inspired mecha fused with organic materials like thats such a sick concept. It would also make for such an amazing live action, this music video proves that and already has such an anime styled aesthetic to it like can we please turn this into an anime series with a live action adaption. Isn’t it crazy? I’m 39 and I just feel so much when I see what she’s doing. It makes me feel invigorated and wild. I wonder what it must be like to take this for granted, to grow up in a world where this is just one of the many options available to women. I see it as a victory, every time this woman makes art that causes people to feel the entire range of feelings: rage, disgust, joy, power, fear, pride, indignation, inspiration, reflection, gratitude, elation, shock, pleasure, horror. You can see the entire range of feels expressed in the comments and you can see that, whatever they feel, people feel it immensely. Ashnikko is so good and genuine for making songs to release rage on abusers. I found home in her music as I am a survivor of sexual abuse in our own home. The trauma destroyed my entire identity and self-esteem but Ash gave me hopes that I'm a strong person to stay alive fighting my inner demons and be confident with my true identity. Thank you so much for making songs and being our representative at times that we feel so weak.

(He's known to splice loops and co-produce with others infinitely more talented than him despite making music for years😆) Just ignore him and continue listening to better music than he could dream of producing

I think I get what u mean? Like she isn't wearing much but it is self possessed and obviously not pandering to the male gaze. She also is in a position of capability and power in most videos so there's less of a sense of objectification. It feels more like watching a sport or performance art than video vixen or playboy because of the type of poses and frames.

So, Ash obvs never disappoints. I love the costumes, the background. I always love Ash's concepts!! And I loved the bit at the end where she's like stabbing something and the screen goes black, it's very cool. I've always been so impressed with Ashnikko, especially lyrically since I discovered them & it's been amazing watching them grow as an artist. Not only have their videos & lyrics improved (not that they were ever bad just even better now) but their vocal skills have obviously improved & I love that they're experimenting with it.
