I don't know why, but for the design I'd prefer the 7th one, Especially for the Ultimate version, I'm a bit disappointed, though rog phone 8 has bigger RAM and come with 8 gen 3 Edit : Rog 8th generation is more likely a flagship phone than gaming phone, for me i can't feel any gaming sense from that phone, maybe ROG have no idea with a new design?

Nubia 9s Pro takes this year. Rog 8 seems to be a downgraded version of 7 ultimate. My 7 ultimate could probably last for more 3-4 years before having a worthy upgrade.

Seems like the ROG Phone 7, the last phone that using display design that was Samsung used in their Galaxy S8 series

Why the Rog phone 8 should be avoided : The price is higher The battery is smaller The screen now sports a camera nipple The stereo speakers are no longer true and asymetric The cooling system is worse because of IP68 2 years of major updates yet want to target every type of customers Still below average After Sales service Still no DAC on the headphone jack since Rog Phone 6 Useless LEDS on the back that will likely wont be seen with a phone case. The new aeroactive cooler has less buttons and no BASS system anymore but still cost a 100 bucks.
