Mary I'm sorry about your brother. But his situation is not the only reason for legal conservatorship. Do you think Britney is bipolar? Do you think she is diagnosed with bipolar disorder? Or maybe she is BPD? Do you think maybe she could be borderline? If she has a genuine mental health condition (as described in the DSM-V) then in those cases, a conservatorship could be issued by a judge. These things do not have to be contensious. They don't. If you are bipolar, they you are going to wake up at odd times during the night in a mania stage, get on the internet and BUY EVERYTHING. Buy, buy, buy. You will be broke. I have known a lot of bipolar people and the only ones who are not broke (all their life) are the ones who SURRENDER ALL their spending control to another person in their life that they know, loves them. The root word in conservatorship is "conserve." And the principle here is that her father (who probably loves his daughter very much) is trying to "conserve" as much of Britney's wealth (for Britney) that he can. Likely, she will bury him and then all the money will be hers to use. But while he is ALIVE he is being a father and trying to use the courts and use government to make sure that his daughter (who has had some very serious mental health problems) still has a fortune to spend later on in her life.

To someone saying there are other reasons for conservatorship, the above scenario is relatively normal. Britney Spears is completely different. Ps-I am clinically trained, social worker. I happen to do something else now, but this was my background.

I agree! It sounded like no one even told her that she'd have that phone call on the record with the judge because she was trying to rush and get everything she needed to say out there. When she said "I wish I could stay on the phone with you all day" because afterwards she would feel so alone around all the people involved, it broke my heart. I'm scared of what they will all do to retaliate and make her seem mentally unfit until the next hearing. If they'll put her on lithium for refusing to do a dance move, they will surely up her meds to make her seem crazy for the next trial.

I think people should be paid for their time, since they cannot spend that time on another paying job, but I do think there should be a maximum there. Maybe something compareble to a caretaker, or to an accountant?

If anything, money was taken from her for 13 years. They are hiding her actual net worth, because they don’t want you know how much money is on the line.
