I think it helps tremendously for the rapper that he knows the beast in and out. So he doesn't also have to think about that, as he constructs his rhymes.

Idea : Play your own beats and allow the keyboardist to "play" over it so that he's just adding to it, not creating it.

Whenever there's the live beat, I download the transcript and listen to the rap on mute. Sounds a lot better that way.
