День томуNorwegian singer-songwriter Aurora Aksnes - known professionally as Aurora - had first imagined the songs she was working on would comprise three albums, then one, before she firmly decided on two. "I realized that with time, with a lot of thinking, I did realize that I have been writing about two very different parts, but of the same process I would say," she says. "So it makes very much sense spiritually and musically to split it into two parts, so it makes sense now."
That first part, Infections of a Different Kind - step 1, was released in September, 2018. The second part, A Different Kind of Human (Step 2) was released in June, 2019. While in town for a show in the First Avenue Mainroom in 2019, Aurora - along with bandmates Silja Sol, Fredrik Vogsborg and Magnus Skylstad - stopped at The Current for a session hosted by Mac Wilson.
Aurora is based in Bergen, a city on Norway's west coast that Aurora says is home to a thriving artistic community. "It is a very good place to become a musician or a producer or artist," she explains. "We're all very close; we all know each other and support each other. … There's a lot of indie music coming out from Bergen. It's a very good community; we're very lucky."

Now that I’ve viewed many of Aurora’s performances I believe this is my absolute favourite. This magical, mystical artist not only sings like an angel, moves with natural rhythm, writes with the wisdom of an elder and the innocence of a child. A uniquely gifted creator that brings music back to a place we haven’t been for a while. The most inspiring new artist in decades. She is a force of nature.

Yeah, I think your description fits pretty correctly how I am feeling a part of 'Aurora''s world personality, she's soOo magic, fresh, alive ... last time I felt this kind of feelings was with Björk, long long time ago but even then, miss Aurora give me something strange, animal and kind of tribal that her heart mother didn't gave me so ... I really think she's a very special artist/person you can fall in love forever without even know exactly why, but you don't really care after all, because she's healing you in a unique way you adore so much that nothing else can counter it

I dont know how I found this ethereal performance by an angel. I'm a 73 year old musician who has played played and listened to to all types of music since I was 7. This performance was as beautiful as anything I've ever heard or seen. Love her movement to the music. It's absolutely beautiful!!❤❤

I might prefer these to the official versions. The synergy between everyone is absolutely magical. I know many people also praise Silja for her backing vocals but lets not forget the other backing vocalist, the cajun drummer. Plus the bass player has so much passion in his play as well, that's rare. Beautiful.

Trigger warning: S.A. That song is one of my favourites of hers of all time... I can't see it as anything other than a story about s*xual assault... The only lyric that doesn't make sense is "love is wild" because that is not love, but maybe the phrase is there because the perpetrator is often somebody who is supposed to love us, like a parent, family member, or a romantic partner. Does anyone have other theories about the song meaning?

@MellowJelly this is my personal take on it. The song is telling a story of a person who has been abused by a loved one, either family member, some trusted person, or lover. The person is looking at it from a dissociated perspective as the brain can blur the details to protect you or the person refuses to remember fully due to being traumatized and confused by the actions of a loved one. Being in love or loving someone is not always rational and can distort how the loved one is really treating you. The mind may come up with excuses to tolerate the abusive behavior and the storyteller is trying to unravel what happened through their emotions. I believe the storyteller in the song is coming to the realization that they need to take action and gain back their voice but lamenting on love being complicated and what they tolerated to get to this point because they thought this person loved them and they loved them back. They are gaining the strength to take action but are mourning the loss of the love they thought they had. This realization is very hard on a person especially through a dissociated perspective. Love is wild is the vocalization and the tone of coming to this realization. This is my perspective. I don't think their is one perspective or take to this song but this is my personal take on it and I hope it helped to unravel your own thoughts on the song.

So. All this time "Churchyard" was waiting to be released in all its perfection. I love how crystal clear she pronounce each word, along with the way she doesn't stand there and sing, but performs like as in front of an audience. And her voice...? Wow. Just... Wow. Music is about feelings. Making people feel, telling people how you feel, what you feel. So much emotion in these 12 minutes. You are welcome to Norway - and I am sure you are welcomed to Iceland and the Faroe Islands too. We have a practical relationship with our unseen friends. I am telling you this in all seriousness as a person with a very non-religious/superstitious world-view and a happy career in geophysical science :-) I still make myself heard when I approach my mountain cabin after a long period. My grandmother thought me this. Warn friends when you arrive. Always warn them if you plan to empty the hot water from making tea or washing up in the wild. And yes - there are people who make this kind of music and sing with this voice. Reminding us that we should think twice before making fun of someone who likes their hair both long and short or other things that may feel unusual. .

I listen to Aurora's music since 6 years and have seen her twice in concert (intense and unforgettable moments), to me she is a fairy send by Mother Nature, she really spread Love and kindness around her. I loved this Live at the Current, again wonderful arrangements, each song go strait to the Heart and Soul with simplicity. I imagine 6 days later you’ve fallen down the Aurora rabbit hole. I know I did after stumbling upon her for the first time here. Enjoy! So many amazing performances. Аврора - ангелочек, ее движения - отдельный вид искусства, а вокал - это нечто не с нашей планеты. бэк-вокал - шикарен, инструментал максимально подходит под все вышесказанное. Я влюбился, слушаю уже неделю, и просто не могу остановиться. Чертовски рад, что это видео попало мне в ленту.

The first time I ever heard this Angle sing was a special moment in my life, it was akin to being born again. It happened quite, literally changed my life, I felt a very bright spirit enter my soul. The performance at the Current is without doubt one of the best performances that I have ever heard.

Every now and then I come back here, regularly, like a regular meeting with an old friend. And every time is better than the other one. I spent the last 6 months listening to the most extreme black metal (and, believe me or not, lirically speaking it has a lot in common with Aurora hehehe) and now I come back here. Just peace. A gentle break. Aurora is really a heavenly gifted soul.

My first thought when looking at her hair is *"This is why your parents tell you not to cut your own hair"* But the more I look at it the more I love it. And her voice is absolutely angelic. This is the first time I've heard of her but she's going on some playlists for sure.

what i just realized, it's not only aurora's voice that makes me love their music; it's aurora's enthusiasm and pureness performing the songs as well. i'm so glad i stumbled over this yesterday. i watched it probably 10 times since then and am still amazed by the band.
