Had a few thoughts on this whole show but.... This is the reason the league should be transparent with the voting list and who they voted for... This woman isn't qualified to be voting on these awards... How many Haileys is there in the voting pool!?

Betting odds sound about right. Wasn't Nylander the team MVP for the first quarter or so of the season? It took a long slump by Nylander towards the end of the season for Matthews to over take the team points lead. Cosmetically, and maybe to what she was alluding to, if you ever watch a Matthews highlight pack, it is mostly him getting and shooting the puck. I think something like 50 of his goals are possessed by him for less than a second. I don't know why people say he can score in may different ways - he doesn't go through or around defenders. Best shooter, but isn't eye catching

I think 70 goals and 100 assists are both amazing accomplishments. There are awards for the most points another for the most goals. But I feel the MVP should be given on the total skills of a player. Look at McDavid and McKinnon how dangerous they are. The amount of times they steal the puck away and skate the entire length of the ice to create a scoring opportunity. The speed they have to skate back the full length of the ice to stop a scoring chance. Both players at times will create an amazing scoring opportunity out of nothing, move arounds players and make the perfect pass for a tap in. Yes the goal was scored but 90% of that play was done before hand. It's just an assist. Or same thing but you were the 4th person to touch the puck. You created the opportunity but no points on the play for all your hard work. Another point I feel important is the play making to help set up goals for other players to score. By doing so you could help a player to become a 20 goal scorer. That would be such a boost to that players confidence. The better they play, the better the entire team plays. It's a team sport you could score 80 goals or 125 assists but if you cannot help the other players to elevate the entire team???. You cannot win by one player alone. .

You bring up a lot of interesting points JD, shameful to hear the best counter-argument being "but MacKinnon is more aesthetically pleasing". It is self-admittedly "not the most scientific" approach for Mrs. Salvian to take and I think it speaks to the way the voters tend to vote with their emotions rather than with logic.

Matthews had a special season - and maybe he was the definitive MVP in the last month. But overall, McKinnon did better, it is what it is.

Even if Matthews scored less i’m pretty sure the Leafs would have been in the playoffs. But would the Oilers be there without MacDavid finding his game after terrible start? O think this isn’t even close and Matthews isn’t top 3 by the end of it.

Matthews took the number of goals one of the top three players in the whole league had and added 33% more goals. That said, my vote goes to Josi. He took a team most people had as rebuilding and quite thoroughly out of the playoffs to 99 pts and a WC1 spot. Goals, primary assists, defensive play. Without Josi, the Preds are 7th in the central. Also, Defensemen are just naturally underrated in my book. The last time a Dman won the Hart was in 2000. You’re telling me it has been 24 years since the most valuable player on a team was a defenseman? Now, that isn’t saying it applies this year. But, it does show trophy voters undervalue D in the long term. Watching Josi play on Nashville… he gets my vote. My picks in order are: Josi Matthews Crosby MacKinnon McDavid

How are you going to downplay Kucherov's year? He has 142 points while the 2nd in scoring for Tampa has 89 points! Take away Kucherov from the Lightning and they don't make the playoffs. And are we going to ignore how good McDavid has been defensively this year? He should legit get selke votes, anyone who disagree hasn't seen many Oilers games this year.
