“Someone pooped in it.” That actually happened to a kid when I was in 2nd grade. My teacher was NOT having it and the entire class was punished for it. Turns out, it wasn’t even a kid that did it, but the random cat the kid snuck into the school and it somehow escaped into the halls. What’s worse about it, the cat didn’t even belong to the kid(they found it at the bus stop) and it got lost in the school for MONTHS. It even had kittens somewhere in our school and you could hear the little mews as you walked down the hall. It was a whole moment and made the experience funnier as a child 😅😂

As a teacher I always advise, don't buy supplies before school starts. The district puts out a list I only use 1/2 of, if that. I hate when parents spend tons of money buying stuff some administrator in an office downtown who hasn't even been inside a school in 10 years decided every single classroom needs. If you just have to send stuff to school on day 1, send crayons, pencils, and paper. Also, every parent sends the 4 boxes of kleenex on day 1. Don't, everyone else will and storage is always disaster. Send your 4 boxes in January when we're running low and have room for them.

As a mom I’m having school shopping with three girls flashbacks. This is so accurate. I also still have an unopened package of 2 count red marking pencils my oldest daughter’s kindergarten teacher had on her list that was sent home unused at the end of the year. My daughter is 32 yrs old.

My mom is the One that says “You need this.” “Let’s buy the biggest package, you will use them you will see” “I’m taking this for your little sister” and I’m like “But that wasn’t on the list…” 🧍🏽‍♀️

Usually, my mother from another grandmother (step mom) does it when my daughter is down at their house, two weeks before she goes back to school. But, my step mom had a surgery, so it was on me. Let's just say, I understand why teachers want the extra supplies. That stuff is stupid expensive! I'm a coupon queen, and I still spent about $70. I did keep the school supplies list, and started buying next year's supplies, now that everything is on clearance. 😁🤓

Fun fact, in romania schools can legally have you buy overly expensive deluxe school packages that are basically required if you want to enter said school after you were accepted. Why? Cuz only the deluxe edition has the pass to enter.

I followed the list strictly in elementary-first year of middle school then decided I want folders with actual designs on them and my parents were 100% ok with it as long as it works for me lol.

This is why my dad shopped for school supplies behind my back! 😂 In a way, it wasn’t at all hurtful to me because as a kid, I’d get distracted so much, he’d just buy the supplies without me in which really helped me become less distracted with the things at school I shouldn’t be concerned with! It also gave me the space to decorate plan notebooks with my own personal art as he didn’t mind me doing so! If I needed anything extra, he’d get it for my as long as I tell him what it is! I freaking love my dad! He helps me do everything I need to do!

exact opposite here. my parents are the ones who insisted i got a bunch of random stuff when i mostly focused on the essentials. it's like that for everything. my parents certainly didn't raise me this way since they're not like me, it's just something i developed naturally. i don't know why i am like that, honestly.
