Miss T.E.A You did not expect, but many-many old Russian song are wonderful. I listen only to Old Russian songs, and I do not understand Russian. A small example: ukposts.info/have/v-deo/eWh3jGpvmGhes5s.html Next song is in Hebrew, sang by a Moldavian girl, that does not understand the lyric, but the result is wonderful: ukposts.info/have/v-deo/j4-bgohrbKOQk2g.html Enjoy.

@@user-oi8uc6nb3l Thank you. I know it is an Ukrainian song. In addition to many Russian songs, in my collection, I have also Old Ukrainian, including this one. They are also very nice. The version I have, is with the same singer. I have the song at least 10 years, so the young singer on the stage does not sing it, just moving his lips. Anyway, the song is nice. I know also very good composers from Ukraine: Mayboroda, Shamo and Ponomarenko. I listen to their songs a lot. All the best.

A 25 year old who can get that low - and he did have to struggle a little - is amazing. My Father and Grandfather were both trained Oktavists and I remember my Grandfather going very low and you couldn't really hear the note but you could feel it reverberating through the air. It'll be great to see what Dmitry will be capable of as he grows into a fully mature Basso Profondo.

@None Ya What does Moscovia the old name for Russia mean? Most names for countries have a meaning. that is nothing new. Yes it is an old Ukrainian song because Ukraine too has a tradition and culture. In fact the words to the song were written in the middle of the nineteenth century.
@catnap387
@catnap387 3 роки тому
@None Ya Ukraine as a self governing independent state didn't exist but the people who shared a language, culture and traditions DID. They are known as Ukrainians. Ukraine's territory was occupied by imperial states namely Austro-Hungary and Russia who had their own names for the people of Ukraine. However the Ukrainians have a DISTINCT IDENTITY which has kept them together although their masters, Russia in particular, would prefer that Ukrainians would be ignorant of their distinct identity from Russia. Hence it is VERY IMPORTANT to emphasise what is Ukraine's so Ukraine's heritage does not get masked/hidden as Russian or anything else. There were several new independent countries created in the 20th century, Ukraine being one. In conclusion it is very correct to clarify that the song here is Ukrainian and not anything else!

Utterly mind-blowingly phenomenal; an all-round triple BRAVOS performance !!! And the soloist has everything: great voice, great technique (and great looks, too) !!!! 😯😯🙂🙂 WOW !!!! Added later: I am an 80 years old concert soloist and choirmaster, and spent decades trying to achieve such a clear low range. He has it all!! Also plaudits to the chorus and director. We see too little of him, but he is obviously a master musician. In all my years in music, I have to confess to be overwhelmed by this performance. Again, triple BRAVOS and best wishes!!!😃😃😃 (I had to sing the last passage up an octave: envious but admiring of this young man. 🙂🙂) I heard Monteur in his late 80's and the wonderful Stokowski at over 80 in Boston and later in London( all marvelously nuanced interpretations) Of course I am not in tha6 outstanding class, but like them, I'm aiming for 100, to make good music, and support the fine younger musicians and directors I may find, until God calls me home. I hope there is music in Heaven !!!

I'm a bass-baritone and can't even come close to this young man's vocal range. I have always been fascinated by how low the male voice can sing!!! Russians seem to have a monopoly on low notes in their folk and classical music both in performance and compositions. I would love to examine this young man's vocal cords!! They must be massive!!

Watching this amazing performance I was so struck by his concentration. I saw him carefully inhale, pause, and then "sing" the last incredible note. Was that careful inhalation more for sustaining the sound or for the sound itself? or both? Is the length of the vocal cord (the uvula?) and breath control the key elements, relying on each other? The performer is obviously very large, but is that alone accountable for the length of his vocal cord (uvula)? Does age have anything to do with it as suggested elsewhere? (I sound like a three-year old, why, why, why. Well, I am, just older.)
