There’s too much hypocrisy. Diesel emissions screams hypocrisy. Creating a “cleaner” burning engine while creating more emissions to build the parts and using more fuel, adding a plastic jug full of urea etc. The list goes on and on. There’s clearly an impact we have but trying to “fix” it on the end consumer level is ridiculous while corporations and the big guys seem to be exempt. Buying an electric car or tool or anything makes you far from an environmentalist. What happened to your old car, did it just evaporate into space? Rant off. I love my battery huskys! The 201t gets used about two tanks a year now! Edited to add urea

Have you guys used the 20v and 60v DeWalt chainsaws? I have both and find them extremely useful. The 20v comes with a 12in bar the 60v comes with a 16in, but a poulan pro style/Oregon 18" bar fits the 60v allowing you to run the spare 16" on the 20v (how mine are normally configured) I find them both really useful paired with DeWalts bigger battery options and since I already have a bunch of their impacts and such it seemed like a no brainer to me, I still have a big McCulloch, but I use my battery saws for the smaller stuff now way more convenient.

Clogger has a video of their zero pants stopping a 540i xp dead in it’s tracks. While not advised, i think the whole ‘battery saws defeat all chaps/trousers’ thing may be more for lawyers than actual practical application. Awesome video though, nice to see the differences in power between the saws.

I've taken chaps to the wood pile and they've stopped all of my battery saws just like a 2 stroke saw. If you really think about it - if chaps COULDN'T stop a battery saw, then it would also never have a stalled chain when cutting.

As a homeowner I'm still rocking a pair of Mini-mac 30 &35 for pruning. The cost of entry to get into a top handle battery saw is just to high for me. When those saws keep rolling along. Like you said battery has it's place. I use a cordless reciprocating saw for lighter pruning limbing and it works great.

Ben in my mind the best. Saws I own are stihl 200T.. the echo 2511 looks interesting. The stihl 150 is nice. I find that top handle saws have a balance that I really like. The small gas top handle echo and husky saws are not that expensive and can be with you a long time. The battery husky top handle could be a do it all saw for a homeowner. A good friend only buys stihl pro saws. 261 and 361 size saws.. i cant run a standard handle without a wrap... my friend loves to use my battery pole saw. And my stihl top handle 14 inch with lightweight bar... 99 or 150 dollar homeowner saws can be fine if you use them very little , but the feel of them is not something I like. Dont like the plastic feel or vibrations or odd balance. . So buying one small saw that is well made can be a good 20 or 30 year investment.

I enjoyed this video and I'm not interested in the going Green deal, but I could start cutting earlier in the morning and not wake anyone up.. You made a great point about the diesel fumes VS burning. Diesel Fumes are a known carcinogen, so try to stay upwind. Next they'll want you to have an Battery Powered Electric Chipper. How many batteries would that take? Stay safe up there.

Worked in a lumber yard years ago and a customer came in who was removing a bridge made of rail road ties and covered with asphalt and gravel. He wanted a chain saw blade that he could use on this material. I did some checking and found a carbide tipped blade like the firemen use to cut into wood with a lot of nails. Bought some of these and the customer said they did the job. Don't know if it might help when you run into trees with a lot of metal.

Chaps do work with electric, I don't know why manufactures started to say that, maybe it was to get out liability. The saw gets tangled by the threads of the chaps just like gas, just the electric will have more torque at lower speeds to overcome than gas, but they will still get all tangled up and stall.

I'm guessing a good comparison would be how they work up in a tree. How long do they last vs each other. Also, how do they feel up in a tree making cuts from a harness. Which creates more fatigue. If you can get a days cutting done on 1 battery, that would be a nice saw when your climbing.

I don't get it on chaps and electric chainsaws? Electric saws stop the second you take your finger off, and don't keep spinning a chain/clutch like gas powered. I just don't see how you could cut yourself, unless you are really drunk and think cutting your leg off is a good idea? I almost always wear chaps running a gas saw, and have hit my left leg twice when the tip hits something in high brush and knocks it back into my leg, when moving to the next cut. I have a hard time imagining the electric saw could ever cut you, unless you are holding something, and cut into yourself.

Battery vs Gas = laugh. No shop has just one hammer or one screwdriver. Use the right tool for the job. The battery with leash seems like the choice when you're doing a lot of small and medium trimming, especially when above your shoulders. (Lightweight, easier on the arm & wrist). I could think of other applications where a gas cutter would be better. A question: for same power saws, does an electric have a stronger torque for that first second after you pull the trigger? How about residual heat, while dangling against your leg?
