This video made me realize how horrifically terrifying being an airman would be in these types of wars. @@destroyerarmor2846 OH! For sure, no doubt dude! I was in the US Army, and often thought about how I would react in a firefight (I never got deployed but I heard very detailed stories, and videos ect.) I was just saying people don't often put themselves in the mindset of flying a plane in a battle zone (at least I never really thought about it). The few seconds between your plane getting hit, and you hitting the ground has to be the scariest feeling imaginable. Just knowing you're going to die with nothing you can do to save yourself.

One interesting innovation Souviet aviation used during the Battle of Kursk was PTAB - Anti-Tank Aviation Bomb. It was very small bomb, of only 2,5kg in weight, which used cumulative charge to penetrate the armor from above. IL-2 could take as much as 4 containers of 48 PTABs each, they were also used by bombers and fighters. PTABs were dropped massively and covered quite large area; hitting a tank with one bomb was usually sufficient to take it out. By the end of the war over 14 millons of PTABs were produced.

@@unkind_grape9077 maybe not wrong so much as incomplete, but to be fair, history is such a vast field of study its impossible to sufficiently cover everything in the time most schools have, so they teach what they hope the (often disinterested) students could hopefully remember. You also figure most history teachers in public schools probably did not specialize in history as their focus of study, since education degrees often require a much broader field of subjects. I think the big thing teachers should do is teach kids in a way that they want to go and learn more, since that's really the key to teaching at any education level

What I find funny about the battle of Kursk is the Soviet equipment losses are much more than what they threw into the battle. Because unlike the Germans who recorded losses as in the vehicle completely wiped out of existence, the Soviet just put down any damaged machines as a loss, then they repaired it and put it back in action, then if it get damaged again they would consider it as another loss.
@user-xh9pu2wj6b

@minhvo8009
@minhvo8009 2 роки тому
@@user-xh9pu2wj6bYeah it make sense. The Soviet were much more concerned about the ability to fight of their machines on a daily basis, so if any equipment does not available the next day, it would be count as a loss. It's a bad recording habit for future study but I think its pretty good for their commanders to make decisions. If I was a Soviet officer I would also want to know exactly how many tanks or planes I could use in the next day.
