Hi guys this is the battle after Agrigentum. It's the year 260 BC, during the initial parts of the first punic war. Rome was succcessful on conquering some parts of Sicily. The new consuls Gnaeus Cornelius Scipio and Gaius Duilius were sent by the senate to lead the legionaries in Sicily much like their predecessors. Rome however to continue their victory againts Carthage they needed newer technology. The romans had a big advantage : Land Battles. They also had a big disadvante which was their navy. To win the war they also required a powerful navy. This is fortunately surpassed by the Rome thanks to a Carthagenian Quinquireme, a ship of the line in the ancient time. The version which the Romans used was almost similar to their counterpart, it has a closed hull, 5 oars per each side and a battling bronze ram. Scipio after helping the convoys at the Strait of Messina, he got a letter fromone of the people of Lipari. The consul accepted and eager to try the new war machines they head to Lipari but then got blockaded by Boodes and Hannibal Gisco. The battle started the day after and it was a crushing defeat for Rome. Scipio was then freed with his commanders and the famous congnome Asina was given to him by the senate and romans.
Though it was a defeat for Rome, they would continue tweaking their new technologies.
