I have this tent. It kind of sucks. (As a backpacking tent especially, which it is marketed as). As a car camping tent i suppose it’s fine, but there are better options. The idea of this being ultralight is laughable. It is a boat anchor for sure. Easily 6 pounds of not more, and the website advertised it as less. Coming from someone who is ultralight (base weight around 7-9 lbs depending into the season) this thing is a monster weight wise. But I get there is heavier. It has done fine in rain so far. Nothing totally torrential but brief boughts of rain, nothing leaking yet. I do have issues with the company though. They are very sketchy. Like you said, they advertise as UL and that’s just wrong. They seem to have a lot of “claims” that are just wrong or misleading. For example, their sleeping pads do not have an R-value. After asking them multiple times they kept saying wait a little longer in a few months they should have an official one. Nothing. Expect for briefly on their site when they had it tucked away at the bottom of the product description. I think they said both pads were 1.2 or 1.3? No mention of ASTM or EN/ISO verification at all. And then about a week later they wiped it from the site. Kind of weird... Thanks for covering this Luke! Edit: I also want to add my version does have guy lines. I can send some pictures if you would like. Very odd they are not present here.

I feel like everyone is just ignoring how the company specifically states that the ultralight configuration is just the fly and footprint, not the whole tent….which in that configuration is pretty light…

I have this tent. I got it for my first-year (11 yr old) boy scout son. The thing is awesome. At his age, most camp outs are basically car camping, so while I did notice the "ultralight" designation, it didn't matter so much to me. He needed something budget, rain proof, and easy to setup. I think this tent hits 10s on all those metrics. NOTE: we've never tied the rain fly to the poles as you did in your video. Stake that sucker down, and use the guy lines and it isn't going anywhere. We used it in a deluge at a scout campout last June, and his tent was one of the few that was dry inside. I like the thicker "bathtub" bottom, and that the footprint was included. The ventilation is not the greatest with fly fully on and doors zipped closed, but its easily correctable. Simply roll up a door flap on each side, or even rollup the fly on one side if the weather is nice.

I've got the Zion 1p and I've never had a problem with it. Used it in snow, rain, heat, and cold. I've also never used to rain fly pole ties, just didn't feel necessary. I'm able to get a perfect pitch every time without using stakes.

I've had this tent for a few months, and I've used it in some pretty treacherous conditions. It works beautifully. I bought it because it's the best bang for your buck that I could find. There are lighter tents, but they're much more expensive. I'm lucky enough to be in shape, so carrying the extra few pounds doesn't bother me.

I too bought this tent for the exact same reasons. My wife and I typically split the weight. We shed 4 lbs from our old to this tent so it feels light(er) weight but I can't imagine what going to a real lightweight tent feels like.

I have this exact tent. I bought it as my first cheapo "ultralight" (lol) tent. It is really freaking heavy. That being said, I haven't had anything break. I don't tie the fly to the poles and I pretty quickly decided to make adjustable guy lines. I've had it in several bad thunderstorms but it has never leaked. The condensation is pretty bad but you don't notice it with the double wall thankfully. One time it was raining really hard and the rain hitting the hint knocked condensation on me laying in the tent. That's all the condensation problems I've had. I usually sleep with one door half open now too. The vents don't do much at all. I'm excited to see how it goes for you and I'm looking forward to hearing your verdict. I actually really like the tent for car camping. It's great if you don't have to carry it very far...

I have the 2p Yosemite I use for motorcycle camping. Stayed 5 days at the Deadwood, South Dakota KOA in June, 2021,during an Indian motorcycle rally. It rained non stop 4 out of the 5 days. Nary a drop of rain entered the tent. Got down to 45 degrees at night and HnB zero degree sleeping kept me comfortably warm. East to set up. Takes me 3-5 minutes to set it up. You didn’t mention it has ykk zippers. One last thing, Hyke N Byke has outstanding customer service. And no, I don’t work for Hyke n Byke and never heard of them until I found them while surfing the internet.

I've been using the Yosemite 2P for a few years now and have had zero issues. It's definitely on the heavy side for backpacking, but I like how easy it is to set up and how much room there is. I hope you don't write off the company altogether.

I have this tent and had to return the first one. After careful inspection of all of the seams I found a small area that the thread went off track so I exchanged it for a new one. The new one had no issues but I haven't used it yet so I look forward to your review. My understanding of it being light weight is that it has a "light weight mode" where you use it without the body which is mostly mesh anyway. I'm in Florida so mesh is required year round.

I’ve had my Zion 2p for a couple weeks now. I live in a tent, and this one is great so far. The plastic ties on the drawstrings are a little too big for the string, I pulled them off the first couple times I set up but they go back on and won’t come off if you pay attention. I seldom use the ties. Adding a guy line at the head and foot of the tent is a must if you want a good right setup. I had to buy a set of pegs, the stakes it comes with are great but not ideal for rocky soil. I did not know about having the ridge pole on top of the main pole, I’ll have to see how that changes things. Where those poles meet has a very small screw down inside where it swivels, that came out on mine but because the poles weren’t sliding together there, I managed to see it and screw it back in.

I bought this tent a couple of years back, and since I was a beginner in tents I have no idea what an ultralight tent should be like. This tent is heavy! I don’t really do a lot of hiking, but it is still heavy as heck. Since I need to walk quite a distance to the campsite this thing weighs me down every step I take. So far, it has survived tropical rains where I am but I have not had the opportunity to use it in a storm. Currently I am looking at lighter tents without having to burst my budget but it seems impossible a task.

I carry a few 4" bungees to tension tieouts. Also, get rid of the stakes and use hooks. They're a little tougher to hammer, but they dont tear up your hand trying to set them and wont ruin your day when you inevitably step on one. I recommend eating the weight penalty and using steel stakes.

Anything with lots of poles and heavier fabric will be heavier than something with fewer poles, or higher quality thin-walled poles and lighter fabric weight. Coating quality and workmanship are things that show up with use. Heavy tents are fine for occasional short trips.

I ended up buying the 1 man version of this since I already have the similar and so-far reliable ALPS Mountaineering Chaos/Phenom 2 which seems to have better thought out clips and zippers and was about the same price. That thing comes in at 6.8lbs with the groundsheet, and has worse stakes but better guy-out points. It's not too bad to backpack with with a partner if you break up the components to keep your weight down. The 1- Person Hyke and Byke is STILL 4.8lbs with ground sheet, not light, but it has so far stayed dry, even with the vents open in heavy rain. Probably more than OK for kayak and bike camping, but for backpacking I'm probably only going to end up carry 1.5L of water to balance that out

From Washington state to New England to upper Maine . This tent has never failed me. It was pricey but I got it on sale for room for new stock.I wish they still made it . The base tent design looks to be the same as my MSR Hubba Hubba, dimensions aside. Which is also similar to my NorthFace Mica; with the Mica having the double-pole at the head and a single-pole on the foot vs the double & double on this. The design seems to work really well for me. edit: Heck, even the fly design/layout seems to be the same as the MSR too.

For the price i think it´s an excellent tent, there have been small issues i think but all in all it performs very well. I think the new spider pole is ok but in the other hand the first model that comes with yosemite tent with two separate poles is most simple and it´s less prone to failures due to the number of joints and mechanisms through the use and time.

@Rogeball PB I've got my NatureHike Cloud-Up 1P tent and that thing works like a charm. But I'm in the market for a new 2p tent, so I can take my dog along. However 6 lbs seem a little heavy to me. I will probably go with one of the NatureHike 2p tents if I don't find something better by the fall.

6 lb. is actually ultralight in my vocabulary.

I never use those tie offs on the rain fly on any tent that has it. It’s not needed

Hi Luke, I am from Australia. I assume many of your regular viewer, like myself, are not from the US (which is why I assume you started to put the metric mesurmentds as well) but most of your product review has absolutely no relevance to us, as these products are mainly sold in the US or not sold/knows/popular elsewhere. I personality never heard of most of the products you review. any chance you can broader your review to other, more international products? or not US specific brands/products?

Ultralight haha . Thanks for review 2 things broke already, that isn't starting out so well. If a company doesn't pay attention to small details of every piece of product, then that throws up warning alerts in my head, that the critical parts are over looked as well.

Sounds heavy to me. Parts breaking out of the bag is not a good sign. The pole looks like a larger version of the HAM radio antenna I have mounted on the house!!

Make wooden stakes when you get there, that will take some weight off it, I would also put some velcro to tie to the poles

Yeah I thought that too, but last time the ground was so rocky it wasn't even possible, I just carry them now. Plus so much easier if you need to hurry from storms.
@rumblechick73

But then you have to carry a decent knife to make the stakes, so the weight probably equals out.

I suppose that by not calling this tent "hike and bike" the company selling this tent does not technically ly.

Clearly you are just too strong for those pullties...not suitable for you ;). I do not like these straps connecting the fly to the poles - even in your first impression video they look as it they are about to tear off.

Hyke and byke was sent back twice. No ventilation and condensation was soaking my sleeping bag when it rained. I thought maybe it was a leak, oh no, it was that much condensation. It was ridiculous, we have had lots of tents, worst one yet. Imo they suck. I don't have time for companies that do not do R n D.

Bruh it ain't broken, u just pulled it off too much, there should be a knot at the end, maybe factory fault, but u can fit the rope through and it will be okay again, kinda karen behaviour

First Impressions are the worst impressions, I'm waiting for the test night, but if parts are breaking from the gitgo, probably cheap plastic instead of aluminum. I'll pass on even considering that company...
