I go over the basics of brazing a rear cage together in this video, featuring the RC4WD C2X. This is definitely for beginners, but should get you started in the fun that is brazing!
Check your local welding supply, or hardware store (or Amazon) for all your brazing tools I mention in this video.

That’s cool.i haven’t brazed in years.i did it before I could weld.im going to try it on my next project.also you can get line benders that are like pliers.you can get a tighter bend.

I’ve tried brazing but I suck at it. I’m not giving up on it because I love the feeling of taking materials and making something cool and/or useful out of them. I’ve done it on my Chevy Apache project truck quite a bit and I want to bring it to 10th scale for myself as well. I have access to a welder to make all of the stuff I want to, but it’s a half hour away and I’d rather be in my shop where I’m most comfortable and can learn at my own pace. This video will definitely help me make some cool stuff for my rigs, so thanks a ton!

I use a micro torch. It's great for getting the heat into tight places and keeping it away from places you don't want it. Also a chainsaw sharpening stone for use in a dremel is great for shaping the ends of the tubes for a no gap fit. In the end your joints will be stronger and look better than ones with large gaps filled in with silver solder which itself is expensive especially when you have to use twice as much to fill gaps in your joints.

good video. pretty good basic brazing info. brazing rods from home depot or lowes or whatever will be cheaper than that silver solder yer using. I use a ts8000 torch but the flame is a little big, it works fine for small stuff you just gotta be a little more careful. for more precise heat placement a jewelers torch works best. I actually like the way a brass brazed joint looks on steel. it's a nice contrast, and, when you get to where you can run that solder in smooth it makes a very eye pleasing joint. tig welding these little projects is where it's at methinks. a lot more expensive to get set up, but, super precise heat and bond. the truck is lookin great. I enjoyed this video very much have a badass day 🤘🏻

I got a scx10 ii cherokee on order, i was thinking of doing the same thing on front bumper. Use my Tig welder and weld a hoop bumper. You could probably solder this all together too. With .040 Tig rod at 5 amps should work. I probably wont need filler, can just melt metal together. 👍 on video. Great ideas

To figure out what your bends need to be use plumbing solder it has a large diameter & it bends easily & you can reuse it over & over for long tubes the shorter pieces not so much. This is especially helpful for interior cages. If you want to do a complete mockup you can use C A (super glue) to glue it together to see if you like it or not. I have a small oxygen propane torch I bought @ Lowes & I used the Lincoln Electric brazing rods. I am going to try the borax & brass wire technique like someone else mentioned in the comments next.

Good stuff! I started brazing today, found a dusty old set up that was used by former shop personnel a few years back. (Oxy Acetalin) super lucky and stoked to get to learn with this legit set up. I successfully brazed up some .250 stainless rod and made an effective and decent looking bash bar for the scx10.2. Learned a lot from your video, really appreciate it! OMG Matt!!! You made my week!!! 😁😁😁 I've already got everything you mentioned except the Mapp Gas and Nozzle, Solder and Flux and a Bench Vise! Oh, and Brake Line. NONE of which sounds prohibitively expensive!! 😁😎 (I apologize up front. This will be LONG! There are things I feel like I need to say to you) 😃 Also as a Retired Auto Mechanic, and Custom Engine Builder, I've got OCD level pipe (Fuel and Brake Line) bending and trimming skills and am a pretty decent Welder.... 😉 I've seen other how to Tiny Truck Welding Videos, and was disheartened by the COST of the equipment to get the results they were getting. 😞 Could you please provide me with links or at least part descriptions for the MAPP apparatus, Silver Solder and Flux you use?? 😁 I've wanted to do custom Cage Work since I discovered the Tiny Truck end of the RC Hobby - from YOU, Chris @ GCM and Aaron at RCSparks in 2014!! 😎👍👍🇨🇦 That's true. I was disgusted with how RC Vehicles I kept seeing looked like Moon Buggies with tires sticking out of the Fenders by what looks like 5 SCALE FEET!!! 😖😞😡 I was doing a search for Model Railroading Videos, and "accidentally" stumbled upon your, Aaron's, Chris's and later, Josh's Channels. You helped me discover after a 9 year hiatus from the Hobby, that SCALE Modeling, my passion, had a big place in the RC Hobby!!! I thank you Sir, sincerely. 😉😎👍👍 Again I'm TERRIBLY sorry that in 2015, when we lost EVERYTHING, that in desperation, I reached out to the RC Community to try to get help rebuilding my collection and to start my new found Love, Scale Trucking!! I'm not a beggar, and contrary to popular belief, NOT a Scammer. Still don't remember who started that. I'm pretty sure that your Friend Richard, will never talk to me again... I've made quite a few enemies in my improper means of trying to get help. THANK YOU Matt, if you got to the end of this book!! 😉 PLEASE Stay SAFE! 😷 Carmine ✈🚂🚙

just dove into brazing and built 2 cages, was really fun. Hardest part for me is keeping the pieces in place and designing the part. I designed it adobe illustrator and printed out all the pieces and used that as a template. helped a little bit. anyhow. Fun to make stuff. Have you ever brazed steel rod not tube?

Nice, just found you! Yes, full size tube chassis race cars were brazed back in the day, itself an extension of soldering.......BTW, it’s ALWAYS Science......with artisanship thrown in. I use a jeweler’s torch which is just a finer tip for more concentrated heat control, but normal “box store” torch can get the job done too. Sub’d 😎

i use a little Proxxon MFB (mikroflambrenner), silversolder and very thin stainless steel tubes with 0.3mm wall thickness. the tubes are superfast hot don't really conduct heat and other joints won't "open". super light (1m of 5mm tube weights 36g) but expensive (12€/m) downside: you need to notch the tubes very precise.

Hi Matt, Great topic. I am diving into fabricating a cage and was looking at options for brasing. One is the Bernzomatic with the small MAT tank found many hardware stores and the other is jewelry torch using acetylene and oxygen tanks and regulators. Obvious cost difference, but have you found the joints made with the simple Bernzomatic system to hold well? Thank you for putting this together - John

Just at the right time! Thank you for this video! Just last night I tried to build a little interior roll cage with brass tube and silver solder - and overall it actually turned out decent. However, I struggled the most with the correct measurements. I have the same tube bender like you showed in the video and just don't understand, how to align it right ... do you mark the rods in the middle of the bend or where the furthest point is going to be? Btw: dog people are the best!
