As someone with ADHD...yup, this is pretty accurate. Right after I started ADHD medication at the age of 33 it was an epiphany when mid-washing dishes, I saw something else in the kitchen needing to be done, (with sponge in hand) was able to pause before moving to that other task, and tell myself, "I'll get to that after I finish the dishes." 🤯

anyone please describe more into detail being on the pills, I dunno I can be taking em, because I learned to live with it and taking advantage of it... my work and workflow and creativity is based on total chaos, but I'm content creator and designer and I need to be creative and I need the hyperfocus, helps me finish difficult projects I'd be lazy to even start or work on. I'd say pills will take all that from me + psychical medication often leads into gaining weight. Pot lil helps me to focus and to be productive, but makes me silent eh.. beer helps me focus only on manual work, but turns me at least into the 'normal' person socially.

@@a420dro I'm a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor/Therapist as well as a Musician, Songwriter, and arts-n'-crafts maverick. TBH taking my prescribed Dopamine & Norepinephrine Anti-depressant with a prescribed stimulant medication (appropriately), has helped me finish and time the several projects and pieces that I start. Typically, I'll have like 10 or more things I'm working on at the same time, and it's difficult to finish them due to the constant loss of focus, motivation and anxieties via RSD. I'm the same way normally with THC and Alcohol. Also, when I got used to my medication, I ended up naturally not wanting to use rec. substances as much. I think it is because I was getting the mental steadiness and release, I was hoping for physically and mentally through my medication. Word of caution, every person's body chemistry is different...it takes some trial and error as well as patience to find what works best for you. A recommendation (look into) "Genesight Testing: genesight.com/ . God Speed Ahead!
@jazzyj7834
@jazzyj7834 5 місяців тому
@@a420dro It produces the ability to buffer / queue tasks in your head. Furthermore it gives you the ability to stop and think before acting - something most people have the ability to do but ADHD kinda just... doesn't. Also it makes starting a task you don't want to do way easier, which means it's basically a giant 'motivation' booster. ADHD is sometimes jokingly compared to erectile dysfunction of the brain - doesn't matter how badly you want to do something, it's not a willpower thing. Meds make your willpower actually hold sway over doing things like it should. Everyone reacts differently to different medications and treatments, so find what works for you. But as someone in their mid-30s who's been on meds since they were in preschool I literally cannot function like an adult off of them. They're not addictive - in fact forgetting to take them or refill your prescription is the main hurdle with them, but they can create a dependency because you don't have to use coping mechanisms every day to do basic tasks. So, that said, if you're used to using those coping mechanisms, then this shouldn't be an issue. However, it will feel like putting on glasses and seeing the world clearly, and you'll likely not want to go without because of it. I mean, a person with glasses can absolutely function without them. But ask people with glasses if they'd intentionally choose not to wear them and go back to blurry vision as a default and I promise none of them will say yes seriously.

restraint is still a choice when you have ADHD btw, acting like that is a choice you choose to make. its the same with emotions, you dont control what emotions you feel but that doesnt mean your emotions control you and how you act. ADHD is the same
@Amy-zr5mn
@Amy-zr5mn 3 місяці тому
@@0AAHENIX No, it's not the same. We're talking about a well-researched, neurological disorder that affects executive functions and *self-control* (see the problem with your assessment?). Which choice to make is something you control, but your choices may be limited; ADHD symptoms like distractability and hyperfocus are absolutely NOT a choice. While there are some tools, coping mechanisms, and resources that can help us (if we can *remember* to use them!), just using "restraint" to control ADHD--if it works at all--is mentally exhausting, highly limited, and impossible to sustain. It's kind of like telling someone who's had no food or sleep for 48 hours that solving algebra problems is just simple math. Maybe it is, but if you expect them to do it at the same speed and level as someone who's eaten and slept well, you're probably not going to get great results.

@@paloma3248 It's tough to diagnose, because there's no test to definitively prove you do or don't have it. They ask you questions, and if give the same answers and display characteristics that match other people who have been characterized with the disorder, then they will declare that you have the disorder as well. So since there's no medical test, like it's not going to show on an XRAY or brain scan, etc, it's a matter of having very specialized knowledge to be able to correctly identify if the patient has the disorder, so it doesn't surprise me that a lot of doctors would shy away from diagnosing it.

My favorite part of the living with the ADHD-er puzzle is when they start telling you something or asking a question, but they haven't included you in the conversation they had in their head leading up to it. I have to work out, based on what we've talked about in the last few days what the pronouns in their sentences might be. They've mentally gone through points A-F without me, brought me in at G, now I have to work backwards to figure out what B is.

I howled with laughter throughout. As a woman with ADHD, all the jokes made me feel seen, but the last one hit home so hard. My husband occasionally stutters, and once when he was stuck on a word, I turned it into a rap song and started dancing. He was not happy, and I had to explain that I wasn’t making fun of him, that the sound just triggered that thought, and that’s where my brain went. I felt so bad for doing it, and yet I still laughed until I cried at Drew’s experience.

I once used the word "toward" in the middle of a conversation and my brain noticed it was a weird sounding word, so I started saying it in various ways rather than completing the sentence. @sw33t3t3nity 9 місяців тому
@@gabrieleomaggio1461 first acknowledge your system will have to be changed and updated once in a while, acknowledge & accept you will mess up, allow yourself to forgive your mistakes. Then start. Professionally: I write everything down in one note, have a visual tracking I created (very manual) for my dashboards that need to be created with the checklist inside of it. Then if I have questions I just do it because honestly I need to understand or else my stakeholders won’t get the right products. For personal: I have the “bucket” system. I bought a big enough bucket for all my nail supplies (can place smaller boxes in it) that can be put away. My bathroom has buckets for daily need vs emergency need. Clothes (the whole process) takes a week for me as I try to organize my clothes once a quarter. If it’s something “important” keep it in sight to keep it in mind. I have a trip soon so my calendar is open to it and my bag I’m using for packing is under my table to remind me. These are examples that work for me. Others may have different ways. Also factor in what “mess” you allow yourself to be in and what will cause you to melt down. That’s a big one so I ask my husband for help when I am getting to that point. It’s all about understanding and trying to find what works for you. :)

Wish you could talk to my wife.. she sometimes don't laugh, she just gets mad at me. Depends on how someone laughs "about me" I don't do good with people laughing at me or making fun of me. But it can bother me, and upset me, that my wife is mad at me and it's like.. I can't help it. We've had some big arguments over the years.. it's a wonder to me sometimes why we are together or why she's put up with me this long.. then I think to myself.. it's probably because no other man would put up with her or do as much as I already do for her.

As a teen with ADHD, with two siblings diagnosed with it as well as being on the autism spectrum, and a mom we inherited all this stuff from, this was amazing and we all loved it. The funniest thing is that my dad, who is neurotypical, laughed the loudest and most often. When I was a kid I was diagnosed by my doctor with ADD. ADD and ADHD used to be two sperate diagnoses but after further study, it became more acurate to refer to them as Inatentive ADHD, Hyperactive ADHD, or combined ADHD. Its all the same thing, the differentiation is just based on your symptoms. Just to avoid the spread of misinformation.

Yes! Often, as in my case, the hyperactivity is not visible... It is not physical activity, but rather it is my brain that is hyperactive. It is never not busy, no matter how hard I try, it is impossible for me to "clear my mind". This guy hysterically described a day in the life of me!
