The threshold was carefully set at £750,000 - far more than most people have - and it also excluded main home and pension funds. That's not a wealth tax. That's a "someone else" tax. The joke is that the vast majority of wealth in the Uk is held in main home property and pension funds. Once you exclude those, and most of the leftover wealth by setting the threshold at £750,000....there's very little left to tax! So basically people like th eide aof a wealth tax...but only whe they themselves do not have to pay it.
