Galileo’s reasoning about gravity and falling was stupid. He said that if a light object falls slower than a heavy object, then if you attach them together, the light one will slow the heavy one down, and the heavy one will speed the light one up, which is impossible, therefore they must fall at the same speed. Although his conclusion - that they fall the same speed - is correct, but he’s not correct that it’s impossible to have one thing speeding another up, and the opposite doing the opposite. It’s essentially what a parachute is - the parachute slows down the person, and the person makes the parachute speed up.
