The difference between Halep and Andreescu is in attitude and personality. Halep is down to earth, honest, lovely, she respects her opponents, acknowledges their skills, admits her own mistakes. Andreescu is like Sharapova, too proud and cocky, has that "I am the best" superior attitude, which is not normal for her age. They both play good tennis but Andreescu will loose a lot of her fans with this kind of attitude. No wonder there was no hug at the end. I wouldn't feel like hugging such a person either, sorry.
@flowerpower97414 роки тому
@boxfrotwres You might be right but this time was different. They have the same origins, speak the same language so maybe that's why Romanian fans were expecting a hug. Great expectations...

@amethyst28234 роки тому
Stop it, please! Bianca is a teenager. "I am the best" attitude is actually very normal for the age. (Teenagers' attitudes tend to be very polarized. Some are overconfident, some are extremely shy.) Many people are like that when they are young, ridiculously full of confidence and optimism and hope. She clearly hates to lose, yet she mustered a little smile. It's all good. Don't need to create drama where there is none.

I'm a fan of Andreescu even though Queen Serena is still my favourite. Andreescu is a breath of fresh air and her emergence this year has been a wonderful addition to the WTA, which I believe is undergoing a renaissance after quite a few lean years. HOWEVER.....I'm not convinced Bianca i's the real deal. All those proclamations about her being the new Serena and dominating the women's game in the future is wide off the mark. Too many of the matches she wins are hard won 3 setters. This year as the hunter, she's been able to pull through, now she's the hunted and as the top players get the measure of her game, particularly her vulnerable serve, she's going to find it tough to replicate her amazing breakthrough year IMHO. To reach anywhere near the level of Serena's dominance she should be winning far easier matches. Too many of her matches go the distance and as someone who seems injury prone, I'm not convinced she's set to become a multi-slam winner picking up Serena's mantle as all of Canada seems to believe!
@jefcergos4 роки тому
While she is a great talent and certainly has potential to be a muti slam winner, who in their right mind was dubbing Bianca the next Serena? I've seen people call Naomi that, Bianca not so much. Nobody will be the next Serena. These youngsters need to create their own legacy and the fans need to stop being prisoners of the moment, stop spewing hyperbole filled takes and let these girls live.

Before anything, please know that the full video of this magnificent match can be watched also posted on UKposts, beautifully filmed by Romanian ACASA TV LIVE for the Romanian audience back home, under the title "Simona Halep - Bianca Andreescu". Anybody who enjoys watching great women’s tennis should take a look at this high-quality match between Bianca Andreescu, the 19-year old Canadian/Romanian who beat Serena Williams in the final of the US Open, and Simona Halep, the 29-year old Romanian who beat Serena Williams in the final at Wimbledon. If you've watched both Grand Slam finals involving Serena Williams, the superstar of the past, you can realize immediately after just one or two games in the present match in Shenzhen that the level of play between the two Grand Slam winners, Andreescu and Halep, is markedly one notch higher than in their finals against Serena Williams. Both players seem pretty closely matched here, in spite of the almost 10-year age gap and the huge difference in their experience of play at the very top. The Romanian full-match video (ACASA TV LIVE) betrays its partiality, showing mainly the on-court interventions by Simona's coach, Darren Cahill, with their dialogues (in English) clearly recorded, and very few by Bianca's coach, Sylvain Bruneau. Bruneau is caught by the camera watching the event from his seat in the stands among the group of Bianca's supporters. Bruneau also finds it necessary to come down to give Bianca his own pep talks and pump up her resolve, but most of these interactions are ignored here. How the two girls react to those rapid instructions is not clear. Tto us viewers the two players seem rather slightly irritated, or frustrated. They voice their frustration in response, openly rebelling against the coach's tone of voice and what they sense is the critical attitude of their coaches. It is not clear either whether they can or do really make a positive use of those pieces of instant advice in the heat of the action. All this was before the knee injury Andreescu suffered in her next match that forced her to stop playing and to retire from the tournament, to everybody's huge disappointment. Notice that Bianca is wearing her golden Christian cross necklace, possible as a good-luck token, faithful to her Romanian Catholic background. Whenever she wins a major match, she can be seen very quickly making an unostentatious sign of the Christian cross on her chest, as she did at Indian Wells and at the US Open. Romania is still a traditional Catholic country, and Bianca Andreescu, a Canadian-born citizen, is still faithful to her early Romanian education and parentage. Interestingly, Simona Halep, with the same Romanian Christian tradition, also does a furtive sign of the cross at the end of this match. My favorite, in spite of this Shenzhen loss, remains Bianca Andreescu, who never fails to fascinate me with all the aspects of her remarkable personality on and off the court. Her game is marked by superb athleticism in shot-making and her ferocious amount of power, highly unusual in a 19-year old female player. She always demonstrates excellent tactical sense and most often good finesse in her instant reactions, including her relish for a variety of shots, with the most effective drop shots in female tennis and the fun of some spectacular lob shots. Bianca demonstrates a certain sense of an artistic temperament in tennis, not afraid of taking riks to deliver elegant moves rarely (if ever) seen on a court. Perhaps to escape the boredom of the non-stop baseline slugfest. She plays an aggressive game, willing to finish the point quickly, and coming to the net for a winning volley. In the second set, Bianca even delivers an unusual and very amusing "between-the-legs" shot in the second set, when she is fighting at down 2-4 that proved highly entertaining to the Chinese public. BIANCA AND RESCUE could be an amusing nickname for her. That clownish shot led to her winning the point, whereupon she managed to come back to 4-all and to eventually reach a match point at 6-6 games with 6-6 in the tie-breaker, which she, unfortunately, was unable to concretize. This is the cruelty of tennis. You can reach match point, and still lose the match. It also showcases the unpredictability of the end result and the huge role of chance. The whole match can turn around on one single shot 1/10th of an inch off the line. This is exactly what happened to Andreescu, Halep recovered mentally and physically, reasserted her dominance, playing her way to a final win. Simona Halep, much slimmer and lighter, less powerfully muscled than Bianca, proves that her baseline shot-making is just as good as her opponent's. Very trim and fit, with beautifully sculpted legs, Halep also enjoys the definite advantage of being the fastest-moving player on the female tennis circuit. Her swift sprints from corner to corner, often winning the point with a fabulous shot, are simply awesome. She even incredibly manages to retrieve a few of those otherwise irrecoverable drop shots from Andreescu. In contrast, Bianca, when compared to earlier this year, in Auckland, Acapulco or Indian Wells, seems less willing to go for an all-out sprint to catch the ball, dashing from corner to corner of the baseline, or storming the net. At Indian Wells, Bianca herself explained her success: "I ran like crazy". She was on fire then, ready to engage all her reserve of energy to chase the ball. She even looked a little slimmer there, and mentally more alert. Here, in Shenzhen, she is a bit less fast, more slow-moving, sometimes even looks a shade sleepy, as if losing interest in the point, no longer prodigal of her energy on apparently lost points. Too often, she is not even making a move towards a shot that she too quickly judges lost. As one commentator explained, this is a mistake, you have to extend your racket even if the point seems lost, because you never know what may happen. Bianca is here slightly less sharp, less on her toes, less hungry for the point than when she was earlier in 2019, still a definite underdog. She is here more economical of her energy, less eager to gamble all-out to retrieve an impossible shot. At times one has the impression that she has to shake herself off some sleepy spell. Perhaps she is tired, not sleeping too well in China. Somebody mentioned she might have been on her period. Very possible. Bianca does recognize that she has "good days" and "bad days". It's not clear which one was the case in this match against Simona Halep, a bit of each. Let's note that Bianca has not improved on her sometimes habit of smashing into the net. Truly, in such a balanced contest where skills seem to be fairly equal, the luck of a few critical points does decide the final issue, with the match easily going either way, as if balanced on the fine edge of a knife. This built-in unpredictability remains part of the charm and attraction of a match between two equally gifted players. In any event, this confrontation between two balanced styles is among the very best tennis WTA can offer this year and we are extremely lucky to have it here on UKposts. Looking at the roster of the top female players in the WTA round-robin in Shenzhen, one gets the feeling that Bianca Andreescu seems a bit too plump, too heavy compared to the others. She still is only 19, and has quite some teenage fat to lose. Becoming leaner, slimmer, and wirier, without losing muscle mass and strength, would certainly improve her mobility, especially light-footedness and lateral speed, where Simona Halep demonstrates undeniable superiority. Becoming lighter may also decrease the forces at impact on Andreescu's joints, knee and shoulder, decrease the incidence of injuries and improve her chances of longevity at the top echelon of the game. Too frequent and recurring injuries might shorten her career drastically, as effectively happened right after this match. Bianca has to quit the round robin during her next encounter. Already at this young age, she is forced to skip too many tournaments. Her meditation or visualization model should be more along the lines of Venus Williams rather than Serena Williams.

I’m glad Simona has Darren back in her corner

I think he is overrated. He made Agassi play passive and did the same for Simona before. He only comes back when she's playing well

She’s been adrift since winning Wimbledon and he knows her game. And he understands as she put it her Romanianess 🇷🇴

I think Halep feels like she shouldn't let Darren down..win for him..even more than winning for herself
@edwardhannah4 роки тому
In the WTA tour with male coaches you do see this father/daughter dynamic. Case in point Muguruza and Sumyk. I think Halep is very tough on herself and she carries the burden of always having to represent her country in a positive light. I think she has to some respect let go of her demons and the results are starting to show. I think with Darren being Australian might have rubbed off on her.

@@edwardhannah Muguruza had to dump that Sumyk...that was towards the end, a losing team

Sa-i fie rusine mucoasei Andreescu pt modul cum a reactionat la mingiile castigate!

Comportamentul"ridicol " in fata Simonei m-a lăsat perplexă. Bravo 👏👏👏👏profesionalismului Simonei.

Days like these when you realise how important having a good team backing you up can turn the match around. Streamed this live and all I can say is Simona executed whatever Cahill advised her which eventually got her to win. She did say in the interview he provided a big boost in her confidence like he always does and also that she called him too many times on court so she wasn't allowed to call him more. Simo all the way ❤

They were all Andreescu all the way. Subestimated Halep's mental strenght and ambition
