And hey. Linseed is a really hard thing to use. You have to start it BEFORE you cut the wood. Look .. just use almond oil. You gotta do it once a month .. but the wood likes it. It lets the grains lay down and be happy against the water and salt. I know because I am a wooden flute maker - and almond stops the cracks and keeps the music flowing ;) *edit* don't sand .. run a razor like you shaving to take off the stand-ups .. A razor cut is hydrophobic, sandpaper is hydrophilic. Wood hates being sanded. Then when you oil? The wood and oil work as partners. **

Great job on the tile. Fyi if you use any cloth with that oil remove it from the boat because over a short time it will combust on its own. Many of things and buildings have burned to the ground because of it.

Nicely done but if you would have removed those old tiles you would have a bigger fence to keep that ol salt shaker at home. you make great videos "hey" it's your boat you do it the way you want bro! Safe sailing.

always nice seing you work on your boat, personally I would have removed the tiles, redone the wood and probably used some flexible, UV resistant and natural material instead of housing floor tiles!

Huub, tiles look great unfortunate you didn't replace the wood underneath the tiles and now you are going to have nice tiles that will crack due to the rotten wood underneath. It's equivalent to building a new home on a old junk foundation

Huub has me in stitches I love his format and he is the supreme embodiment of Sisyphus, and this time on the tiles; and you could tell that the rough cut one from the back of the tile leaving a chipped edge would annoy him to distraction and then after he cut all the tiles, spots an overcut on one and he says, 'oh well I have enough tiles even tho you cant see it I will redo it anyway'. I could never live with a guy so sweet and pedantic, but I have watched nearly everyone of his vids binge style recently. So vicariously I have been on board for two months. Very enjoyable and so funny in such a good way. He reminds me of a teddy bear with a pen-is, as the saying goes....

Can’t you find a used stainless steel faucet and sink to match the color of stove, white faucet and sink doesn’t go well with stainless steel stove, also if possible you could replace your static stove with a gimbal stove so that it would be easier for you to cook when the ship sails through a big wave or swell.

I enjoyed seeing you do your kitchen remodel. I am very impressed with your tile cutting skills, especially the way you hold down the tile with your foot while you were cutting it. I also noticed that you were using the blade of a broken tape measure to measure length - waste not, want not. Interesting info about linseed oil. Thanks for sharing.

Hahaha thanks Chuck! Yes indeed, my tape measure is very broken. But ah well, it still works... I learned tile cutting skills when cutting the neck of hundreds of wine bottles when building my cabin!

Look.. Almond oil is second best for treating wood. Walnut oil is the traditional oil. Problem with walnut is it gets rancid and stinks.. So you gotta soak it with some kinda anti-oxidant Like some powder from a vitamin-E tab .. or spit .. or carbon-black (soot). So best way to go for preserving the wooden bits is walnut oil - and flame it. This is tradition. And if you do NOT have tradition? YOU are cut-off from the 200K years of human wisdom. IF you cannot get walnut oil? Get walnuts, wrap them in a cloth, Smash the cloth with a hammer - and rub the cloth on the wood. Easy?

Huub, vriend....if you get a chance to reduce the total weight of your boat...GRAB IT!!!! WTF dude, tiles on a boat? Remove ALL tiles and substitute it with PAINT!!!! You will loose so much weight....and that directly translates to speed of your boat......just saying......Love the vids though!! 🙂

I have to say Huub, Linseed oil really isn’t suited to the marine environment as it has no UV component in it and so yes it will degrade too fast. From my experience so far finishes like Sikkens Cetol marine varnish is a much better, but still economical finish to use on your on deck teak work. It too obviously will degrade over time, but your generally talking about it lasting for up two years. There are a bunch of other finishes out there ie. Le Tonkin oil (the guys on the Tally Ho project are using this), Epiphanes, Deks Olje, International Perfection plus (Interlux) etc etc. It all depends on how much effort you want to put into protecting and enhancing the woodwork on your boat. Good to see some love being given to Limonade. 😁👍
