If you are ever in a rush to dry your boots/socks - keep a couple of dry stones under or on top of your stove (good to just leave them there). Pop them in the wet boot and it will really speed up the drying. Good if you step in water or your boots get really soaked (spring run off). For double drying pop the hot rock in your sock and then put it in the boot. Bonus! Nice warm boots and socks to put on. Excellent tip for hiking/tent camping too!
@drunkvegangal8089

BTW, wet rocks crack, splinter and can explode, so, safety first.

Sand works best. It absorbs water. Put it in a can or pot to heat up. Pour it into the wet boots. Leave for a while, then repeat.

@@brianwbid Do you think Alex could find some sand around his dugout home? :D :D Seriously though wouldn't sand make the inside of your boots dirty and gritty? Have you actually tried this sand in your socks and boots method? Perhaps it is more effective despite the dirt and grit?

My boss and I spent Thanksgiving with his family, we have adopted each other and have become a kind of family together. While his daughter finished cooking, he and I built a fire and sat sipping whisky and talking about blacksmithing and life. Every video in your new dugout makes me think of the times I spend with them. The simple peace and togetherness, sharing warmth and good food. No matter how small or simple, your dugouts are a!l HOMES, places of peace and happiness. No matter how bad or tough my day has been, a video from you is a ray of happiness, never change Alex, you show us all a simple and joyful way of living!

Oh, man, Alex, this is what we've all been waiting for: a wintery day with SNOW! It looks so snug tucked in in its white blanket. I could almost smell that meal you made. Show the thermometer in there on these kinds of days! It will ready add to the feel of being there. This one is so far beyond your last shelter it's hard to even compare. Keep up the fantastic work!
