Aho bachu! My kids from class got bored over the summer and sent me this link to help you out. 😂 I am a registered Quileute (kwil-ute) and decedent of the Duwamish tribe. I teach on 2 seperate reservations. I graduated from UW in Indigenous history and sociology. Before I start, it's a wild misconception that coastal salish is a group of ppl but only if we are listening to the government and settlers. Coastal Salish is a language group for trade. Each individual tribe, now matter how small, had a separate language. It's something you don't of often in a small area. This is why we have so many names. This is why "Sasquatch" stuck. It was from a trade language used to trade with settlers. From the top - Hoquium (ho-kwi-yum) Salish (say-lish) Chinook (shinuk) Chahalis (shi-hay-less) Se'sxac (say-sak) with a gutteral sound and tongue click. Skuwak sounded good 👍 Musqueam (mus-kwee-um) The Lumi wouldn't be able to pass the history of a Wildman looking like a monkey because monkeys were never indigenous here. I am ONLY speaking from a place of clarification from PNW native tribes. No where else. "Se'sxac" is obviously not real and a child's story. For proof? Go look at our oldest totem poles. These were erected along our millions of waterways, marking a tribes land or clans land. All of our clans are named of animals. 2 legged or 4 legged beings. Mine is the wolf, grandma was from the beaver clan, etc. These animals are represented in nearly ALL of our art works that we collectively call "haida art". You will not ever find a mythical creature of any kind in these traditional pieces that have been saved. It's that simple. All the variations are retold to tailor make for individual kids. A warning to stay in camp at night for our kids. I degree now. Another thing to keep in mind is that we, as a people, are actually very tall. Chief Se'ntl (you call him Seattle) was over 6 feet tall, I'm 5'10", this is fairly tall. Even many of ancestors remains were tall. We hid ourselves amongst the trees, our safe havens. It could be easy for other tribes and settlers to be unnerved about stories then see natives staring within the treelines. Historically speaking, you won't find many natives to talk to non natives about our stories and histories due to the obvious. We are working on this though...I am on a board of preservations for our history and stories. We are cataloging these online and they are called "Ravens Tales". Which is our traditional lesson names. A good way to spot lies or "colonized myths" amongst PNW natives is to infer any kind of religious diety. It's a misconception amongst many North American tribes that we pay homage to creator or diety. Ancestors yes, myths no. This is so long, I am determined to get our real legends out, teach our cultures and languages because we are a dying ppl as we speak. With blood quantum being introduced, our tribes are literally going extinct. Chief Seattle was Duwamish and they "no longer exist", the Chinook tribe was also stripped of federal recognition. The Quileute have a bit over 2000 people. I feel driven to get the stories straight before we are gone. We need non natives, we need you to be well informed and it is free. No charge. We might surprise you, we are unique. Our borders are normally open, our wood workshops and basket workshops are open to all. Me and my friend were going to work in 1988 Central Florida and four of them crossed the road right in front of the vehicle there was one Large male he was over 7 half feet the other three possibly female possibly male I saw them walk in front but I got a good look at the big guy gigantic jaw not barrel chested but not super muscular kind of lanky maybe 500 to 600 lb I am no anthropologist or scientist but the closest I can find in the fossil record is dryopithecus .later that day on the return trip home we stopped at the same location and I found where they came out of a ditch way. I have traveled extensively in my life been to all the lower 48 states and Alaska Northern caribou in Canada and I've never seen anything like it since then or after.

If you read the Ostman account more carefully, you'll see he does say he was kept as a prisoner by the father and that when he tried to escape through the one opening in this enclosure, he was blocked and not allowed to leave. Ostman describes how he deliberately played up the joy of chewing his snuff to get the father to gulp it down, and then used the disorientation and distraction of the father's plight to escape.

Look at the detail of the creature in the patterson video, then watch planet of the apes. How can a broke cowboy produce a monkey suit that puts the ones on planet of the apes to shame? I enjoy the stories and trying to debunk or question the motive of the storyteller. I started listening to “The Sasquatch Chronicles” on youtube a few years ago. Entertaining stories, In many cases, one hear the fear in peoples voices and some of the detail they would describe…..the vast majority of people apparently have no financial motive. Fascinating. I used to mock bigfoot enthusiasts but now i think i’m one of them lol.

Hello. I have grown up in the North West. I grew up hunting and camping. I have been a wilderness survivalist for over 20 years. I spend as much time as I can in the woods. I sleep on a cot and under a tarp. all year. sun, sideways rain and the snow. I am 50 years old. I have one story. late one night. I woke to what is called Samurai speak. I had my pistol in my hand and heard it for just a few seconds. That is not proff but made me think maybe. 35 years of wilderness experience in the deep woods. My uncle was with me at the time. He's a prolific hunter and he also heard it. He is a bigfoot believer and was excited as hell. The next morning we looked for tracks and found nothing. So take it as you will. That is my story. I know animal sounds and never heard anything like that. Thanks for your show it was fun.

I was really hoping you would get into the comparative mythology of Bigfoot. Basically, EVERY culture is almost certain to have stories about creatures that are somehow halfway between humans and wild animals -- and also stories about creatures that are halfway between humans and birds, between humans and fish, and between humans and gods, just like every culture is almost certain to have ghost stories and stories about magic.

It astonishes me how many people don’t know how much of the forestland in North America is still untouched by humanity.

My family has had multiple encounters at our camp in the middle of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. A couple of sightings, a footprint, a couple of trees snapped at a very high points making an X and a handful of screams have been witnessed by my family in the last 15 years or so.

There have been bigfoot sightings here in Tennessee and in North Carolina (Apalachian Mountains) also, which is farther east than Arkansas, just saying.

You guys should do an episode just on Native American mythology and legends that would be dope, especially with your thoroughness in research

Pretty sure l heard the sound of a Bigfoot wailing back in the 80's when l was a teen. I'll never forget the sound of it. I lived in Southern Ontario near the Escarpment. For anyone interested in the sightings of Bigfoot, especially around the globe, Yowiehunters Witness Reports documents audio reports on Bigfoot encounters in Australia. There ever growing cases and signs in the Australian bush is quite facilitating, even to non-believers. Many different Indigenous clans are often well familiar with the Yowie, sharing stories and passed down emotions of their ancestors relationship with Yowies before colonisation.

If you want to do a Native mythology, take a look at the creation of the Haudenosenee Great League, with the three main participants-The Peacemaker, Ayanawatha (Hiawatha) and Tadodaho. That mythology is the basis of politics within the People of the Longhouse, and was vital to the real world diplomacy the League conducted with other native nations and Europeans, a political sophistication that made the Haudenosenee able to play the great game with the French and British on an equal footing for the entire 17th and 18th centuries, and even today. Of all the Northeast nations, the Haudenosenee were not removed from their lands and eventually ended up in Oklahoma, like their neighbors the Lenape, Shawnee, or Cherokee. It is a mythology that has real world ramifications.

They are seen in Alaska quite often so it is further north tha BC Canada.

Fun fact, in washington state it is illegal to kill bigfoot!

There are a lot of motion sensitive trail cams in the US running 24/7, that you can monitor online. My state even has a web site for volunteers to sort the pictures based on which animals appear in them. You could hardly wish for a better system for detecting sasquatches.

This was Nice guys, thanks, it took me through a 30 mile bike ride, the woods in southern France don't even have regularfoot but it was good to fill them with your story accounts.

Over the last five months, I have become convinced that Bigfoot - _Bigfeet?_ are real.

I live in the PNW and it's so much fun to stop by all the bigfoot museums, there are a lot of little ones scattered throughout the wilderness with giant bigfoot statues galore. I think most people (even the ones running the museums) find it comical, not convincing.

I had Big Foot running alongside the car driving north in AZ toward Pine. He was just in the tree-line without underbrush 50 ft from the car, and he kept up with me until the hwy turned me away.

“And who would that creature be Charles?” “Exactly.” 😂

Only just found your channel and im glad I did! Regarding sasquatch the Patterson film still does it for me. I don't know if he filmed a Bigfoot, a deformed human or even a flying saucer pilot, but nothing will ever convince me that it's a guy in a costume. It just wasn't possible to make one like that in 1967.

I saw one in Boone county West Virginia about 15-20 years ago he was about 10ft tall maybe even taller

Awe man it feels like you should have read more of John Green's work on his early search i north California and investigations into a lot of the early stories you mentioned, he provides a lot more detail and independent information disconnected from the ray wallace debackle and more context on the Ostman story from an interview with him.

I'm only about 1/3 of the way through this, and I'm enjoying it, but one thing I'd like to point out: Most Native American accounts of Sasquatch, with a few notable exceptions, have them as simply large, hairy humans..meaning of human intelligence, and if a giant primate/gorilla existed in the PNW of America, it would have absolutely been found, killed and/or captured by now, but if it were say, a tribe of Natives, they WOULD be seen occasionally, but if they kept moving, and made it a point to be undetected, they could remain undetected if they traveled one at a time, and only in remote areas at night. Also: re: the skeletons/remains of them, Salish legends have them damming up a river, (or alternately, digging into a beach at low tide) and burying their dead, so the waters will run back over the site. Another tale is that they will either find a large hollow tree, or hollow one out themselves, and place the dead in it, then covering the hole in the tree up with bark, sap and soil to 'heal' it, even grafting branches onto the 'skin' of the hole..AND recently a huge skeleton was allegedly found inside a tree that was cut down..interesting when the tales the Natives told were hundreds of years ago.

'Skeptics' in the woods are rarer than Bigfoot! Haha

Gotta say there are different colloquialisms of hairy man ape. FL has the Skunk Ape and AL has the Swamp Ape. So yeah, a sighting in every state is very possible.

This video is so relaxing yet engaging which is a hard combination to achieve.

I live in central Oregon and have a great fondness for all the Bigfoot imagery I see around the place, like pedestrian crossing signs with the Patterson/Gimlin silhouette instead of the normal little dude, the Oregonian Crossing signs where he's walking his dog, the occasional "Sasquatch Parking Only." Whenever there's some piece of art meant to depict the people of our town/area, he's usually there in the crowd or the background somewhere, and it amuses me every time. There's a statue at our county events center of "Beerfoot," just chillin with a cold one, and a sports mascot named Legend the Bigfoot (someone stole his head recently because some jerk always has to ruin the fun for everybody). At least locally, he's definitely seen as a symbol of the outdoorsy, offbeat, kinda crunchy, progressive and environmentalist vibe that characterizes the area.

Now I really want to re read “city of the beasts” again. Great video as always!

I'm from and live in the NW about an hour or so from Leeds I've never seen one of these creatures but I have had a few paranormal experiences and I know they were real experiences not something I misunderstood or was just my eyes playing tricks anyway I've listened to a lot of encounter stories told by the folk that have experienced the unusual in the woods/forests/ national parks and you can just tell they are not lying about their encounter you can hear either the fear or the wonder in their voice's I believe

Are't you guys aware there that are many reported sighting in the UK of a hairy Manlike being which can be described variously as a relict hominid or at the very least a hominoid? There also many reports in Europe and truck loads in Russia and Asia. The American Indians have had sightings of them way before the 1700's by the way, and they have a complex cultural code related to how contact with these entities should be approached.

No examination of Bigfoot would be complete without visiting the UKposts channel Parabreakdown. Phil Poling is like a detective who examines Bigfoot videos, of which there must be millions! All blurry and inconclusive! What is interesting about Bigfoot is how nearly universal it is! You mentioned, humorously, sightings in Hawaii. The fact that it is reported in the eastern United States is testament to the fact that this is a psychological not zoological phenomenon. It is ranging all across the US and nobody has ever hit one with a car on a highway, or shot one? But the myth gets bigger. It is worldwide! And it goes far back into history. In Britain you had the Green Man, right? He was covered with leaves not fur, but otherwise he fit the image of the Bigfoot. All over the world, any place with a forest has an wild man tradition. And never any crumb of hard evidence. The fact that no carcasses have ever been found, anywhere, is the biggest strike against Bigfoot being a real animal. But think of how much money such a creature would be worth, and you have the second biggest strike. Conclusive evidence on Bigfoot would be worth a mountain of money. If it was real, people would have gone out and found one long before now. Bigfoot remains fascinating as a product of mass-psychology. Considering its world-wide appeal, what does it symbolize to the mind that makes it so absorbing to so many?

Imagine if someone caught a Sasquatch after all these years and it turned out they all had tiny dainty lady feet.

My pops is a hunter. He buries or hangs in trees any of his supplies. If the gentleman that thought it was porcupines taking his stuff may not have known. At the same time, I feel like it would be well known knowledge for someone always outside and camping.

I had commented a few months ago regarding current Bigfoot sightings. I must add another comment as I listened to this again. Your research provides so many other unusual creatures I had never heard of before, along with your primary source references. I can't wait until I have the time to read your source material. I am particularly intrigued by your discussion of the unusual creatures of the Iroquois nation. I spent my childhood (since I was nine y/o) wandering miles of forests where I had found old "homesteads" with gardens still producing vegetables and their grave sites which I will take to my own grave near there! Fortunately, I never encountered the creatures you discussed which are much scarier than a Bigfoot.. However, there are many locations of the "lien-to's" every summer which resemble those of Bigfoot. I must give you credit for your discussion in the first two hours of the "mythical" creatures and the rituals used to control such malevolent behaviour! Les Stroud has some nice Bigfoot stuff on his channel. Interviews with people who have supposedly seen or heard them and a documentary series as well as recounting his own experience that he couldn't explain as simply being a bear.

I grew up on the edge of society in Washington State. They are real. They are not Apes. They are Natives. They are different from you and I, my people have the highest respect for them. They also have spiritual abilities we do not. Take that for what it is. If you want to know what they are, you won't find that answer on a bigfoot television show. You have to talk to the people who know them. Good job fellas. I respect your respect for the Native side of this. It is the only side that understands this at all.

One day my friend was in the woods hiking. He heard some brush moving. He hid behind a rock pile. Stopped and seen a deer coming through the brush. It was acting weird. Then a BIGFOOT come through the brush following the deer. BIGFOOT was carrying a big branch in his hand. BIGFOOT caught up with the deer and broke two of the deer's legs with the branch. Then BIGFOOT grabbed the deer by the neck and broke its neck. Then BIGFOOT seen my friend and flipped him off. Grabbed the deer and threw the deer over its shoulder and ran off.

Maybe not a movie but my friend actually did get an airbush shirt of Bigfoot in a Hawaiian shirt and holding margarita. So you're not far off on Hawaiian bigfoot memorabilia existing
