The Wild West Extravaganza

3 роки тому

Bill Tilghman - the legendary lawman best known for hunting down bad guys in Indian Territory - got his start as a teenage buffalo hunter on the Kansas frontier. After that, he spent years patrolling the tough streets of Dodge City with the likes of Wyatt Earp, Bat Masterson, and Charlie Bassett before moving on to Oklahoma where he did more of the same. Friends with guys like Luke Short and Doc Holliday. Rubbed shoulders with outlaws like Dave Rudabaugh and J.J. Webb, Tilghman wore many hats throughout his life. Senator, husband, father, scout, rancher, saloon owner, movie producer, actor, and then finally - at the ripe old age of 70 - Tilghman pinned on a badge yet again to take on the corrupt boom town of Cromwell, Oklahoma. #wildwest #cowboy #history

I lived in New Mexico and worked building chain restaurants and BIA houses on virtually every reservation in most all the of the state and having a keen interest in the local history know you are doing a very good job of relating it. I worked with a latino older fellow whose great grandfather was a member of the Silva gang which hung out with Billy for a period of time. Keep up the good work.

FWIW, I started listening a year ago because your early episodes were raw and it felt like listening to a buddy tell stories. I never listen to any other old west podcasts. I know finding greater success means refining your work. But, don't be embarrassed by the older stuff as that's why some of us are here.

The best Okie land rush film, Cimarron 1931. Love the old films. They were closest to actual happening. Won Academy Award that year. Great rush scene and the hero is a man, with' feet of clay'. A Western aficionado, such as yourself, should watch. Good gunplay. Mark D.

My grandma's father a widower married one of her school friends and we all knew her as our great gran Rose and she was 3 months younger than my grandma they born in 1896. It's no Dynamite Dick but it's got some double entendre potential. I checked out the Legends of the Old West podcast thanks for the recommended it's a hell of a show. Also I would recommend doing an episode on Henry Berry Lowry. He is said to be a Robin Hood type bandit that fought the Confederates. Finally it would be great to see you do those episodes again. They arent horrible as you think but you are right, your new stuff is a lot better. So i think i bunch of people would like those again. Hope everything is going good on your end.

I don't think it would be fair to judge these men by todays' standards. These were tough men in tough and tumble times. Quite a few of the lawmen at one time or another were outlaws and some lawmen became outright outlaws. One might say there was a larger gray area back in the day. At any rate , these men were bad asses that dispensed justice and upheld the law, and for the most part , commanded the respect of friend and foe alike.

So I went back and I tried to find some info (other than Wikipedia) and I did find an article in TrueWest that also states that her killer, James H. "Dog" Kelley did survive the arrest and was later freed on "lack of evidence". HistoryNet also makes the same claim. Who knows...

Most of the “lawmen” of the frontier were just hired guns. Wyatt Earp would be a lawman in one town and a saloon bouncer/brothel security in the next. Here in Wichita, he spent much of his time on the west side of the river, where the “red-light district” was. I wonder if lawmen, in their heart-of-hearts are any different today. In Wichita occasionally a cop or deputy gets entangled with a “soiled dove” and gets disciplined or outright fired, even today. To quote the song, “same as it ever was, same as it ever was…” TALKING HEADS-‘1983”

Best years I think would be between the 50s through to about the 90s. Safest for people to just live. Medical up to par enough to live without a lot of worry. Minimal war happened in that time that effected the world population.. not world War. Cost of living was acceptable. People were basically normal and good to live life to the best they could. Before the 50s it was world wars and rough life in comparison . After the 90s this kinda life started as we know it now. I'm born in the 70s so I got to experience the last of the good times in history. We had everything we needed. Food was good and normal. Could afford to buy a home. Could afford rent. All that stuff. So. The best years for humanity at least in North America was in my opinion between the 1950s and to about the 1990s. Before and after that we can't call good. Or acceptable. We need to kinda go back to around the 80s ways .. not the clothes.. just the ways we all were. I will say again. Not the clothes..

@WildWestExtravaganza hahaha well back in the 50s and 60s clothes were OK and classy. But my lord I looked like a bum dressed in the 80s and 90s lol. I know there are a lot of females that think the pants that cover all the way up to the middle of th stomach looks good but it doesn't. And for fuk sake can ypu imagine the shoulder pads again. I'm OK with jeans and a t shirt. Basics lol. But now it's I don't even understand what happened. Where did we go wrong. Look at the way people dress now. I can't say there's a better time then the 50s and 60s. Maybe before then. 20s 30s lol. I'm just saying ..

Speaking of long lived , or at least your prodigy, John Henry Tyler, 10th president of the United states, and born in 1790, still has a grandson who, s alive, while in the white house, John's first wife died, and he married Julia Gardiner, a much younger woman, about the age of his then children, he later had children with her as well, while I wouldn't suggest doing a podcast on John, it's a fascinating story, , he never should have been president, as he was the vice president a largely symbolic position at the time, but , I believe it was Harrison died shortly in this turm, and Tyler became president, Julia was a socialite and and one of the most beautiful women of the time and had a scandalous reputation, because she had allowed her picture to be on some advertising,
