Live audio engineer here! (Well, not Billie's, just another audio guy. :) It's not the mic. A voice like Billie's is incredibly difficult to capture live: at the end of the day, she's a pretty quiet singer. Studio environments have it easy: you can just make the environment quieter than the voice and stick whatever mic you like up. Chuck the singer in an isolated booth, even. On a live stage, you don't get that luxury: your singer is surrounded by loud things. The drums. Amplifiers. The crowd...oh yeah, and that giant PA we put up there to intentionally be loud! Even a directional mic captures sound from many directions - look up "microphone polar patterns" to learn more. In order to capture the voice of a quiet singer who's probably somewhat out of breath from jumping around and touring a bunch, you need a microphone that is not just articulate, but also very directional. Billie actually uses a mic that's one of the best I've found for this purpose: the V7 by sE Electronics. It can't work miracles, but it's a fantastic microphone. In short: Billie uses a fantastic live mic - it sounds different, but that's not the issue. The bigger problem: you've got a quiet singer surrounded by loud things, so it's a struggle to capture more voice than background noise. In a studio, you can get better isolation and a better performance, which makes for a vastly better recording.

Because her singing on this video is weak. I don't want to be negative. I'm just disappointed. She's better on the last song, but still...

@@alwaysuseless she was too chill and confortable on that sofa that’s it 😂 and so she is singing in a relaxed way .. thats why .. but she made a vibrato and sound with the voice when she closes the notes and the letters which is very nice here and unique you can hear more her unique voice here even if she was very chill
