John Paul DeJoria is a rare breed of entrepreneur: equal parts gritty resourcefulness and deep compassion, his early days of door to door sales in Los Angeles taught him to welcome rejection as a close friend. It was this mindset that ultimately helped him launch the hugely successful Paul Mitchell hair care line on just a hope and a prayer. Since building the Paul Mitchell empire, he’s since followed it with more hits, including the wildly popular Patron Tequila, all while enjoying extremely low employee turnover rates at his companies. In this episode of Impact Theory with Tom Bilyeu, John Paul DeJoria talks about life lessons that have shaped him, from his hard knock early years to becoming one of the world’s biggest and most respected entrepreneurs.

Munger and Buffett have both achieved an incredible feat with Berkshire. They've turned thousands to billions, and have made a lot of people wealthy in the process. I really saw the potential of the stock market by reading Berkshire's annual letters. I recently sold my $674k apartment in the Bel Air area and I'm hoping to throw it into the stock market. I just don't want to lose everything.

Most newbies either do not understand the power of compound interest, or are just impatient. For the average Joe, however, I think it is just best to invest in the S&P 500, and just wait, which is reliable, albeit extremely long-- lots of years. Or just use a professional analyst and speed up wealth creation. Most people underestimate the power of the latter.

John Paul has one of the biggest hearts I've ever seen. There was so much I got out of this interview. It's inspiring that he went from selling encyclopedias door-to-door and collecting pop bottles to recycle, to building his powerful list of worldwide brands. Here are just a few things he said that I'll remember forever: - "You must be just enthusiastic on door 101 as on door 1." - "Be prepared for a lot of rejection." - "Always make sure that your product or service is of the highest quality you could ever make it. Because you do not want to be in the selling business, you want to be in the re-order business." - "You have to believe what your doing is going to help somebody and learn as you go." - "Successful people do what unsuccessful people don't want to do." - "When the goings tough, the tough get going. One more door, one more smile." - "If I had not worked at all 3 companies, it would have been impossible to start John Paul Mitchell. Each company was a stepping stone to my success." - "Take care of the people." - "In life, whenever you can do something for somebody else and ask nothing in return, not even a thank you, you'll get the highest high you'll ever get in life." - "4 P's. People, Product, be Positive, and Help the Planet." - "Success unshared is failure." What a truly amazing man! I will definitely be watching "Good Fortune." We should all honor him by following in his footsteps and become something great while changing the world doing it.

I remember going to a hair salon back in the mid-'80s at a place called John Jay hair salon In Metairie, LA at Lakeside shopping mall which sold many John Paul Mitchell hair products like hair gels. I remember buying them and using them for many years thinking they were great products. John is a great guy from a humble beginning and with honor and decency. I learned a lot just by watching this video and applying his teaching to my life. Thank you, John!!

I especially like that he wants his products to be the highest quality. It's easy to make money. To make money because the product is good is separate. With a good attitude and integrity on top of that? Wow. Thanks for the video.

What a wonderful man-a wise and caring father figure for everyone. It's nice to hear being decent can also make money. The world, and especially this country needs to hear his philosophy of being a kind and reasonable person-that is true intelligence. Caring about his employees and treating them with respect (like sentient beings) is a good reminder for corporate America bc being greedy and saving the top few while sacrificing everyone else is not right. Basic laws of Karma. I also love how he puts it right by saying people in charge are supposed to set the example of how to lead by collaborating with the group rather than just being bossy with an inflated ego that only serves to make everything stressful and low vibrational. He walks his talk and he is a refreshing example of what we need to aspire to. Thank you! 🙏🌈
