I still have not finished watching the video, and couldn’t wait to subscribe for more n63 content, as I gather the motivation to replace the HPFP on my 2011 X5. I can’t wait to review more of your videos, as I love this vehicle. I am up to 220K miles (yup, 353,000km), and it was running like a top until one of the two high pressure started going bad, so I need to replace both of them. Anyway, thanks for the video, and greetings from Arizona, USA.

I have a 2013 X5M at 174k+ km, and running strong getting 19mpg....under 120km/hr. I had to replace the CCV stuff, ignition/spark, rear suspension airbags/air block and coolant reservoir; fortunately no fuel injectors but there is some . Keep the engine cover off to keep from baking all the coolant and CCV lines, change oil every 5-6k miles, trans fluid/filter every 40k, and ignition & spark plugs every 20k

@dnl35projects Рік тому
Hi, I'm about to make a video about this very same question but at 270k kms I'd say the best thing to do if you want to keep the car for long is to drop the engine and rebuild it. (if it hasn't been done). The Rod bearings and main bearing on this engine (in the video) have 162.000kms and they were OK (a little wear but OK) - When I did the bearings on my M5 it had 140.000kms and were completely destroyed. If the previous owner did not abuse the car and always waited for correct oil temp before driving it hard your bearings could be good still (considering you are also looking after the engine and changing oil frequently)

Hi, you’re correct - timing the engine is exactly that, aligning the crankshaft correctly with the cams so they are synchronised. If you’re engine is out of timing the valves could open at the wrong time and destroy the engine. Both S63 and N63 engines have timing marks however I highly recommend using the correct tool to do this job. I’m yet to make a video but there are a few vids on UKposts showing how to do it.

Hi! Couple weeks ago I have completely rebuild my engine - new bearings, piston rings, timing chain, oil pump, cylinder heads were resurfaced etc. it had 295 000 km so it was good moment to do this. After rebuild, first 500km engine was treated very gentle and after those 500km I changed oil + filter, oil of course wasn't looking perfect and there were very small rasping. Next 1000km engine was treated a little more hard but still not more than 3500 - 4000 rpm and never full throttle. This weekend I have changed oil again - after those 1000km it's still not looking perfect. Do you think it's normal? Engine run perfect. Maybe 1500km it's still not enough for all parts to "fit" ? How oil was looking in your car?

@dnl35projects
@dnl35projects 7 місяців тому
It's very hard to say since that will vary a lot but if proper maintenance is done along with frequent oil changes, the engine block itself should outlast the car easily. There are several cars with ALUSIL blocks going over 400k kms, the only downside is that the S63 /N63 engines have gaskets and seals that don't last much more than 100-150k kms so thats when the engine should get its first rebuild in my opinion.

@dnl35projects
@dnl35projects 15 днів тому
Timing chain wear on the F85 is not as bad as in the E70 but still cannot be ignored. There is a way of checking how stretched the chains are it by inspecting the tensioners (small lid behind the intercoolers) however if you want to replace the chain is definitely an engine-out job and rebuild. basically there is no way to replace the chains without removing the timing cover and in order to do so, you first have to remove the sump and the engine heads to be able to remove/install the timing cover.

Hi Peter, the cylinders 2 and 5 had deep marks on the walls and sleeving the block was my best option. No shops in Australia would do the Alusil block and the cost of it would outweigh the benefits. Good Day, I have a question I recently bought a 2013 X5M LCI with 110000km on it. The issue I’m having is a abit mind boggling as know1 can give me a definitive as to what could be the issue. So I’m currently getting a cylinder 6 misfire continuously and the following steps were taken. 1) Changed plug 2) Swopped coil around 3) Changed injector Still got a misfire, I then did a compression test and it seems to be within reason which was around 150psi or 10 bar pressure. It’s very selective in the fault cause when the vehicle is cold car drives perfect no misfires engine is smooth and no issues, only when it gets to optimum operating temperature then the misfire appears. As to my knowledge if it was the piston rings, piston or anything else it will be from start whether cold or not. Your assistance will be highly appreciated. Arshad Osman (South Africa)

Hi, although it’s a bit hard to diagnose it without seeing the car you have followed the right steps in swapping the coils and injectors. It seems like a wiring/electrical issues of some sort so I’d check the connectors and wires for both injector and coil (on Cyl. 6) Basically when your engine warms up the signals sent to the injectors and coils will change and if there’s a weak point or bad connection the misfire could occur. There could also be an issues with the ECU (like a partially burnt injector controller) but I doubt it because as you said, the car runs fine when cold.
