Very old video..is carwow running out of content?

The Lexus did all the tests spewing coolant and overheating so the last engine test wasn't necessarily representative.

Hell yeah! I was getting a bit tired of the non stop drag races. Need some more of the offroad hijinks, stress testing to destruction, and other shenanigans kinds of videos please!

Old video or not, Matt and the crew are starting to do what the golden era of Top Gear did. Have fun with cars and entertain! Plus we learn about the cars along the way. Great job, it’s been a long time since we rock and rolled.

I'm not a Lexus fanboy, but if all had been maintained according to schedule, I'd choose the Lexus. I wouldn't choose any if they've been run on a shoestring, because they can all be ruinously expensive to maintain properly, particularly if they need a suspension refresh. The LS 430 is not without its problems, but would be my choice out of the three to keep going if the maintenance has been kept on top of...and it can be afforded to keep on top of it. Of course, there are other large luxury cars of similar vintage that are cheap to buy. One of them is the X350 Jaguar XJ, which is also a heavy car with air suspension, but IMO, if you wanted to try to run an old luxury car on a shoestring, your best bet would be the Jag. The Jag's classic styling is also a reason to own one, other than the price, whereas I don't think many people would choose the W220 S Class, E65 7 Series, or LS 430 for their styling. However, IMO the LS 430 is the only choice if one wants to champion the engineering and try to keep such as car going long-term. It's not inexpensive to maintain, and there are various problems, but the engine has proven durability and longevity. And a 430 is a very well-built car made of generally good quality components and materials. All of these cars have electronic components that can make them ruinously expensive to maintain and/or are challenging to source. I think the LS 430 belongs to the latter category. Whereas I think something like a W12 VW Phaeton definitely belongs to the former category, as well as being particularly difficult and therefore particularly expensive to work on. It's also worth bearing in mind that all of this generation of cars include some plastic mechanical/engine components, which isn't good going forward. The E65 7 Series has a particularly bad reputation in this regard, as well as for problematic electronics, and the interior is also full of tech ready to fail at any time. I don't think the W220 S Class is as bad as you may expect, but they are from the worst period in Mercedes history in terms of build quality. My choice of an early-mid 2000s large luxury car would probably be limited to either the LS 430 or an X350 Jaguar XJ. But I'd steer well clear of the cheapest examples.

I'm not complaining or anything but why has Carwow uploaded an episode which is actually just 4 older episodes merged into a long video/episode? Were there no reviews, drag races, off-road challenges or comparisons ready for uploading this week or.....?🤷‍♂️ Either way, it's always good to see Mat thoroughly "testing" cars🙈😂 Carwow and Mat definitely always deliver when it comes to content though, I must say. Definitely my favorite motoring channel by a country mile😊

I just sold my 745i in Australia. Beautiful car, but every time I drove it I was worried something might break and break me. Champaign taste on a beer budget. Also in Australia, the rego for 12 months was $1200 compared to 450 for a 4-cylinder.

I thought I recognised Taylor's unit! That BMW really does look like it was designed in a different era to the other two, beautiful cars even today, IMO.

you should mention the tyres on brake tests and try and get the same for all vehicles

Although this is an old video, it does show that, considering the Lexus completed all the off road tests on more or less the same course you use for the SUV’s… in future, you really need to make the SUV off road tests, a bit more “testing and difficult” for the actual “off road” type cars.. 😂

Drove my first new M5 from era. Belonged to a friend, I was rather impressed when comparing it to my new special ordered Lexus IS300. While the IS300 had beautiful design elements such as the Rolex like instrument cluster, a great shifter, good handling and felt rather lightweight. My friends M5 felt like a tank, in a good way, very solid feeling doors, impressive interior in it's own right, beautiful exterior, the massive separator was the power and performance. That M5 V10 made the 2JZ 6cyl IS300 feel as slow as a Civic, lol

A bit of old school top gear (interior gunk testing) with new school carwow (no oil engine torture test) and it's great.

The inerior in that s class is brilliant. Insall a Nice andoid hed unit in to that, youll have all thre nav and enfotainment the driver will need. And you'll be able to run netflix yt etc on the rear screns from it. I really like that interior.

I would go for lexus,even if the body rusts away you have a great motor to slot into something else

The S320 has a 3.2-liter V6 engine only?! That's the right engine for Mercedes C class, not anything heavier than that. My C320 Benz has that engine.

Why didn't they show the BMW's oil drain? They only showed the Lexus one. Being a mechanical engineer, I highly doubt a BMW engine won't die before the Lexus.
