Easily one of the most popular ways to pass the guard, at least in no gi grappling, is the body lock pass. In this video, I break down the steps and details, which will hopefully simplify the process of body lock passing and help everyone implement this strategy more effectively into their game.
Hope you like it!

this is probably 1 of my favorite passes pretty effective on just about everyone I do it on except my coach. he has a very strong omoplata/arm lock combination on the arm opposite side of passing. his leg that is free to the non passing side will come up and do a tight high clamp behind the arm pit/shoulder trapping the arm giving him the option of omoplata or armlock depending on my reaction

At 2:30 you adressed a big mistake I was doing, just noted now and I would say it´s one of the most common problems people face when they started to play with this pass. Thanks for sharing, bodylock is technical, believe it or not.
@KnightJiuJitsu
@KnightJiuJitsu 11 місяців тому
I agree. It’s way more of a technical move than it initially appears.

I'm in the GI 95% of the time, but will definitely be attempting this the next time I find myself in the ideal setup for it. Also: green. It's the only color that's warm in winter, and cool in summer. 🤙

I've drilled and tried the bodylock pass before. It's hot or miss with me but a great tool. Keeping the opponents leg and knee pinned down is a detail I may have missed. If I'm on bottom, a black belt told me a baseball bat choke can be used as a counter to being passed. Thank you

One of the thing that I learned and I think is important to add is when entering for a body lock you always need to get your opponent to base to get the inside position, otherwise you'll just get arm dragged or something

Hyped, Ive been working bodylock passing since Nicky's match with Pena. Works so well that as a white belt, pretty much only the black belts have been able to stop it. Love the idea of baiting the closed guard opening.

I love this pass. For some reason, when i do this pass, i don't get deep underhooks, but, I keep my hands glued to his sides. Also, sometimes, ill reach around with my far hand and grab the top of the foot. When im on the receiving end, ive discovered that i can atill butterfly sweet with the hook across the waistline.
@KnightJiuJitsu
@KnightJiuJitsu 11 місяців тому
I understand both those issues, and definitely agree. It can definitely be done without connecting the hands, but it’s still better I think if you can get that grip. And grabbing the foot is definitely a good addition to make it even more solid and avoid the sweep. Thanks!

Hi, When you do the initial "kick back" with your right leg, how do you prevent (or deal with) if they follow your leg with a butterfly hook? That's the most common issue I have whenever attempting this pass.
@KnightJiuJitsu
@KnightJiuJitsu 11 місяців тому
If the body lock and shoulder pressure are on point, the butterfly hook shouldn’t be able to extend enough to elevate it off-balance. It may still be sticky, but one or two tries should clear it if the other elements are in place.
