Corić is impressive because of the mental growth that he suffered during the past year due to the uncertainty and anxiety that the shoulder injury created. He seems to have a really dedicated coach and physio who brought him through it. He’s developing the same mental toughness that I’ve grown to appreciate in the players from the region of the former Yugoslavia like Novak. In physique he looks a lot like Nadal.

It’s a great result and obviously something Borna should be super proud of. Still, all things considered the big question remains as to whether he can fulfill his career potential based on early promise. As impressive as his ground strokes and athleticism are, I think he still needs to find more variety on his serve and improve his return and tactical game including net play if he’s going to be up there with the elite and vie for Grand Slams.
