The United Kingdom has been accused of "helping Russia pay for the war in Ukraine" by continuing to import record volumes of refined oil from countries that process the Kremlin's fossil fuels. This was reported by The Guardian. Government data analyzed by the environmental news site Desmog shows that imports of refined oil from India, China and Turkey will total £2.2 billion in 2023, matching the previous year's record, compared to £434.2 million in 2021. The Global Witness campaign called this process "laundering" that undermines Ukraine's resistance to Russia.
