We call them "biscuits" and they tend to be lighter and moister than scones. It's delicious honestly... Also, most Americans don't have a bag of chips with every meal. I don’t know how the idea that Americans don’t use electric kettles came about but I’m 65 and have always used an electric kettle, and so do most of my family and friends. I do live in the south and we can’t live without our (properly brewed) tea.

Also most private schools aren’t public schools, public schools are specifically schools like Eton, Harrow etc. They’re more selective, tend to have a longer history and are still strongly associated with the ‘upper classes’ compared to private/independent schools. So all public schools are private but not all private schools are public.

I don't know if you'd really call it a kettle but my family has a Tea Maker, like a Coffee Maker, it does the same thing, just, with tea instead, works the exact same way basically.

Tea just isn't popular among most populations in the states. We never had tea in my house growing up. My parents would brew coffee all day and drink black coffee well into the evening. My first experience (and most Americans, I'd say) with tea is with iced sweet tea, Arizona sweet tea to be precise. As a kid, I thought only English people drank it hot 😂
