A Los Angeles judge delivered a win for Britney Spears in court fight against father. Spears' father, James "Jamie" Spears will be removed as her conservator. Her father has been in charge of her estate since he asked the court to place her in a conservatorship nearly 13 years ago. E Bay you seem to know so much about how her dad was there in her life. Her own mother and longtime assistant claim otherwise. Also, The courts didn’t approve everything. I don't even like pop, and I'm not a fan of her music at all, but I can still appreciate that if she was well enough to perform tour after tour, then she was well enough to manage her life. If she wasn't mentally fit enough to handle her own daily affairs, then having her on stage would have to be some sort of criminal exploitation of a mentally unstable individual. She had a really public breakdown, yes. She also subsequently was put into treatment and later returned to her career. People who aren't millionaires do that too, and if they have been back on track for a while and are stable, they generally get to put it behind them. The fact the conservatorship went on so long can only be attributed to greed on the part of her family and their lawyers.

I got into this case from the disability-rights angle, myself. Now, I can't say if she has a disability or not, but a lot of disabled people do get stuck in similar situations because family has done some shady stuff to make them look incompetent. I can see where, in some cases, a limited conservatorship is the best arrangement, but _total control_ like Jamie had is never okay. Part of being an adult, disabled or not, is making choices and dealing with the consequences of less-than-ideal choices.
@cristiaolson7327
@cristiaolson7327 2 роки тому
@Aaron Roger The point of that portion of my comment was to acknowledge that even individuals beyond a fandom-bubble can look from the outside and see that it was a pretty messed up situation. Also, why is that the only thing you zeroed in on?
@cristiaolson7327
@cristiaolson7327 2 роки тому
@@wmdkitty Exactly. My best friends' mother previously had a limited conservatorship where her daughter (the aforementioned friend) was a joint payee on her disability check to make sure her rent got paid and that there was food to eat. She is physically disabled, but also has some mental health issues, which are now pretty well managed, but after a crisis she was deemed unable to manage her affairs for a time. However, that payee arrangement was by my friend's mother's choice, as she was allowed to nominate my friend as her co-payee after having that breakdown, and later her daughter helped her regain control of her own finances once she had been stable for a while. My friend didn't try to, nor have legal grounds to, control her mom's life. All she did was send in the rent and make sure dinner got cooked. Her mother wasn't incompetent, but while she got her health better managed, she needed assistance. That's how that sort of situation ought to play out: family or a trustworthy person helping someone, and if the crisis is temporary, then that level of intervention should be temporary as well, and people who need that intervention should still have a say in who they trust (though for obvious reasons the person they nominate should be vetted as well).

@@TaharkahX YES YES YES. You know why? She needs to live her life. The money is hers. She should do with it AS SHE WISHES. As for the rest of it, she needs to find humane support that isn't forced upon her in ways that make her hate life. Like all the rest of us. Lots of people live well managing a mental illness. You don't seem to have much understanding. Also Brit has never been suicidal or harmed anyone. That should be the key factor in whether or not she can take care of her life.

@@TaharkahX I'm fairly certain my last sentence states "as long as you're not harming others". With that repeated, I will elaborate more. 1000s of people a day die at the hands of alcoholics. 1000s more get scammed via bad service works, telephone corruption, and identity fraud. Millions live with mental illness and others with horrible financial decisions. While I wish every single one of them to be as competent as possible and never want anything bad to happen to them why are you as a human making the determinations of how another human lives or what determines "well"? BTW, Lindsay Lohan was/is 100x worse yet no outrage. Just as a perspective, you should know Africans were told "we don't want anything bad to happen to you and we want the best for your communities' well being" as they were being talked into indentured servitude. What you end up with, at best, is the mob mentality that causes witch hunts like the current covid situation you are seeing today. At worst, slavery. We are supposed to be a nation of laws that keeps the governments out of our lives. People want abortion codified into law yet fail to see that also will codify the end of HIPAA, the end of your actual right to choose and will institute an ability for government to mandate how many children you can have. Cofifying abortion says "the government is giving you you're right to choose" which also means "if we gave you that right then we can take away other health rights" I am okay with removing children from proven bad homes. I am not okay with the government saying we can tax your earnings while dictating to you that you can't control your own earnings when your a grown adult. If a grown adults wants to crash and burn then so be it. It's high time we allow stulidty to play itself out and quit coddling to it and allowing governments to run out lives.

I can't believe a judge went along with this for so many years, she was basically kidnapped and held prisoner while the justice system did nothing. Investigations need to be made into the judge/s that went along with this.

Having known numerous parents who's adult children desperately needed some controls in their lives due to mental & physical health issues and/or addictions, I know it's virtually impossible to get court appointed conservators. Courts rule people have the right to be mentally ill & to refuse help. Adults can't be forced into medical treatment. Even those with addictions can't be forced into treatment. Why Brittany? Why so restrictive? Why so long? If she wasn't super wealthy with more wealth coming from more career success, the conservatorship would have never ever happened. If she worked at Starbucks or Amazon, or had gotten a college degree & taught school - this would have never happened. Brittany Spears has been exploited by her father & the law. People need to be criminally charged. Any judges involved need to step down for turning her into a slave. Lawyers should be disbarred. Her father should pay back every sent he took from her & go to jail for illegally monitoring her.

This is happening to people all the time in the world of Mental Health. It was a trailer for a documentary I saw a little while ago that a guy who wanted to stop taking his medication for his schizophrenia but was legally required to even though it was causing him permanent side effects that he didn't want to endure and he felt like he could handle his schizophrenia. Then there is my own personal case where I was conserved for a period of years because I decided to use psychiatric hospitals as a way to escape my abusive home and in the process instead of people taking a look at the fact that I was being abused at home they decided to look at it as I was just a kid making poor decisions with my life at that moment. Which to me is everybody stupid because the only reason I did any of it was to leave the home I was in so I didn't have to get hurt anymore. This stuff happens all the time. Britney is just the most public version of it ever happening. And my biggest hope for her is that when this is behind her that she uses what she's went through to help other people that are like her they may not have the recognition that she has to help them and make it a better system for us all so it's not a system about policing but this is about helping people who really want to help.

It’s hard to believe such an abusive arrangement was allowed to continue for so long to someone living in the public spotlight. Turns out the ‘free Britney’ voices were right all along. I hope Britney gets to enjoy much happiness, health, freedom and love.

Rich coming from a justice system that has treated her like a Guantanamo Bay detainee, their so-called "conservatorship" has had the effect of stripping Brittany off her constitutional rights and left her with little to no recourse under the law.
