Norris said he needed to gain weight for the part and binged on the studio's dime. Bruce Lee originally offered the part to martial artist, Joe Lewis who declined, saying that no one would take his being defeated by a much smaller opponent seriously. I wonder if Lewis ever looses any sleep over this decision since this was the film that helped catapult Norris to his fame.

For cinema, this is probably the best fight ever put to screen. As a martial artist, it’s painfully simple. Chuck wins when Bruce acts and he reacts, the Bruce stops acting and starts anticipating and suddenly wins. I love both these men and I wish we could’ve seen the real battle between them.
