BLTV Classic recaps the night Mike Tyson defended his heavyweight crown against his old friend Frank Bruno the hard-hitting bodybuilder

Yep watched it live at a snooker club in Bedford... that punch sent the place wild, think we really thought it could happen... and Frank Carpenter shouting "come on frank".
@redemptivepete8 місяців тому
Tysons instinctive response was a hook that just missed even as he wobbled. If that had connected it would have decapitated Bruno. That's the difference between them right there!
@Mrz-sb1hw7 місяців тому
You can tell the way mister Tyson looks when he walks to the ring that he has already won. It's in his eyes.
@thomascook2982Місяць тому
He caught him with a lucky shot, only lasted 4 rounds. Doesn’t matter that he’s a “good dude”
@darrellowings2343Рік тому
Now that was a brilliant stoppage. One of the best ever. He saw the punch he needed to see to know he didn't need to see anymore.
@jphassonРік тому
Excellent comment. The uppercut right before was brutal as well.
@eggoslayer1001Рік тому
For sure. I always think refs should go for caution, even if the crowd and fans hate them for it. They have to be the one protect the fighters. It always makes me cringe when refs in boxing and MMA just let a fighter get pummeled and beat nearly to death without a stoppage knowing they are probably suffering some pretty severe unnecessary brain damage.
@tonyg5132Рік тому
@@eggoslayer1001 mma has gotten better with that. Sometimes a little too cautious where it doesn’t make sense to stop it
@QualltoxyРік тому
Agreed. When Bruno didn't even counterpunch or evade Tyson's slower, more powerful punches he knew it was over.
@eggoslayer1001Рік тому
@@tonyg5132 For sure, MMA has been better about stoppages compared to Boxing by a lot. Boxing you just regularly see dudes brain cells vanishing and no stoppage. Letting guys just get tee'd off on with no defense or getting up way too many times from knockdowns. Seeing some of my favorite boxers just stumble through sentences after they retire has made me really look differently at those situations. They will of course make some mistakes and stop too early, but again, I'd much rather that happen than a fight go too far and fighter's suffer needlessly.

@educateme8455Рік тому
Unreal. Stayed on his feet and walked away too.
@tonyh8965Рік тому
Bruno always had a good chin I've never understood people saying he was chinny. All I can think is they watched 2 fights, Tyson and Lewis and made that assumption. Both Tyson and Lewis are two of the hardest punchers and greatest we've ever had. His other 2 loses were late round stoppages when he was younger, greener and run out of steam late and both were World champion in Witherspoon and Bonecrusher Smith. Both solid fighters too.
@airprok8328Рік тому
Cause he was against the ropes. That uppercut would have put him down. It was Tysons specialty combo that I loved. Shot to the body to get the guy to lower his guard then the viscous uppercut
@Fister_of_MuppetsРік тому
Having a "good chin" is one thing, but Bruno was getting rocked there. I wouldn't say he was out on his feet, but I'd argue that there was plenty of damage being done inside his dome.
@akshaymanta55Рік тому
Hence I the claim that George Foreman would be a devastating opponent for Tyson who not only could take those punches but also was the hardest hitter of the two.
@richardpearson2999Рік тому

@cassavaman3784Рік тому

@whatevermann3504Рік тому
@@newgenerationtechnology2930 People say that, But Mike had some of his weakest performances under Kevin Rooney!! Look at his 1986 fight with journeyman James Tillis (a guy with over 20 losses) Mike struggled for 10 rounds and even lost 4 out of those 10 rounds on the judges score cards, many fan believe Tillis actually won the fight!! in 1987 he (Mike) looked poor against James Smith (one of the weakest champs ever with a 19-8 record at the time) Mike just get rushing in and getting caught in clinches, couldn't even drop smith over 12 rounds and even got badly hurt by smith in the last round. He looked bad against tony tubbs to, just swinging wildly looking for one big punch, actually got outboxed by Tubbs until landing a big left hook. Rooneys influence on Mike is very overrated.
@cassavaman3784Рік тому
Mike's movement is what separated him from his opponents aside from the incredible defence, power, refuse to lose mentality etc. His movement amplified all his other attributes. Once this disappeared he was no longer that truly superior fighter to other men. Am a lifelong Tyson fan and this was a heartbreaking and career changing moment.
@TheSkinnyMechanic9 місяців тому

@sterlihallaРік тому
Those punches were brutal. Tyson does not get enough credit on how much leverage he gets with his punches and his weight distribution. That is literally 200lbs of force in every punch. Scary stuff. Frank was tough as nails.

People forget Mike was just 22 when he fought Frank the first time. Just 5 years earlier he was a nobody kid in upstate NY. Now, he can’t go anywhere without the searing press watching and scrutinizing his every move. The centering force of Cus and his team (Jim Jacobs, Rooney, Cayton) were dead (Jacobs, ‘88) or fired. He was no longer the same fighter.

Tyson deserves a bit more credit for his dominating wins against Bruno. Just because Frank was prone to getting knocked out, still didn't mean it was easy to do it. Prior to Tyson, he got stopped in the last stages of both fights. And both were against big men who knew how to punch. Mike just absolutely demolished him. Twice.
@tonyh8965Рік тому
How was he prone to getting knocked out? I've never understood that narrative. He lost 5 times, twice to Tyson, once to Lewis - both are two of the hardest punchers in history and then to two solid fighters who both could punch and both were world champions in Tim Witherspoon and Bonecrusher Smith. He lost to 4 men in 45 fights, with 40 wins and 39 knockouts. I think Bruno deserves a lot more respect imo.
@MasterFatnessРік тому
@@tonyh8965 And respect is what I am giving him. Which is exactly why I'm saying that Tyson deserves more respect for beating him twice. As for him being prone to getting knocked out, that's simply a way of saying, when he lost he got knocked out. Man lost 5 times but never by decision. I like Bruno, think he's very underrated in general. No less respect to him just because he was stopped a handful of times by big punchers. It's heavyweight boxing and that's the name of the game.
