"SKY" refers to the top 3 Universities in Korea (Seoul University, Korea University & Yonsei University) and EXTREMELY difficult to get into. Many Koreans feel that if you get accepted into one of these Universities, your career and success in life is set. All students start studying hard from a very young age in preparation for the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT or Suneung) which is an 8 hour test given once a year to over 500,000 students to determine what university they qualify for. The pressure and high stress of the school system in South Korea is why they have the highest suicide rates in the world for students. BTS wanted to address this with this song.

to all the people still studying, please know you did your best. grades won't determine your future. Yoongi believes in you. note: I hope baby armys don't believe the misconception of yoongi saying he hates studying. he LOVES studying. he just hates the school SYSTEM. if you ever feel like giving up, remember that BTS are literally balancing their university studies while being artists. if they can do it, you can too. "crooked eye" is a Korean slang based on an old idiom that basically means your thinking on a subject is already skewed because your view (sight/eye) is narrowed by your biases/ideologies

Just as a tidbit, when RM says: "In Seoul to the SKY" SKY is an abbreviation for the three top universities in Korea (Seoul National, Korea University, and Yonsei University)

N.O stands for "No Offense" according to the boys and yoongi in his iconic "wealthy housewife hair"

My BTS playlist is tagged "Bangtan Style" because that's the genre. I can play their tracks for hours and never get bored because they have so much variety, and none of their songs sound dated to me.

I think JHope's background as a free style street dancer, his hidden wordings talent (his father is a Korean language teacher) and his living together with RM and Suga helped him to become a good rapper.

Jimin in the beginning was the last to be picked and was picked for his dancing experience like jhope. He didn't have training in vocals so he learned by watching the others during their training and practicing on his own. He had the shortest time of training, less than a year maybe 6 monthsbefore debut. He had to earn his lead vocal status. Jin was picked for his looks off a bus and had to learn both vocal and dance. He is still one of the most hardworking of them and his skills show his diligence. Jhope had to learn how to rap. I believe his experience in street dance helped a lot cause of his musicality such a natural. Some of the many examples of how hardworking this team is. They all had to overcome so much. Suga never intended to be a idol he was hired as a producer and song writer when he was convinced to be apart of the group it was originally a hip hop group before the vocalist came into play. They also promised that RM and Suga didn't have to dance 🩰. V never intended to audition he came to support a friend but they saw him and convinced him to audition and he was only one out of everyone at that audition including his friend to make it as a trainee. Not originally apart of the dance line he worked hard and officially became apart of it in 2018 after his MV Singularity a must see if you haven't. He has the awesome talent of being able to remember choreo like photogenic memory. He probably can give you their first choreo off the top of his head even though they have so many in the archives. I really think it's time for you to see some documentaries to get the full picture of BTS some of the best ones are any by Xceleste and the rise of Bangtan. Asian theory has a docu that is awesome can't remember the name of it.

Anthony, you really get how special their RANGE is, and how they evolved. So glad you’re spreading the word about their MUSIC. If only more people just LISTENED instead of prejudging.

Hobi was not a rapper and Jin had no experience in singing or dancing. Namjoon and Yoongi thought they didn't have to dance but had to learn to. All the members worked so hard to reach the level they're at, mad respect. And the best way to describe them is Bangtan style

Jin appears Anthony : *excited* Yes he knows perfectly what he's doing. In all the MVs, I wait for that moment when Jin looks at us like, "Hey you, worldwide handsome is here to put a spell on you, again. Don't try to resist honey" Us : it's too late sir. i was already obsessed.

When Hobi first joined Big Hit as a trainee, he didn't know how to rap. But while he was there, the rapper trainees were trained to write a rap song almost every day, and there was a very tense monthly evaluation. And the fact that he survived over numerous rapper candidates proves that he already had excellent skills when they debuted. And Kookie Monster, too! He was a main vocal, lead dancer and sub-rapper when they started their career.

There is a WHOLE SYSTEM of education in Korea that this song really relates to. Yes, it's about saying no to 'standards' in society. That part exists in all countries for sure. But men it's a lot more intense in South Korea re education. For example in one of the lines 'From Seoul to the SKY', SKY actually pertains to the top 3 universities in South Korea which is every parents' dream for their child to the point where they set unreasonable standards. And you also recognized why they remain relevant. When look into AND experience Bangtan’s discography, it is indeed a rollercoaster ride. But moreover I guess it’s due to them-putting their every present times/every phase they are going through-to their art form. They make music depicting every realities they’ve been in. Creating a _time capsule_ wherein they have a song about one experiencing youth, one experiencing adulthood, the existential crisis, books & beats they are influenced, etc. As if they are not just tapping into concepts for the sake of exploring and evolving, but finding concepts that can also represent their inner selves. Their outcry, their fulfillment while also making a statement to everyone who are also experiencing the same thing. It’s so personal to them yet relatable to anyone so to speak. That it highlights normal human life. So they really took the term 'era' of the SoKor mainstream music industry to the _actual era_ of their lives.

That's why I love BTS you can get any genre of music from them. If I want rap I hit that playlist, dance another playlist, uplifting that's another playlist, R and B that's a playlist. They have it all. Plus if you listen to their last CD Be that's a whole different sound they just created music that they wanted to create. Also JK's "Still With You" is a coffee shop vibe and Airplane 2 has a spanish flavor.

Fun facts: 1) Students (kids/young adults) in Korean study for hours every day for a test that will determine which college they will go to and this test also determine their life… 2) the suicide rate in Korea for kids like 10-19 is really highly (correct me if I am wrong ARMY), I believe it is the fourth leading cause of death in Korea. 3) “Seol in the Sky” I believe is talking about one of the biggest (prestigious) colleges in Korea. 4) Basically they are saying to do what makes you happy…find your dreams and once you find it work hard, but don’t follow what society or your parents want for you if it isn’t what you want.

Hey Anthony, I thought I would share that BTS just gave a speech at the UNGA in New York City, and they did a performance of Permission To Dance, actually starting IN the UN Building and then ending it outside with a whole lot of people dancing with them. They travelled there from South Korea as Special Presidential Envoys with the President and his entourage. It was pretty amazing to see. So proud of them for speaking for youth around the world about making change. 💜

"Make money, good money It's already crooked eyes" Crooked eyes is when people eyes aren't aligned right (crossed eye or wall eye) So if we interpret it that way it could mean two things. If they're crossed that mean you're singlehandedly focused on money n making money. Tho if they're wall eyed means you're looking in two different way. So say making money and good money are two criteria.To fall under the first is not enough as you've to have good money (rich). I am of the era when Eminem started out hitting mainstream (I was 17). I discovered Biggie and Tupac after they died but then my interest in music kind of died. In 2013 it came back and I started catching up on what I missed. My niece showed me TXT first, then BTS. I immediately said "Jesus, that Suga guy can rap.". I know people compare him to Eminem, but having seen his start, and heard Suga, he is really is one of the greatest rappers I've ever heard. He is a born rapper. It's in his system.
