@@relaxtreme it is not uncontrollable. It is natural in some shots, in most it is voluntary, but it supposedly has a positive impact on the game. Speaking isn't allowed in singles matches. It's stated in the ATP rulebook. All she did was her job. Maybe some umpires would choose not to enforce that rule? A lot of fans would argue in favor of an umpire who intentionally allowed players to speak during the point. But the umpire that allows players to speak is the one not doing their job fairly, and the umpire that makes calls according to the rulebook is the one thag is doing their job fairly. Hate the rulebook, not the umpire. Maybe they can rewrite the rule so that it's not black and white? Fans would enjoy that. It would complicate the umpires job, but 🤷‍♂️

When people grunt specifically to distract an opponent, they are given a violation. As one can imagine, though, that's VERY difficult to police. For example, a controversial one is when. @brandonhenry5363. That's not correct. Partner communication is allowed even if the ball is traveling to your opponents' side of the court if the utterance is common to the game and not egregious. So things like "watch out," "cover the line," etc are perfectly legal.

medvedev (the guy on the far side) was about to win the point when he apologized to the other guy for the shot he was about to hit. Hindrance is when someone talks during the point, and because medvedev talked, it was called hindrance. This call made no sense because medvedev would only have been distracting himself 😂

The umpire erred. You cannot hinder your opponent/distract them such as shouting before they hit the ball. Medvedev apologized but before HE hit the ball. He cannot hinder himself.
