I really appreciate this. One of the problems I see with outdoor gear is that equipment is so expensive it prices people out of the hobby.

It doesn’t have to. There are plenty of budget options out there. Also, check out deals in previous model tents/sleeping bags/down jackets/tents/ etc. it’s amazing the prices you can get when new products are introduced

Oh it’s a big issue. They know they got people though. Because it’s literally life or death (sometimes) so your gonna pay 4-600 dollars for a tent to make sure you and your loved ones don’t suffer

You were the first channel that really featured Paria products when I was looking at colder weather gear for those on a budget, and I really appreciated it! Have their sleeping pads, a tent, and a couple quilts from them and am really happy with their products AND their customer service.

Yes! I think many of us watch the reviews of high end gear and think "yeah, if only. Maybe someday" and then carry our budget-friendlier gear again on our next trip. I bought the Zion 1p this summer and couldn't be happier with the quality and weight. More content like this please!

Featherstone definitely needs more PR! They're a great company with quality products. I haven't used any of their tents, but the moondance quilt is an amazing product

I've been impressed with the two tents I've been using from them. The Granite 2P has handled some pretty intense storms this year. I am looking to try the Moondance quilt here soon as well. I have essentially stopped using quilts all together, but gonna give it a shot.

So excited to finally see the Paria Zion on video! We have the 3 person (i and my husband both use extra wide pads) and split the 5.5 pounds, giving us each a tent weight of less than 3# for a huge bargain! The tent is so well thought out and so so easy to set up... the pole structure is genius. You can leave the ground cover home if conditions are right. Paria is great to work with- offered to send extra tent stakes when we used more than provided. Smallish vestibules, but fine for shoes and trekking poles (I use my pack cover for extra coverage in rainy weather). Bought it as a starter tent- may not ever upgrade!

Absolutely love this video! Showing off some affordable (but not cheaply made) products is what originally got me subscribed to your channel years ago. I bought my son a Paria sleeping bag based on your recommendation years ago, and it's still serving him well. I've wondered about Featherstone products for a while now, so thank for sharing...giving that thing some consideration for my 1st trekking pole tent.

I love Paria Outdoors. I absolutely love them for entry level gear and budget minded backpackers. My Bryce 2p has been going strong for 7 years and their customer service is amazing. My experience with them and their products have been excellent. I own many of their other products which are excellent as well. I love their pillow when combined with a simple blowup pillow that nestles in the paria’s pillow sleeve. It weighs as much as many backpacking pillows but is very comfortable.

bought the Featherstone two person tent last year because I was tired of carrying so much weight and can’t afford to very expensive temps so this was a literary compromise turned out to be a fantastic buy plenty of room not sure the waterproof yet but they say it is, but I haven’t tested that medication quality seems to be very lightweight. I love it. Thanks for doing a video

Toward the end of the summer I bought the Granite 2P tent from Featherstone. Took it camping with my kids and we got hit hard with rain and the tent performed incredibly well. No leaks and plenty strong. Check out that video if you haven’t.

that’s very good news that’s the same situation with me. I have a five-year-old. I’m introducing to the woods with one on several backpacking trips last year spent a few nights in the woods wasn’t able to really test it out with the weather so I’m glad to hear that it’s waterproof. The tenant self is outstanding great for a adult and a small child for sure. No problem at all it’s like a palace, by the way, I’m a new subscriber like your show man you’re doing a great job. Keep it up. Yeah we bought the Featherstone two person tracking pole tent is the one that I have. I love it.

I'm a really big fan of Paria. I use the Bryce 1P on a lot of trips where I want to use a semi freestanding tent. Their customer service is fantastic and really do live up to their warranties. I like the look of the Featherstone tents but the fact the foot end of the 1P and 2P tents taper so much, I won't get one. The Paria Arches 2P trekking pole tent is a great option at less than 3lbs and $159. With a floor width of 53 inches, it's a true two person tent.
@BackcountryExposure
@BackcountryExposure 5 місяців тому
Yeah the taper on the 1P backbone is far more pronounced of a potential issue than the 2P is for me. I’d be likely to only use the 2P for two when it’s me and one of my kids, who would be on a 20" pad anyway. Yes, the arches is also a great option!

I bought a Moondance 25 quilt. I wanted to try a quilt without breaking the bank. I find it to be of good quality and much more comfortable than a Mummy bag. I used it down to 28 degrees on a Thermarest Xtherm pad. I slept in my Ghost Whisperer puffy and I was warm.

@@Ray_Here Nice to hear. I recently picked up the EE Enigma 0 for winter. I wanted to try a quilt because I am a side sleeper who moves around a lot and I sometimes find my mummy bags a little constricting at times. I have the Nemo Sonic, which is great, and its spoon design gives me the additional wiggle room I need.
@Ray_Here
@Ray_Here 5 місяців тому
That EE should be a great quilt. I’m a side sleeper as well. I like to winter camp so I may combine the Moondance with a homemade Costco quilt and see how far down i can take it. Love winter camping. No bugs and no crowds!

Wanting to love these options but for another 8 oz over the Paria, have my REI Passage 2 that is 54” wide, taller, thunderstorm-proven by me & nearly indestructible so far from the 2 dogs I travel with. 2 doors & vestibules too, fool-proof 2-pole design. I like a 2-straight pole’s flexibility, as an engineer. Was about $125 on sale 4 yrs ago, but inflation happens ya know. Until I go on longer-than a weekend backpack trips in the near future, can’t justify a Paria 1-P yet. Loved the detailed reviews tho but as a Southern & midwestern camper, storm proofness wins out over all else at this time. Like to go thru a 2-inch sudden rain & still stay dry. Newer Passage 2 is a slightly different design.
@rodoutdoors
@rodoutdoors 5 місяців тому
Thanks for sharing budget options. The designs are cookie cutter but are proven, solid designs. The Zion looks like the MSR Hubba Hubba which NatureHike copied with the Mongar, but the Zion 1P is unique for a 1P for having 2 doors. Nice there's another budget alternative to NatureHike or 3FUL. I hope their customer support is decent.

I dont get ultra light... can people not carry 35lbs for 3 days? my only complaint on FeatherStone... better floor, add a few ounces for reliability, I have to now pack a footprint?.. its thin... outside of that & adding 1 1/4" to the bottom mesh panel extending it for airflow (southeast) its a good tent! Plus I have a dog, I need a tough floor.....
@Im_With_Stupid
@Im_With_Stupid 5 місяців тому
I've been watching the Featherstone tent for a while now and right before all the big Christmas sales started they jacked the price to $180 and then discounted it 30%. IIRC the regular price before they jacked it up was the current sale price and I expect they'll lower it again after the sale.
@BackcountryExposure
@BackcountryExposure 5 місяців тому
I’m not exactly sure when they adjusted the pricing, but know it was $179 for the 2P for a while. 30% off $199 is still less than $179. 🤷🏻‍♂️
@Im_With_Stupid
@Im_With_Stupid 5 місяців тому
@@BackcountryExposure I should've specified. I was talking about the 1 person, which was $125 or $130 until they jacked it up to $180. The 2 person is now $199 and has no 30% discount, just a 10% discount code you can apply. If it was $180 before, the 10% discount just brings it down to it's usual uninflated price.

@BackcountryExposure
@BackcountryExposure 2 місяці тому
Both are awesome! If you don't mind the front entry of the Bryce, then it's a really good option for one. The Zion having two doors and vestibules is nice and is side entry, which more people prefer.

What's the purpose of those vestibules if people bring their shoes and backpack into the tent?
@BackcountryExposure
@BackcountryExposure 5 місяців тому
Vestibules serve many purposes. Mostly they keep weather away from the doors of the tent. Some people may cook in the vestibule in bad weather. I usually only put my shoes in my tent in the desert. Have woke up too many times with scorpions inside or under my shoes overnight.

The Lanshan is a proven, great tent option. The 2 person pro would be a solid choice and would work out well for many years. The pro isn't seam sealed, so you'll need to do that on your own. Im not sure the weight difference off hand between the Backbone and Lanshan, but the Backbone is going to have a little more space to move around with how tall the peak is.
@flymonk001

@derekhughes4028
@derekhughes4028 3 місяці тому
Yes, metric would be great. In the UK we do use the height of people in feet and inches. Our roads are measured in miles but we do mix it up at little. It’s a bit of an odd one that even we don’t really get at times either tbh. Yards become metres and inches become centimetres all within a conversation. Then there’s stones that become Kg within a sentence!

I love Paria gear, great quality affordable stuff but Nylon tents suck, they absorb moisture and stretch when wet making them a floppy mess in a storm. I have sworn off any nylon tent after having owned quite a few of them.
@BackcountryExposure
@BackcountryExposure 5 місяців тому
Yes Paria is amazing. I disagree with you though. Nylon is a great fabric. Yes it will stretch, but you could find fault in nearly any fabric used for a tent. Dyneema is too expensive for most people, and can suffer from durability, not to mention it also shrinks over time. Which can affect the performance down the road. Polyester is great, but typically heavier than nylon and can be more bulky. There is no perfect fabric.

Are any of these products made in America? Do you support America? We won American products. What are you doing Chinese?
@BackcountryExposure
@BackcountryExposure 5 місяців тому
This is a loaded series of questions. Yes, I support America and American jobs. Buying a tent from either of these brands supports American jobs. Even USA made products in many many cases will trace back to some aspect of the product being manufactured overseas (China, Vietnam, etc). Nearly all zippers, plastic buckles, and fabrics are manufactured overseas. Getting a 100% made in America product is nearly impossible to achieve.
