Ukranian Forces have been praising this vehicle for months. It's saved the lives of countless UAF soldiers and inflicted heavy casualties on the invading Russians. The Bushmaster, an Australian vehicle, has an interesting development beginning all the way back in 1994. Designed specifically to save the lives of it's occupants, it's a hugely impressive piece of kit. But how does it work? And why is it in Ukraine?
Any feedback is greatly appreciated, I'm always trying to improve.

Another great video! I'm going to show my elderly Estonian friend who experienced WW2 as a young boy before immigrating to the U.S. in the 1950's. He was an engineer by profession and I'm sure he'll appreciate the story of this vehicle. Owing to his experiences in the war with Stalin's Soviet forces occupying Estonia, he's extremely empathetic to the Ukrainian people in their fight against Putin's Russia. Thank you!

I know that in the event of Russia initiating a nuclear conflict, I would prefer that Australian flags had not be present on any equipment used against their perceived enemies beforehand. I believe Australia's involvement should be limited to participating in peace talks and nothing more. Also, if China were to attack Australia, would Ukraine come to our aid? Although I wish the best for the people of both Ukraine (and Russia) I do not see any benefit for Australia in supporting the opposition against the world's largest nuclear power.

didnt get past the first few seconds.. lol the bushmaster was designed by bob roach's team at perry engineering in australia.. "Stephenson made trucks for the US Army, so the designers of the original Project Bushranger vehicle adopted the same system of engine, transmission and other parts for their new vehicle. Some of that changed later. ‘We thought we’d be in with a better chance in the competition if we had a proven powertrain,’ says Roach. The Irish company Timoney Technology assembled very effective drivelines and suspension systems for off-road vehicles and provided a specialist drafting team to the project. The first plates for the Bushmaster were cut and the pieces were welded together at the factory in Mile End where the company had, long before, built locomotives. Bob Roach’s team had an isolated section they called ‘The Garage’, and that’s where the Bushmaster was assembled. The first stage was to weld the plates together into a box, and that was done in the workshop: ‘It was kept a little bit secret, which was what we wanted.’ In September 1996, Perry Engineering sold the intellectual property rights to Roach’s Bushmaster design, along with intellectual property from Timoney and Perry’s option to compete for the right to build the vehicles, to government-owned ADI. The Perry Bushmaster was redesigned later at the ADI plant in Bendigo. ‘But,’ says Bob, ‘it got the company’s foot in the door of the project.’ If anyone want's to know the true story behind the bushmaster's concept and design, from beginning to end you can find it here.. its an amazing story too, def worth the read. ad-aspi.s3.ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com/2019-12/The%20Bushmaster_from%20concept%20to%20combat.pdf?VersionId=QDYuS1qI3O4nSPaZ7NBfrSlK6gLVpyz1

The one country that could give a LOT of weapons (artillery, tanks, mortars etc) and not worry about reprisals is USA & Canada. These two countries alone could outfit Ukraine to win the war but for some reason US is dripping equipment over to Ukraine. Canada has been a lightweight in giving to Ukraine. The success of the Bushmaster really highlights the tragedy of other Australian military procurement projects. The Bushmaster is unusual in that it's an original design to meet a specific Australian tactical and operational requirement. Unfortunately most Australian procurement projects aren't like that; most modern purchases have been capability-based not needs-based, meaning we don't make a strategic assessment of our needs before making purchases; there's a list of what a 'modern army' has (irrespective of the specific strategic or tactical needs) and then we buy a foreign one of each try and get part of it made in Australia for job creation (meaning it usually costs more) and then change the design so much it costs even more or straight up breaks. Our history with submarines is a classic example of this, the recent tank purchase is another example. The irony being, as illustrated by the Bushmasters, that Australia's operational requirements are often applicable elsewhere and to other users, but we don't do those basic needs-assessments or support domestic innovation, and we end up with expensive, often-unreliable platforms and equipment.

At the time the only Bushmaster model kit was out of print and I only obtained an old one at great expense. Neither diorama has been finished yet, because of ill health. I should have waited! Ever since the Ukrainian war began there has been at least one model kit of the Bushmaster released, at low cost; and I would be willing to bet there are more on the way. Our LAVs should also be sent to support a greater number of Bushmasters, after all we're not using them in any offensive campaigns at the present time. It's logical that they go to the Ukraine and do what they were designed to do; save lives, get troops to where they're needed quickly and to bring them out again, while dishing out some firepower when needed. Our best wishes for a swift victory to all the Ukrainian people who are fighting for the very existence of their country. Slava Ukraini! Bill H.

But instead everyone is getting rid of all their old military hardware and keeping the war going. All the old hardware is getting replaced with new. Being paid for, by us, the taxpayer. The Ukrainians seem to use mostly Bradley IFV for landing and extraction operations. The Bushmasters are significant by their absence in this role.

im an aussie and we have a service depot for them in my city that i used to do maintenance work on the way they repair bush masters is wild they dont just jack them up like a normal car or truck they have a special clamp system that grabs them from the front and back and lifts them up and then spins the vehicle 360 in the air. ive ssen a few of these things after mine strikes and some look like they have just gone through some rough driving then others look like how you would expect from a mine

For everyone out there, especially aussies who are proud to be helping save ukrainian lives, i think Its worth mentioning that these bushmasters are also sold to indonesia and are used by the indonesian military to navigate papua new guinea as they hunt down the indigenous people who are only armed with spears and bows and arrows.

@@joebloggs5271 The Bushmaster was intended to combat IEDs and mines. Standing up to ATGMs and tank rounds is more than it can handle but the Ukrainians have been forced to use it in a frontline combat role due to NATO countries dragging their feet in supplying them with proper AFVs. ONly now are they slowly sending Leopards, Bradleys, Challengers and what not.

As an Australian I am so glad our country has been able to help Ukraine in this way. To see the Bushmasters keeping these brave Ukrainians a little bit safer is everything. So they can go back to their families and rebuild Ukraine once putin is dealt with.
