I would have been curious to see how Butterbean would have faired against the better journeymen of the late 90s and early 2000s if he had actually been serious about wanting to be a good boxer. Not talking about fighting the greats...but the better journeymen like Jimmy Thunder, Jorge Louis Gonzales, Greg Paige, Razor Ruddock. Never happened, though. Instead, he had a fake title belt created for him and spent years going around as the "Super Heavyweight Champion King of the Four Rounders."

Im glad its out now. Mitch is lookin down happy. He was i shape because he was in philly at Augiues Gym in camp getting Buster Mathis jr ready for Mike Tyson which was the following night in Philly. To be fair, this was one of Butterbean's early fights. That's why the guys calling the fight are talking about him like he's new to the scene. After that loss he went on a 50 fight run without losing. Sure he didn't fight many top ranked guys. He did take out Pete McNeeley during that run though. Going through any 50 HW boxers without losing is still a pretty good accomplishment. Even after that 50 fight run he was still winning way more fights than he was losing, way past his prime in his 40s. He definitely improved after this fight. He was never close to being at the top of the game, but he was always dangerous.

Beating Butterbean is only notable because Butterbean was a very well marketed sideshow attraction. Likeable guy, Eric Esch, but in reality probably no more talented than a Jake Paul. Butterbean was very much a fabrication and not a real boxer, and credit to Esch he did very well out of it. He was so marketable that he somehow featured in all the Knockout Kings/Fight Night EA Sports videogames, even though skill or legacy-wise he had no right to be there! Losing to a 1-7 real boxer was pretty much his level, and before/after this he went back to padding his record with local truck drivers around the States.

They made sure his opponents were prepared to either take a dive or stand in front of him and throw haymakers.
