@@AyataHiragi I take your point, but there aren't that many people that have the hardware or the know-how to plug a pc into their car, a 4090 sucks up a lot of watts, your going to need a really really expensive inverter. As for testing at the sellers place, in the same way you wouldn't want them in your place, they might not want some random buyer in their house either. The only thing I can think of is a cafe or something that will let you plug in your mini itx pc and monitor (or maybe an integrated LCD). Point is, if this is a one off purchase you are unlikely to be adequately prepared.

I started doing this 3 years ago and I've caught 9 people trying to scam me. 8 immediately left when they saw my setup giving some "very sudden emergency excuse and the like (tells me they're pretty experienced with this)" and 1 seemed to have no idea what they were selling and was rather confused when they witnessed with me that the card doesn't work. Facebook is rife with scammers. Guess the scams work well enough given that the amount of them never seems to drop. Buyers though are typically impressed.

As an owner of a 4090 I have the following reality check question for "I by my 4090 used" people: Why would I sell my perfectly working 4090??? There is nothing better to replace it with. Because I found out that I don't need it for Minesweeper? Because when I got home with the parts for my gaming PC, my father told me that I'm Amish? Because I found another one behind the couch while cleaning? And even if there is a legit reason for me to sell it, why should I sell it for less than 1500$? If someone is trying to sell you a cheap used "working" 4090, bring the police. Because he is either trying to scam you or he stole it from someone else.

Most of these stripped boards come from China. They’re desperate for NVidia GPUs ever since the US government banned NVidia from selling any GPUs at or above the 4090 level in compute power. So the Chinese bought pallet loads of gaming 4090s, ship them to China where the memory and GPUs are stripped and placed into data center grade boards. The cast off shells are then repackaged and shipped back outside of China by scammers like that idiot in the picture and resold.

I am confused to why the shop said "It was fried" and offered 200 for it... As that leaves only 4 scenarios... 1) They never checked it. (But also offered money for it!?)... confusing, questionable and bad practice/business. 2) They took the GPU and Memory. (Retailers have contacts to return parts in exchange for repaired or working ones. Let alone the ability to mix and match parts to sell on). 3) Felt sorry for them... and lied... and was willing to give away money... terrible for "business" and unsustainable. 4) Customer is lying and wants you to put parts in it... Extremely unlikely, especially with photo's as evidence. May of accidently provided inaccurate information. I would be checking user reviews of this shop... the dude who sold it definitely sold a dodgy card... but "how dodgy" and under what reality... It's totally possible that the customer got double scammed...

Just to speculate, not on this if facefark, traceable and chargeable offense that I hope to hear about. What 4090 variant do you not see, consider design implementations that would be a favorable choice if one were to choose to go down that rabies infested hole.

Lol, i wouldnt buy used 4090 from ebay or other similar places because there are TONS of card without core scams. This is because they are mostly from China where the cores were removed for AI before Nvidia ban. I bought 7900XTX white OC edition and having fun. I dont feel for the 4090 owners who got scammed. You wanted cheap you got cheaped.

Always ask for a possibility of a trsnsaction through a middleman like ebay or equivalent, where there's a security program available. If the seller (or buyer) refuses for any reason - it's 100% a scam attempt.

No, not true. There are fees charged, and required to collect taxes. I've known dozens of people who had mining rigs, and will only sell their cards for cash, locally, and pick it up at a public place Orr police station

@@mr.transposon5017 fr ebay sucks for sellers. Better than amazon as a buyer tho

I mean yeah I wouldn't mind selling it that way if you agreed to cover the fees from the site being used and you have to pay the taxes also so adds way more cost for the buyer and seller
@PolskiJaszczomb
@PolskiJaszczomb 14 днів тому
If you refuse to list it - you're a big red flag, mind gymnastic will not change that fact. Fees can be agreed to be paid by the buyer and you don't have to pay taxes by making second hand sales.

Two things Tony. Buying something second hand from someone needs to precede with showing that GPU was working. Otherwise it is buying a cat int the sack. Second, I think showing the person and openly accusing (especially in US) can fire back big times. My friendly advise is not to do that, even defending a person that you trust. Way to avoid possible lawsuits etc.

It’s why i never buy used or sell. Scammers can be both ways.

yep. I sold a good gpu on ebay, buyer claimed it was "obviously taken apart and not put back together correctly". Total BS lie, I never took it apart, ebay gave him partial refund, i got screwed. never sold on ebay again.

If you beliveve you can get working GPU via facebook you deserve to learn a lesson. And imagine believe in working 4090. The information is more worth than the money itself. P.S. Nothing happened that can not be fixed.

Nothing wrong with buying GPUs on Facebook if you actually test the GPU in person before buying. Scammers are everywhere, It's not just facebook.
50% of all 4090 will end up in trash and here is why
