Camels were detected at 04:40 This morning, and so we mobilised via aircraft to go take control of them, on our way to fix a water point, in preparation for a long, hot summer.
Join Jasmine, Tim and Jack, as they set out with the Wedgetail MPR Mod2 308 and the Verney Carron Speedline in 308 and drop the mob.
Protecting the sensitive environment that their pastoral lease surrounds, and the water for their cattle.

Being a US citizen it hurts to hear that the legislation that they’re trying to push here with semi-automatics is already taken place there. A standard AR-10 with 30 rounds would make your job so much easier. But regardless, your right to own something should not be determined by your *need* to own something. Thanks for another great video. What an effort just not to violate YT rules... Already since a while I wanted to attract your attention to some tools that might come handy and helpful for you: - sling for your rifles - small, cheap monocular 8x20 that fits in every pocket, even into the one of your high viz clothes. A huge help detecting camels in the bush. - stick/telescope stick/monopod/shooting stick/tripod that allows you for more precise shots ant saves you cartridges. You might consider a bipod too for shooting over the hood. - 1-6x scope on your new pump action so you have a bit more help reaching out compared to the red dot - short (as possible) double rifle (20 ga or .410?) for your finishing shots because you're not allowed a sidearm. Even birdshot will do the job under 10m and its way cheaper than the 308. - today you mentioned the pica rail on your gun. There are rubber covers for the unused space that might serve you well. Keep on going with your great management and awesome videos!

Hi Jack Jasmine and Jack’s dad I am a 73 year old woman born and bred in Australia I lived in the city but I had family living out in country areas Hay for one which is south west of Sydney. I still have family living in country areas and there is a lot of problems with wild boars camels and other animals not native to Australia I have to be with, These days we have people specially young people or people from overseas that are quite naive to what it’s like out in the bush and why you are doing what you are doing , they don’t do their homework and the damage that these animals are doing to our land. Then they complain to politicians and politicians put restrictions on people like yourself and your family. So my heart goes out to you for trying to run at cuddle farm so people can have food on their tables or even to feed animals. These people don’t understand and don’t do their homework. Good luck.RJA

Greetings from Nebraska, U.S.A.! As a firearms enthusiast, it's very interesting to see the products of the regulations put forth by your government. How does the MPR compare to the AIA? I'd be interested to see a review/comparison video now that you've had a bit of trigger time with it. Seeing what tools you've been relegated to by your government saddens me. What you need is a Ruger SFAR. It's basically an AR-10 shrunken to the size of an AR-15, with a lot of parts compatibility. Semi-auto, .308, heavy barrel, substantial muzzle brake, adjustable gas system, picatinny and M-Lok on the handguard, and it accepts AR-10/SR25 pattern magazines. The 16-inch (406mm) barrel version weighs just under 3.1 kilos naked, all for around $1300 US, or just under $1950 Australian. If I could send you mine, I would. You clearly need it more than I do. Here's to hoping your lawmakers see the necessity of such tools in your line of work and make the changes needed to make them accessible. To you and yours, I raise a glass. 🍺

Yep matey, difference here in AUS is the gun ownership is a privilege not a right…. And highly regulated at that.. Am in farm country Victoria and we have a real problem with feral cats, dogs, foxes, rabbits, pigs and deer. Every farmer I know has a .22, a .308 and/or a .223 to do feral cleanup. But… the regulation is strict on assault / semi- auto rifles managed by the Firearms Act of 1996 when the last big mass shooting event happened in Port Arthur TAS. Handguns are nearly non existent as Victoria Police has very strict guidelines on handgun ownership. But then… our death rate from firearms (excluding suicide) is .88 per 100,000 (mostly gang related ) compared to the US at 10.6 per 100,000 people. So there is a pretty amazing statistic. Having said all that… I have a Sako S20 Hunter in .308 for deer and pig shooting. I DO AGREE, that the guys who cull professionally would benefit from a better arm than the pump.

And heard a new one in Europe, at least new to me, the Chinese Mitten Crab. I was also told once that the earth worm is an invasive in North America. It's changing forest undergrowth so vegetation evolved to heavy leaf cover doesn't have that leaf cover anymore. Lots and lots of invasives. If we want natives to have a chance, it'll be a LOT of work to restore balance, and culling camels is just one needed activity. Still 130 camels before 8:00 AM shows how big the problem is.

That it may unloaded be Matters not the least to me. When a hedge or fence you cross Though of time it cause a loss From your gun the cartridge take For the greater safety’s sake. If twixt you and neighbouring gun Bird shall fly or beast may run Let this maxim ere be thine “Follow not across the line.” Stops and beaters oft unseen Lurk behind some leafy screen. Calm and steady always be “Never shoot where you can’t see.” You may kill or you may miss But at all times think this: “All the pheasants ever bred Won’t repay for one man dead.” Keep your place and silent be; Game can hear, and game can see; Don’t be greedy, better spared Is a pheasant, than one shared.

A cheap little piece of kit you might want to look at getting are open chamber indicators. it's just a piece of plastic rod with an elbow and a flag at the end. The long end goes into the breech and you close the bolt on it, with the flag sticking out to the side. Easy for anyone to tell the gun isn't loaded. You can use pipe cleaners for the same effect, just twist them onto themselves so the bolt doesn't accidently snip the flag end off.

Keep up the great work. It’s a shame that the W.A govt has their head in the sand about the requirements for stations and farmers needs for firearms. I remember about 12 years ago you could buy camel meat over here in QLD as you said shame your not allowed to harvest to meat commercially

How many acres do you guys have ? And how many Camels do you approximately think you have ? Just on top of everything you have to deal with this problem is just another struggle and expense and a strain on your already stretched time. I’ve been out to herbertvale and saw first hand how these cattle stations are run and it certainly is more than the average person could imagine it was an eye opener for myself. Hope you guys get on top of the problem in the near future

Really insane that no semi autos allowed. One would think that somebody with a modicum of IQ would figure that you are not hunting with a semi auto but using a tool that is efficient for the job. A 20,30 or 50 round mag. would make your job so much easier. cheers guys, you are legend.

Great video, running or fast walking for a mile whilst shooting and doing breath control when shooting is not as easy as people think. Great to see your new rifle not malfunctioning under what is a lot of stress, temp, number of rounds. Sad they cannot be used for meat, but I get it , massive country. Would be a big undertaking to muster camels and probably not financially viable for dog meat.

This is my first time watching your channel, very glad to have found it! Like others here from the USA, it seems that your govt is making your job even harder than it already is… we deal with lots of feral hogs in my area, so far our best method has been trapping with large area /walk in traps. At times we’ve been able to capture 50 to 60 hogs per night. Is trapping an option for your operation? We do bait and use thermal sighted/suppressed rifles when we can, but the number of targets is seemingly always increasing. Best of luck sir, love your channel!

Kiwi here - you did well with the pumpy. A semi-auto would've been a lot easier. Over here since they're banned semi-autos the wallabies have reached plague numbers and their range has spread through out the central South Island - and have basically become a night time road hazard - farmers are starting to pull the hair out over the situation. I did some pest destruction in NSW back in the day- friends did the donks - in similiar country side but with a LOT less of those rocks - yep Aussie is a big country ! You guys allowed to shoot from the plane? Take care and enjoy your vids.
@johnmead8437

The wallaby situation has nothing to do with the (poor) firearms legislation changes. More to do with Guiding and Khunters spreading pests, the distribution maps show the evidence. Many farmers don't help the situation, but the fact places with open access (DoC permit areas) have pests like deer over-running them demonstrates the ineffectiveness of rec hunters. for pest control. The tahr situation shows how they can be seriously obstructive, as well as how badly Doc has managed them, both the species and DoC control operations.
@Jutte777
@Jutte777 3 місяці тому
The poor firearms legislation is but one of the more recent and obvious cause and effect problems that has exacerbated the wallaby situation. Guided hunts do not exert excessive pressure necessary to cause the wallaby numbers to spread - if anything guided hunts ( + Farmers quick buck syndrome ) tend to discourage private hunters - many hunters have been denied access to many farms because of this 'quick buck syndrome' - this has also caused an increase of fallow deer in the same area. This leads to Guides/Farmers "husbanding" the wallaby numbers - which in turn causes the population to increase- then the wallabies move out due to competing numbers. The distribution maps only show the distribution of the numbers - not the actual cause of the animal movement. So indirectly you can indeed say Guided hunts are the causation factor -but not to their hunting pressure. Many old timers said the removal of the Wallaby Board was going to cause such a wallaby population problem. The numbers back then were held in check by private hunters. The relatively low population density being held in check by constant hunting pressure. The wallaby range back then was roughly a triangle that went from Kurow, Waimate to Burkes Pass - with none being seen in the MacKenzie Basin proper - also held in check by the Waitaki River. With the arrival of the semi-auto even bigger numbers were being achieved. However as I see it the closing of hunting blocks to the average hunter - plus the removal of the semi-auto as an effective control tool - has increased the problems we have today. Tourists are crashing into wallabies just down from the Benmore Dam - wallabies have been seen in Bannockburn - they are also pass the Waitaki River now. There has always been the rat bags that have tried to introduce the wallabies around the South Island - Arthurs Pass and the Halswell Quarry are but two examples - however those type of people are very few in number. As for the past effectiveness of private hunters - I am only talking about the wallaby - and only to that what pertains to the Kurow, Waimate, Burke Pass triangle. Deer and Thar are another can of worms entirely. However the situation has changed and Wallaby range is now well out of the 'triangle' and has increased dramatically. A combination of greed, increased population density, removal of an efficient tool plus other factors came together to create a perfect storm. I have heard of farmers now using helicopters with thermal vision equipment to endeavour some sort of wallaby control. Kind of ironic that one reasons the Wallaby Board was dropped was....cost...
