Simply amazing! Few years ago I've bought the XLE V6 2001 model. Sometimes I comment to my friends that it is the best car I've purchased in my life and the cheapest one too!. I have found a specimen that has been used for almost twelve years and hit only 80.000 kilometers. The last owner was an friendly old man that was a kind of collector, I may say, and was a lucky owner of three old Camrys. Since then, I've travelled across my country, and the biggest trip reached almost 6000 km of a delicious driving experience. Today, with 102.000 Kilometers, and married whit me, my car maintain the same performance in a really good shape. Here, this car is a rarity, and spare parts is quite difficult to find and expensive to buy. Despite these facts, my old Camry is the beloved "grandfather" of my garage!

I just bought 1997 XLE V-6, I bought it because I have 10 cars that are too nice to leave anywhere when I go downtown Seattle, so I called this my leave it car when I first got it. Then I grew to love it. Factory remote key fobs, moonroof, Cruise, ABS, Traction control, Tach, Factory mags,Heated mirrors, tan leather, Gunsmoke color exterior, I will be turning 300,000 miles shortly and the oil is still clean and hasn't gone down the dipstick a hair between oil changes. It shifts smoothly without problems and doesn't leak a drop of anything from anywhere. Air conditioning blows freezing cold and the factory AMFM cassette CD changer still sounds great. The factory original struts were dead tired.. Having been in the car business 40 years I knew Gabriel struts from Summit were the only way to go and now it's like a sports car. Great power ,handles incredibly and rides like a dream No, it isn't for sale. P.s. Having been in the Northwest its entire life, and it doesn't have rust anywhere, if you get one, try to get one as this, (no accidents).

That car is a gem! Low miles and being an XLE is a plus. That engine and the 2.2L were so reliable. My '99 has the 2.2L, but my '01 Avalon had the 3.0L with 260k miles and ran and smooth as new. Nice to see that Toyota finally added the outside temp display on the '00 XLE, I think that was the first year for it on Camry. Corolla had it as early as 1998 on the LE trim. My Camry has 277k and totally squeak and rattle free. These cars are tanks. I love these older Toyotas.

I missed it a lot...had so many awesome long trips on that thing, learned how to drive on it. I own a 2000 LE with over 300k. runs like new, I do wish the mirrors folded in. It has leather, alloy wheels, and a sunroof which is rare to find , especially in black paint with grey int. keyless entry also. I love the fact it has no ext antenna sticking up from the trunk. They designed it into the rear glass which makes going through the carwash much easier...

As I'm typing this, I bought a 2000 Toyota Camry (Automatic) for my first car about 20 minutes ago. All I've done is drive it to wendys to get food, but I love it so much already. It has an oil leak which I'm fixing on the next payday, and otherwise, it's in perfect condition. No exterior issues, no interior issues. 257K Kilometers on the motor, and I plan on putting so many more on that odometer.

I had a 2000 Toyota Camry LXE with 305,000 miles...two weeks ago the transmission totally went out...not worth replacing. 2 days ago I got a 2000 Toyota Camry XLE v6! It has 175,000 but that is the sweet spot for a Camry! Love it!

Borrowed this car off an uncle till I find my new car - it has over 233,000 miles on it but drives like an absolute dream. Literally the only 'problem' is that it leaks power steering fluid... a problem that could probably be repaired with a new hose and a bit of TLC. However, not my car not my problem... but I'm seriously considering buying it off him. An absolutely legendary vehicle and still has quite a bit of poke at the traffic lights!

This generation Camry (and Avalon - on the Australian market) had one big key difference when it comes to performance, the 1MZ-FE if you run it on premium will alter timing to compensate for the higher octane (more power/torque), but where Australian Camry's of this era trumphed American spec ones were the biggest killer of performance, their final drive ratio. For the US market it was a 3.62, where as Australia got a more performance oriented 3.93 final drive, significantly improved off the line pull & overall performance, whilst returning better fuel economy funny enough. We had the Avalon Mark 1, 2 & 3 from 1999 - 2005 And XV20 Camry from 1997 - 2002 Both had the same A541E 4sp "adaptive" automatic. But the Avalon was a much improved evolution of the 1st gen US Avalon Structurally they couldn't be anymore different, tech & safety were higher, etc. The 1MZ-FE is a brilliant engine, later ones weren't plagued by "sludge" when the main issue was due to owners neglect of not using high quality full synthetic oil, you DO NOT use a semi synthetic, synthetic blend, etc oil in these 1MZ's Only a proper full synthetic. Our version also had tweaked ACIS system along with producing more power. But a few things we missed out on which was stupid, also the model lineup was completely different in terms of spec.

I've had my 98 model V6 since getting my licence and always trusted the old man's mechanic mate to do the service. Took me a long time to realise they were doing the bare minimum and wish I'd known about the full synthetic earlier as they were just changing it at 10k with the crappiest bulk dino stuff no doubt. Intake and under the valve covers were pretty sad looking but hopefully I've turned it around before it did too much damage.
