As an African in Africa ,this makes me skeptical. I hope that as they want to help us with AI they will also help with providing water and electricity to these schools before bringing in AI and there is a huge shortage of medication in most hospitals aswell, which makes the AI effort futile if not dealt with.

I honestly really appreciate Arun's channel. It's such a great mixture between entertaining content as well as interviews like this one that are so informative, both in content as well as the way it's produced. Very nicely done.

This interview could've been strictly a PR piece for the companies developing AI or focused on the common AI worries, but you actually talked about some deep and complex problems and asked Bill Gates about them. You're doing a great job and you are a better interviewer than any mainstream journalist I know. I know your channel is already huge but I hope it keeps getting bigger, because people deserve to get content of this quality and depth.

I literally had the idea of a chatbot talking to patients about their diseases and am in the final stages of developing the chatbot. I thought it was just a dumb project and was deciding to just put it on my resume and forget about it. i didn't think bill gates was thinking the same thing😂. Btw I'm in Nigeria so i definitely see why it is needed I'm still going to finish up the project. And now I'm going to apply for an internship at Microsoft because it seems we have the same ideals. Fantastic video Arun! To the concerns you already raised, i would also like to add the fact that since AI can do so many things, the threat of it being used maliciously is incredibly high right now. The most noteworthy and terrifying example is it's use in last election on Slovakia. AI is incredibly hard to control and allows misinformation on a scale never seen before. I'm just afraid that we accidentally opened a pandora's box.

My fear on Ai would be that one day it would come for grocery shopping too with all my sensitive info. It could be helpful or manipulative depending on the human intentions behind it.

I give it up to you for coming so far. Its not so easy and probably came with whole lot of challenges but you still stuck through. Hats Off!

A good video that works as an overview of the Gate's AI initiative in Africa. I just wish he had pushed a little more on how they'll make it work . . . For example, Privacy - Not sure how that'll be implemented if the AI is accessed through cellular networks, as the data won't be stored on local devices. It would be also great to know the measures that'll be taken to prevent sale/ monetization of data collected. Bias - As there will be large variations in data, even across Africa, the data collected will have to be highly localized and specific. More than that, in developing countries, the collection of data itself could pose a challenge due to literacy and lack of manpower. Even if the AI is ready, the datasets that it needs to crunch on might not be Bias 2 - In education, there could be pre existing biases in the syllabus/ system that could be carried over to the AI. For example, there could be missing chapters on history (as it is often the victor's narrative) which a child learning through AI will also not see. Human Error - In case of medical diagnosis which a patients can directly avail from the AI, the counter checking measure in the form of Doctor verifying the diagnosis might be skipped. The patients might directly avail medicine from pharmacy or self medicate. This might lead to larger issue than the current ones.

I think providing AI to Africans are a great thing since now they can access information that they cannot do before. However there should be policies and regulations to regulate on how AI must only be used to help students understand and learning instead of cheating on tests.
