It might be a late answer but as far as I know it's because guns were needed in the wild. Against bears and for hunting etc. so they didn't made a law against big guns but small handguns are easy to conceal and therefor dangerous to the public because you can't see if the other person has a weapon. So they banned them. And they just didn't think flamethrowers would be used as a weapon I guess

Great build and video! The death star touch was real nice. I thought about the same sort of build but realised that flare guns need a full firearms licence in the UK, so it was off the cards for me. I still may do something like this, but I will have to dial my version down a notch 😂
