I could not believe it myself but I stumbled upon this old Harley Davidson Sportster that has a strange connection with my past, but the big question is Can I get this old Barn Find Harley to run again and get me home?

@@tomparth3398 Talking about odometers I was in Vantage Washington and being in a 1%er club at the time I must have been the least intimidating because a guy filling up his Dyna said "Hey I have to show someone this"..... He took me to his bike and the Odometer said 400,000 exactly. I asked "Have you ever rebuilt the motor"? He said, "NO, just rode it". He put his helmet on and rode away after taking a picture of the odometer.

So glad you are on your own!! Way better to watch! Tip: Pour a bit of oil in each spark plug hole before you turn it over the first time. You might have scored the piston walls. Also if all the oil is in the crankcase you should have drained some out before turning it over to not overpressurize the oil pump.

Brings me back to a year ago when I bought my first bike at age 17, and 2001 Harley Sportster 883. Little did I know that it had "cruise control", aka the throttle return cable was completely broken. Had a lot of fun memories working on that bike, and some not so good ones of lowsiding it. But I'm grateful because it has brought me to where I am today.

I ended up watching it in its entirety, and I found myself grinning when you got the bike running! SO glad you were able to find and buy your dad's bike! If you don't mind my suggestion, what I would do now is restore it to how it looked when your dad owned it, or as close to it as you can get. Please keep us updated on your progress!

Craig, glad to see your channel after bikes and beards. I loved this video because the bike was your dad's & partly because about 2 1/2 years ago I bought a 1992 Sportster 883 that supposedly sat under a tarp in a backyard for eight years! I paid $2000.00 for it (with 2 new tires) and rode it home and have working on it since and have done quite a bit to it. I have a huge benefit of having an experienced biker/Harley builder right next to my apartment who's been very willing to help me with knowledge and even parts! Whenever I start doing something he usually shows up & helps! I too would like to see more Harley content.

Glad you got your own channel! Just speaking for myself I like watching channel that go out and find old forgotten cars and bikes in the weeds and storage buildings and bring them back to life putting them back on the road. I understand you can't save them all but if each one of us would save just one old classic just think how much cool stuff would be cruising the streets. Cheers friend

Dang, we'll done. Now I'm inspired to get my old 1978 ts185 running. Been on the bench for 15yrs... i did a full engine rebuild, but stopped at the oil injection pump hook up and cables for some reason...etc.
