One reason the hall effect sensors didn't work could be that the controller takes an active HIGH signal instead of an active LOW signal. 2 out of the 3 led's lit up on your second test, but it may be expecting them to be inverted. It may be looking for a single high signal coming from the hall sensor that is interacting with the magnetic field, and when it sees that there are 2, just switching to sensorless mode. Try inverting the signals with an inverter like the 74hc04.

@bleeedthebrakes
@bleeedthebrakes 2 роки тому
@Lassi Kinnunen 81 He only installed 3 sensors, which is correct The other issue I've observed is that he gave the whole system a fairly small final drive ratio, while this controller is mainly target towards direct-drive hub type motors. Those motors are commonly seen in light electric bikes, and I'd imagine if he raise the final drive ratio to about double direct drive rates, the go cart can start rolling by itself with no problem.

Have you tried turning it off and on again? This is a joke in IT support, but it's also the most common advice. Because it works 90% of the time. Bloody programmers can't write software without memory leaks, or that gives back resources the computer when it's finished using them. So then when another program, or the same one later on, need these resources, they're not there. If it's RAM they've consumed and lost track of (a memory leak), eventually the system will run out of free RAM and start swapping out to the hard drive, causing thrashing and slowing things riiiight down. So we'd ask you to save your work, if you can, then shutdown and restart. On restart the RAM allocation list is nice and free again, resources are fresh and unallocated, so programs can ask for resources and expect to get them. Everything runs nicely! Except there's still that leak...! The solution ultimately is for the company to fix their damn software and for users to update to that version. But in that time there'll be a _different_ bug in that, or some other, bit of software.
@NORMIES_GET_OUT

Software devs are the bane of my existence. Last timeI had an issue I sent 140 GBs of data to one of our software engineers to back up my claims because a control program they had us upgrade in the field had a huge memory leak and would corrupt it's own config files. His reply was, "Huh, well it didn't do that in our field trials."

I have a lot of experience with these weird Chinese controllers and brushless motors. You need to run the self learn function. One of the pins on the controller harness will activate a self learn function where it free spins itself around and learns the positioning of the hall sensors. Doing the 36 combinations isn't necessary if you run the self learn. Also the BMS in your batteries is what's cutting it out. The controllers don't usually care.

I suspect the controller is cutting out because it is not a 36 volt controller (yes what he has is claimed to be a “40 volt” battery, but every one that isn’t marketing considers 10s to be 36 volt). The resting voltage is high enough that it doesn’t fully trip the controllers low voltage function but as soon as the battery sags the controller cuts out. It’s likely a 48v 1500w controller. It’s actually not common to find a 36v 1500w Chinese controller.

The magic sensorless rotor sensing thing is called Back-EMF. It uses the residual current from the phase winding that is idling (one of the three always is), to figure out where the rotor is.

you only know rotor position within one electrical cycle (phase). you still don't know the exact position of the rotor itself as there are multiple electrical cycles per revolution. also, the "idling" phase statement is only correct for block-commutated/six-step drives. Sinewave and FOC drive all 3 phases all of the time.
@djollieuk
@djollieuk 2 роки тому
In Permanent Magnet Synchronous motor (PMSM) drives, shaft position information is required for the proper control of the machine. In the PMSM drive the torque ripple generated by the machine has various harmonic content. The major torque ripple generated in a three phase machine is due to the interaction of 5th, 7th , 11th and 13th harmonics in the back emf with the phase current. These induced voltage harmonics are responsible for the 6th and 12th order (electrical) ripple in the torque. In practical applications we tend to see various other harmonic orders in the torque.

I've built two powered cars for my grandchildren using battery powered drill motors with the chuck running on one of the rear wheels. I also added speed controllers for the motors to limit the top speed whilst the kids were getting used to them. One's a Bentley and the other's a Gulf Racing Aston Martin. They are currently in for "servicing" but your video has inspired me to get them ship shape and running again. Most of the time your explanations go WAY over my head but your video is compulsive viewing. Thank you.
