Jeep has a strong brand and illustrious history dating back to World War II, making it one of the strongest brands in the automotive world. It has a military pedigree that dates back to World War II and for generations it has sustained its rugged, classic American image. It is also Fiat Chrysler’s top-selling brand, and it inspires a rare sort of cult-like devotion other automakers would kill for. But it needs to stay ahead of an increasingly competitive market.
Jeep specializes in sport utility vehicles like the Wrangler - it does not make a single sedan or sports coupe. That has left it extraordinarily well-positioned for the recent boom in SUVs. However, the secret is out, and automakers everywhere are ramping up their own SUV and pickup inventories, and some are aiming their own products squarely at segments Jeep has long dominated.
Jeep is answering with a slew of new innovations and new products to preserve its strong position and envied reputation. Industry insiders say Jeep can no longer expect that its legendary name and distinctive styling will keep buyers coming back.

Toyotas no longer have a fully boxed frame because they got unreasonably sued for rusting frames on very old vehicles. Instead of just having a legal statement about the longevity of the frame, they decided to compromise the vehicle with a C channel frame.

If only Toyota sold the Land Cruiser 70 series in the US, the wrangler would have some real competition.
@michaelm1589
@michaelm1589 3 роки тому
They are almost indestructible. However, it is a very old platform and Toyota left some compromises in the design when they widened the front and put the V8 diesel in 13 years ago (low alternator, narrower rear tracks, old 5 speed manual and no auto option). The LC70 is basically a piece of industrial and farming equipment that has been made road legal. Here in Australia people spend big money fixing some of these issues to make them more suitable for off road and towing after already spending AUD $70k+ buying one new. Part of the reason is that the LC70 is largely a developing market product so they spend the bare minimum to keep it viable for sale in Australia and NZ, the only two fully developed countries that it sells. I think with the LC300 likely not going to the US market Toyota may decide to reintroduce the LC brand in the US with an all new hardcore offroad model after seeing the success of Jeep, Bronco and Defender.

I got a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee when I turned 16 and loved it (hand me down from my dad to my sisters to me). Got T-boned and decided to get a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport to replace it. I definitely missed my Jeep but I actually ended up really liking the Explorer. In 2018, the transmission started dying and the only brand I wanted to look at was Jeep because I loved my Grand Cherokee so much. I decided to buy a 2014 Cherokee and it has been really great. Perfect size, drives well in all conditions, nice interior, pretty quick, etc. Like I said, my dad and sisters also used that Jeep Grand Cherokee before me and when my sister wad able to, she bought a 2018 Wrangler and my dad bought at 2013 Wrangler. All of us loved that Grand Cherokee so much that we went back to Jeep all these years later lol

My father had a 1983 CJ-7 Jeep that he bought it used in early 90’s. He had it till in 2002. He got a 2002 TJ Jeep. I did drove his newer one a few times. Even my mother drove it a few times on the 2nd one. My father used the 2nd Jeep for plowing snow in the driveway or even his neighbor’s driveway,too. They had it for a long time. In 2017 my mother sold it to a friend towards my father with the plow. My mother gave them a good price of it. It didn’t have any rust on it. It was a good 3rd vehicle for my parents a number of years. My sister drove the 1st Jeep for one summer. The 2nd summer she had a little problems with it the following summer. My sister ended up with a 1991 Ford Escort to drive around in. My father still drive the older Jeep during the summers in early 90’s. They have 2 other cars to drive back in the early 90’s. When they retired they gotten a 1993 Ford Explorer from trading their 2 vehicles. My mother was driving my sister’s car during the fall and part of the winter months. For a little bit over a year in the mid 90’s my mother gotten a 1995 Ford Escort station wagon about 3 years. My father trade that car on a 1997 Ford F-150 truck for him to drive. My mother had the 1998 Ford Explorer as her car to drive around in. My father traded the truck on the 2002 Jeep TJ. That Jeep did run for awhile in 2016. It had a couple flat tires and it didn’t work for awhile. My father had the Jeep fixed during the summer of 2016. It did sat in the garage till I drove it on New Year’s Day in 2017. I only had it that day towards the following day. I was driving my father’s 2008 Ford Expedition just shortly after his death. I got used to driving it for about 3 months. That vehicle was liked a tank for me. I even did parallel parked it once. I did an awesome job in it. I gave a lot of space for this one mini van to backed out of.

We have a Wrangler. It feels dangerous - ready to roll if I have to maneuver to avoid an accident. I've had to hit the brakes for wildlife and the wheels lock and it skids to a stop. None of my other SUVs had that issue. That combined with the lack of side airbags makes me pretty nervous. Not sure how long we're going to keep it. Tons of fun once you get to the offroad locations! Getting there on long highway and freeway drives though - like I said, makes me nervous.

@ak18singh
@ak18singh 3 роки тому
Offcourse it being specifically build for off roading it will have higher road ground clearance which makes it more vulnerable to roll overs on sharp turns, this problem is somewhat common with most of the SUVs but then again most of the SUV don't showoff themselves as an extreme off-roading machine I myself not a fan of SUVs in general as I don't find them "practical" in day to day life, I would rather go for trekking, as off roading isn't my cup of tea Though I love sedans and I reckon u might have driven a lot of sedans well ,that might be why u might feel things a bit off when u drive ur jeep , sedans grips its whole body to the ground as it moves with excellent control and for me that feeling so good

Without watching the video, I don't think I'd really put jeeps in the same class as general SUV's. When I think of a Jeep, I think of offroading. Most SUV's can do that too, but they're not built specifically for that purpose. A regular SUV is great for transporting large luggage (not towing) or the rows of seats are great if you have children. I know I appreciated having two rows of seats for more space when my family got a van, as I have two brothers and nobody likes sitting in the middle seat like when in a car.

My issue with Jeep is the costs. In my area, loaded rubicon gladiators are close to 70 grand with dealer markup. Yes, I appreciate the market thinking of getting whatever you can and obviously people are paying those prices. I just don't see me paying that kind of money for mediocre safety and reliability. I have a friend that has a 9 month old Rubicon Wrangler and she's had a lot of problems for a vehicle for less than 10,000 miles-especially electrical with the security system shutting down the vehicle while in motion. It was in the shop for 2 weeks to have that fixed. I think the Bronco will give Jeep a run for it's money and competition is a good thing.

I have a 2005 grand Cherokee and whenever I try get repairs done I'm told not all parts are available. If you want to know how to build a car brand (which apparently you need help with) keep your old models running. Knowing there will be legacy support for my 4x4 means I can trust the brand, be confident of resale value and also provide a revenue stream in parts. Right now Jeep is trying to play the rapid release game. This dilutes the jeep brand and makes older models obsolete. Look up Simon Sinek's talk about playing the infinite game.

Truth is - Heritage gets you only so far. New generations don't give a crap about heritage, or, if anything, prefer brands that do not have any heritage whatsoever. To us, Heritage is just a cool word to say "probably overpriced"... because we know newer companies need to deliver either a higher quality or lower pricing to compete with older ones. So, we prefer the cheaper/better option.

Contrary to popular belief - Jeep Wranglers are actually very reliable on road because they are overbuilt for light offroading. That being said, once you start taking them offroad things are going to break - but this is going to happen with all vehicles. Because most people take them off road, they get this reputation of being unreliable. Even so, everyone loves their Jeeps regardless ❤️ I have a Jeep and a Honda and I abslotely adore both of them for what they do well. I can't wait for the plug in hybrid wrangler to eventually get a 40-50 miles charge on their battery so that can be first car I ever buy brand new :D
@errhka
@errhka 3 роки тому
@@youtube.com-rh problems with Jeeps on road are mainly related to electrical gremlins (if they exist in the first place - and most don't have them). Jeep has been using the 4.0l and 3.6l pentastar for years and they are dead dog reliable engines along with solid powertrains. The 3.8l was a dud but that was only a couple model years. The suspension is overbuilt so if you are having trouble with that on road you are neglecting your tires. When you take Toyotas off road they break just as often as Jeeps do - just in different areas. Far more likely catastrophic failures with IFS and the skinny tie rods they have than stock Jeeps with solid axles.
@chrismayher617
@chrismayher617 3 роки тому
Errhka Thats just not accurate at all speaking from personal experience.Ive never had any engine problems in my jeeps and they’ve never left the road but every one I’ve had has had transmission failures as well as what I’d call minor electrical problems.Ive had two wranglers to this point and 1 Grand Cherokee.None of my Jeeps transmissions lasted past 90k miles.Im someone who takes pristine care and maintenance of their vehicles.Ive got a 2010 Trailteams Fj Cruiser with 400k miles and off-roading at least once every month.Nothing but regular oil and transmission changes rear diff fluid changes.Spark plugs every 100k miles.2017 RAV4 with 280k miles.Proofs in the pudding jeeps been hot garbage ever since Fiat took over and that’s just a fact.Too many friends with similar stories of their jeeps.They used to be sooo reliable it’s a shame what they’ve done
@errhka
@errhka 3 роки тому
@@chrismayher617 I've got Hondas and Lexus's with 300k miles too - I'm not talking about other vehicles that stay on the road most of their life. Taking your 400k mile FJ out once a month doesn't really mean anything unless you are taking said vehicles on the same trails the Jeeps are going on. I'm not talking about Toyotas in general (we all know they are reliable on road), just about ones that go on hard core trails like Jeeps do. If you haven't broken anything on your FJ for 400k miles you haven't offroaded it hard enough. Every single one I know has snapped tie rod ends, front suspension components, etc. when they go wheeling on jeep trails (which Jeeps also break components on). The new Jeep Wranglers have no input from fiat because they are made in North America with US engineers. The fiat thing is just something people like to throw out to justify 'the drop in quality' when in reality these newer Jeeps are amazing compared to the older ones (especially JKs) that had significant issues. The only fiat thing that really exists in jeep is that little jeep renegade which is just a rebadged fiat panda cross
